BDFlag West Indies; next target for Bangladesh

When we were no 10 cricket team, our target was Zimbabwe. Being no 9, we should now target West Indies. That is how we can get the confidence to beat all the teams in the world often. Do you agree?

Nope!! Our next target is Australia in test and SA in ODIs. They are holding our rightful place. That can only be the target for the Tigers. Now in order to do that we have improve daily and faster than others. The rest will fall in place in course of time.

If you don't shoot for the #1 the progression will be slow, complacent will set in. Be it in business, sports. Then once you be there you play against the history. Believe me the gap is not that huge as the score sheets suggest. Only a few mental adjustments can take us where we want to be. The 80% talent is there. Need two more strike bowlers we are set.

Examples: Ali, Pele, Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, Federer, Liverpool, Brazil, Pakistani Hockey team, Jahangir-Jansher, Edwin Moses, WI Cricket team (Lloyd's and Richards), Australian Cricket team (Waugh's and Ponting's) etc. Future Examples: Bangladesh Cricket team (Shakib's).

Correct and the concept is not flawed.

Only dreams can gear someone to achieve what they want. At least that allows that person to perform at his best of his ability. Once a person is satisfied, his striving for perfection gets a jolt. Beating teams like WI and celebrating like we are #1 would be a false notion. One can never be satisfied until he reaches the #1 position. Now if one accepts we are no good and can't compete with the best of them then I have nothing to argue.

The goals should always be to get the #1 spot and dominate. If we can get there or not that is a different story.

Being one of the top 8 ranking team is pretty important IMO. Because we're ranked no.9, we are not playing in the Champions Trophy tournament. And being a top 8 team and playing like one ensures that you get extra games in tournaments and the World Cup.

So we should try to dislodge West Indies and be the definitive no. 8 team in the world.

This is, in general form, huge problem in Bangladeshi fans. We want it all, no touch to reality. And a random win raises our expectation to the top.

This creates a huge pressure on the team, the players. It is not just us here, all people they know, talk to, express the unrealistic expectation, thus the pressure becomes unbearable, and they fold.

If we can become no. 8 in the next one year, that would be a delightfull acheivement.

Spot on. Too much of unrealistic talk and false dreams/hopes will hurt us. Lets be pragmatic and take one step at a time.

Lets win a test match first against any of the top 8 , to say our next target is Australia is too much of exaggeration .

Egg selling is a business too and it matters how the egg seller thinks and where he wants to reach. Therefore, He has to set his goal. You all probably know who James Cash Penny is? What was he? He started from a dry food store and by the time he died he already had JcPenny Company Inc established. Today, JcPenny Company Inc is considered as one of the largest department store in US and operates more than 1,000 stores through out US. As for Bangladesh team, they have to set their goal for number one spot. It is not going to be easy but if they work hard and give their full effort then achieving number one spot will be possible.

We dont meet windies for next three years so if you have to move up the ICC odi ranking we gonna have to start beating the other teams.

we shld target west indies after ireland..no doubt bczo west indies jst above us...and we can beat them...they are weaker than all oda test playin nation except us..in odi..in our country..we will inshallah win 1 odi...its nt so easy bt easier compared to oda test playin nation...we shld slowly progress frm beating weaker team to d strgest teams...dats like winning will make a habit n raise confidence for a difficult game n

We have surpassed Zim for the time being, but that doesnt mean they arent getting together a formidable team, they still have a few decent players and if the mugabe regime ends soon (we all hope it does) then Zim cricket will in turn probably have less corruption and their team would be free to pick their best team.

Ireland also have a decent team considering they lost their best player in Ed Joyce to England, consider what would have been for them. We still have to dominate them as well.

We should have kenya covered as far as i am concerned

OK. I liked the discussions till now. I do not know whether anyone noticed or not, Zimbabwe, Pakistan and West Indies are the three test playing teams whose performance descended badly in the last 5 to 6 years. This shows that Bangladesh has a fairly good chance of becoming no.7 by 2012. BD U-19 team proves it too. Quality players coming!

One series at a time please. That way, we'll be better prepared for the resurgent Windies bowling attack. Fidel Edwards, Daren Powell, Jerome Taylor and Jermaine Lawson are all quick and becoming quite a handful for everyone just as quickly.

Have we forgotten Lawson's 6 wickets for 3 runs in Dhaka already ?

LoL.

Add Gayle as a captain, the thread opener must pray that Gayle is rested or having some kind of injury during such series.
