I know what you mean ... You see brother I could have kept on writing for another 100 pages and still would have had more memories to share ... I just thought the article was becoming too long!

Awesome write up, you just took me to those days. My cricket journey started round about the same age that yours started in and it was the 96' world cup. Though being a 7yr old at that time, I only remember parts of it. But that '97 ICC trophy is still alive on my mind. Unfortunately, I didn't used to go out much and so listening to radio or TV sitting with mates wasn't a natural for me still. But thankfully, a elder cousin sister of mine was as interested in cricket as I was. And we had a dodgy radio, which always used to go nuts during my efforts to hearing the cricket commentary. But even that radio started working properly in the final against Kenya. I guess I was too little to realise that we already booked our place in the next WC by beating Scotland in the semis. So I feel i was thinking in the line that we had to be champions to go through or something. So it was even more massive..lol! Remember those lines from, as you said, Zafar Ullah Sharafat, ''bat-e ball-e hoini'', ''shimanar baire'', ''ebong choy'' etc etc. I remember keeping count of the number of sixes we were hitting in that match. I forgot what exactly I did after we had won, but I saw people from our area going out in the street with thala-bashon deg-dekchi etc. Unfortunately, I couldn't join them coz I was home alone. But that particular image of my neighbouring elder bros rallying and screaming their lungs out is just permanently wallpapered in my mind's desktop. Sweet old days!!!! And I wish I had more to write.

Shot that changed the history of BD cricket = Pilot's six in the last over against Kenya.

That was my day 1 of following our cricket. 14 years have passed!

Reread the whole thing. Wonderful and even better second time around. Sharing mine would be a drag cause most of the time it would not have Bangladesh in it. (They weren't good enough in the 70s and 80s; who wants to know that we lost to MCC and Papua New Guinea - and Football ruled supreme.)

When did Pilot hit the six? Didn't find it there. I was revisiting BD during '96 crazy time. You were the people who threw "rong"? Or was it "asdfjkl"? Need to be punished for those crimes with roshgolla and chomchom. I remember there were no white cars in Dhaka the next day. All pink, and other colors. Only the ones didn't go out in the streets were spared.

The victory over Kenya was over the top. I remember of lisening through the car radio.

It wasn't in the original article. But that shot initiated my love for BD cricket. Shehwar's bhai article is truly amazing. I kinda got emotional reading few lines.

I remember hearing Pilot's six in the radio live. The rest of the time, I was imagining the shot and recreating the six in my head. Finally I saw it on TV later. Boy!! That was amazing. And Shanto's run after he scored the last run. The whole BD team ran into the fields with Greenidge and Saber Chowdhury. The stadium erupted and I sat in disbelief at hundreds of miles away in my little room in Mirpur.

I was wearing a white T-shirt that day. By the time I came back home that T-shirt had barely any white spot left.. I still have it along with that small Bangladeshi Flag I wore as Bandana..

Ahh that last over against Kenya - what Bangladeshi Cricket fan will ever forget, more importantly who will forget the aftermath.

All I remember is the rong...and no one, I mean NO ONE being spared.

Such a simpler time...sigh.

If we ever win the world cup, we can have similar celebrations. But I am afraid we will be either dead or too old.
