If you wish to use CSS to do the same, look here:

[Most unfortunate that IE has not caught up to the modern world and that still so many users use an outdated browser like IE]

This is one of my favorite site to learn how to use CSS to separate presentation from content.

Zunaid, great site, virtual Bangladesh that is. I was moved by the genocide museum. It really brings it home seeing the pictures upon pictures. I'm glad I clicked on it. It reminds me of the German pictures in World War II. I will bring it up to class when we study Bangladesh in 1971 in my India course. We are doing India, Pakistan first. Lots of info, set up really well and very clear. I like it a lot.

I know doc do not like IE, but I don't understand why though. My personal experience trying to develop webpages is that that its easier to create a page that looks good in IE than firefox. also, have you ever tried to read prothom-alo or bangladesher khela in firefox? what are the specific reason you don't like IE?

Prothom-Alo and BDkhela uses MS specific webfont. Its not unicode, thats why no browser other than IE will work with those sites.

I don't like IE either. IE is way behind in proper support CSS, has numerous security holes (patched and repatched and on and on...), can't get version upgrade from MS (gotta buy new OS thas coming up then you get new IE), can't do tabbed browsing, and list goes on.... (just do a google about IE security and other issues)

I am in firefox

It's all about standards. Not only is IE not been updated in ages, it is also not very standards compliant. Worse is MicroSoft's propensity for inventing proprietary tags.

really? lol...i've always thought that IE was the bad boy when it came to developing web pages....I've always had CSS issues with IE, whereas everything seemed right on mozilla

however, it is true that it could go either way, depending upon whether you are using relative or absolute positioning; i personally have had more inconsistencies with IE.

Hey guys, what's the best language to learn to make a decent website, with probably lots of database involved.

I am guessing php and mysql... how long do you think it should take to learn to make a decent site with database involved?

Also what do you use to usually extract info from other websites. Suppose you are extracting info from cricinfo scorecards or whatever.....

So for example, if I stole all the scorecards of BD team from cricinfo and then did a query something like...

Show only 50 and above runs scored or show only the scores from one particular month from 2001-2005 etc etc...

those are possible via mysql right?

or is there something better?

Thanks in advance whoever replied, I can search and find the answer and spend hours after hours but why do that when you can just ask somebody who knows

I don't think there is api for external queries into cricinfo database.

mySQL can do pretty much everything that any other db can do. With version 5 it has stored procedures. So there's no limitation on how 'decent' a site you can make with php and mysql

php.net and dev.mysql.com is very good place to start along.

For documentaion needs, functions and everything else, just visit online docs.

http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.1/en/index.html
http://www.php.net/manual/en/

You will find most of your needs answered on these docs.

You know orpheus, learning a programming language is easy, but learning how to program takes time.

PHP is one of the easiest language to learn.

Hey Mahmood bhai, that's a sweet quote.

And I think you are right.... looking at certain programs make sense but if someone gave me a blank screen, I wouldn't know what to do.

I guess we have to steal other people work from the internet and edit it to our liking

Hey, I was googling my site and I stumbled to this. I would be happy to give you the source code. If you need more information about a certain part, feel free to ask me. =]
