Default Progress of Bangladesh praiseworthy

''Progress of Bangladesh praiseworthy''

CHITTAGONG, June 27: John A Gastright, deputy assistant secretary of US Bureau of South Assian Affairs, who is here on a fact finding mission on Monday said the progress of Bangladesh is praiseworthy, reports UNB.
But corruption remained a stumbling block. The Anti-Corruption Commission has to be given an institutional shape and make it active to curb corruption, Gastright told a selected group of journalists at American Corner.
He said Chittagong Port has tremendous prospect. Some irregularities are to be removed to make it attractive to international traders.
Asked about duty and quota free access of Bangladesh products to the US market Gastright said it is under consideration of the Senate. It is a lengthy process, he said, adding he is hopeful of a positive outcome.
The US official said his government considered Bangladesh a moderate Muslim country and hoped the next general elections will be held smooth and free.
Gastright visited the Export Processing Zone, Naval Academy and Chittagong port.
"Chittagong is a vibrant city with a great deal to offer, particularly in shipping and international trade," he said.
The US official was happy to note that the Chittagong American Corner now hosts students and faculty conducting research, journalists using the reference materials and students seeking information on studying in the United States.

All right, that's enough! Too much of this positive news about Bangladesh!

Why can't you dig around in the Daily Star for all the wonderfully negative crap about our country? Or, if you can't find bad news, just make some up. Get with the program dude!

Kiddin'. Thanks once again. Good readin' this was.

Billah Bahi, I get the drift about daily star. But for those who do not view our country beyond the scope of what Mahfuz Anam try to portray (except occasional positive news), I would say - developing country like Bangladesh will have many problems but we should be able to view our country and all of it from a higher ground than from a plateau. We just need to see things in positive light and try to solve problems we have. Not frustrated by negatives and timid of our sprit.

Just think how we all were energized by BD victory over Australia

Reading DS gives the impresion Bangladesh is a failure and an international pariah, more so when they give AL quotes like "Bangladesh is friendless" as headlines without quotation marks.
