Default Dhaka, Tehran sign deal to boost trade

UNB, Dhaka

Bangladesh and Iran signed a trade agreement here yesterday to boost bilateral trade cooperation, with facilities to re-export products from the contracting countries to third countries.

Bangladesh Commerce Minister Altaf Hossain Choudhury and Iranian Commerce Minister Mohammed Shariatmadari signed the deal on behalf of their sides. Commerce Ministry Adviser Barkat Ullah Bulu and other senior officials from the two sides were also present. The agreement was signed for five years.

"It'll help us develop a trade-link with Iran through gradually removing trade barriers in shipping, banking and insurance," Altaf told reporters following the signing ceremony.

He said the agreement would also facilitate Bangladesh to extend its trade to the Muslim countries of central Asia and CIS, including Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan.

Shariatmadari, now heading a seven-member Iranian delegation in Dhaka, expressed Iran's investment interests in automobile and petrochemical industries in Bangladesh.

According to the 19-chapter agreement, bilateral trades would take place within the existing tariff structures of the two countries.

The contracting countries would encourage their business entities to participate in trade fairs in either country to promote their products as well as to exchange trade delegations and establish a joint trade body under the agreement.

Just out of curiosity, why are you posting these news clips in the forum? I mean, who really gives a damn if Bangladesh and Iran sign a trade deal or not? I imagine there are other forums out there which are more interested in the esoteric dealings of international trade.. Unless of course you are trying to make a point, in which case please let us know what it is?

Otherwise, this is a useless spacewaster.

Surely you have heard of that Michael Jacksons song with the kickpacha Van Halen solo? I allude to "beat it".

They Told Him Don't You Ever Come Around Here
Don't Wanna See Your Face, You Better Disappear
The Fire's In Their Eyes And Their Words Are Really Clear
So Beat It, Just Beat It

[2nd Verse]
You Better Run, You Better Do What You Can
Don't Wanna See No Blood, Don't Be A Macho Man
You Wanna Be Tough, Better Do What You Can
So Beat It, But You Wanna Be Bad

[Chorus]
Just Beat It, Beat It, Beat It, Beat It
No One Wants To Be Defeated
Showin' How Funky Strong Is Your Fight
It Doesn't Matter Who's Wrong Or Right
Just Beat It, Beat It
Just Beat It, Beat It
Just Beat It, Beat It
Just Beat It, Beat It

The "Beat it" lyrics is much more interesting than the Dhaka Tehran deal.

If I remeber correctly. Bangladesh commerce minister was in Pakistan some time ago. He was discussing with his Pakistani counterpart about Bangladesh products being re-exported from Pakistan.

Pakistan is located centrally, and is connected via land, to South Asia, China, West Asia, Central Asia, and 1 hour flight to Middle East. So it makes Pakistan more ideal.

Although Iran is building a port, Chah Bahar, to compete with Pakistan's Gwadar Port, Phase I completed. Pakistan's Gwadar Port would cater to China, Central Asia, and African trade, and would be a free trade zone like Dubai.

So, Bangladesh got more benefit going with Pakistan. We also provide a transit facility to Central Asia, most of Central Asian countries exports go from Karachi.

Anyways, good luck guys.

Go peruse TigerFan's post going back to last year. Then ask for an explanation. One incident does not get someone banned - surely you know that
