Default The Mushfiqur Rahim Thread

He is the most underestimated, most underrated, most unsung cricketer......It still puzzles me such a shrewd cricketer still doesn't get respect and admiration from our own Bangladesh cricket fans. Most of his knocks do not get the accolades, even if it deserves a lot more........Here are his stats (unfortunate these numbers arent telling the true story, but being the fighter he is, these would be taken due care of), the player who will recover us out of troubles during the World Cup 2011, just wait & watch!

Mushfique is unfortunately not good enough to play in the national team. Stats are lies; but they are still important, especially when collected over a long period, as is the case with Mushy or Ashraful. He is lucky to replace Pilot and being in the wk duty for so long. If he is playing in the team, he should play purely as a batsman (again, very average and can be dropped) batting at #3 or #4.

Has great potential with the bat, but a terrible keeper.

He is a good fella. Always brings positive vibe in the field with his encouraging non stop bok bokani. He needs to work on Wicket keeping skill though. I strongly believe, we need a specialist Wicket keeping coach. All in all, a good prospect for Bangladesh, he is still a kid, long way to go !

after playing 84 ODIs, he averages less than 24. Sure he has potential to be great, and so did Ashraful.

mushy is an awesome batsman but his keeping skills aren't too bad thb.he did make some great stumpings and take very good catches which go to show that he has the skills but mostly i guess he's either too excited or too nervous and hence makes those fumbles

He isn't improving with Bat over time. He is where he was when he came in.

I really like Mushy. He's got potential to be a very solid batsman at this level. That being said though he's still got some ways to go. Even though he's a great player against spin, he's still got some deficiencies against pace which is the reason why he struggles in non subcontinental grounds. He's also like all our other batsmen except Tamim and Shakib inconsistent and you can see it in his stats. So in my book he's definitely not a star yet. He has the potential of being a star though.

His keeping is even more inconsistent with his dropped chances. That's something he also needs to fix up before he could be called a star keeper-batsman. He's not bad when he faces up against pace but when he's close to the stumps against spin he's pretty poor. It's probably a technical deficiency that he needs to fix up. He's still a very young guy so he has plenty of time to improve and become a star.

Horrible keeper and an awful batsman, we need to find a better wicket keeper/Batsman. He is a failed cricketer and very over hyped by our audience.

Mushy had the potential to be a tall guy, but unfortunately he remained very short.
Anyhow, he needs to work on his keeping.

He has improved his keeping skills, but he still costs the team at least a wicket in every inning. I have been a long proponent of Mushy as a specialist batsman. Without the keeping duty, he is likely to improve his batting and raise that average. How about Jaharul as our wicketkeeper/batsman?

You mean missed stumping chances? Well, Mushy has been pretty accurate with stumping chances always...at least 80% he has gotten. Lately that stats would increased to something like 90%. I have seen him probably miss 2 lately while he has indeed gotten all the rest.

Under-rated? Not so much because he is much under-achieved. Ashraful too. He is too under-achieved, but since we are talking about Mushy here, I would definitely like to see him man-up a little more and score like he should with his ability and temperament!

Overall he is a good player with the ability to become a great player.

I like Mushy's innings-building approach when he comes in the lower middle-order. I don't think he's suitable for that position, and he has been moved around quite a bit. So in all fairness, he wasn't given the chance with the bat to shine all that much. Having said that, he's still in the team primarily based on his batting skills as we desperately needed a keeper who's good with the bat. Mushy isn't a terrible keeper, but he is quite bad. Could be worse. But due to his height, he is at a disadvantage coz he can't keep those balls that go past that 6inch or 12inch margin from his gloves. He does make up for it by being extra annoying behind the wicket. For batsmen who lose their mind over this annoying nature, this can be a great plus point.

I'm not familiar with the domestic circuit and don't know what's in the pipeline. But if there's no other keeper who could bat as good as Mushy, he's staying for the next little while. The only big competitor of Mushy was Dhiman...who screwed it up for himself. Here is Dhiman's profile from CricInfo - 14 ODIs with a batting average of 14! http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/conte...yer/56208.html

yesterday i was reading an old thread in indiancricketfans.com...they quote him as 'goat' as too much chirping behind he stumps....anyway what KABIR vai said rest of the post i totally agree...but why dont you mention JAHURL AMI(SPELLING MIGHT B WRONG,SRY)....as far as i know he is a quite decent wc and better batsman...but due to the fact MUSHI is playing such a long time he became little experience i guess..so unless he became ''pilot'', very less chance that his position is gonna change frm the team...

well, i am surprised, but even I, being one of his staunchest supporter, can't justify myself because in the end it comes down to performance.......and not "only potential"......and i concur.....hopefully, this world cup, he shall prove a point.

You really cant improve your average if you bat so low in the order. Ash was always a top order batsman...

I am not sold on his wicketkeeping. However, he can be a very good batsman, perhaps even great. Especially if he is allowed to concentrate on batting only.
