He can’t play down the order. He is a opener where field is up he has space behind to go over the top, field up gives him more room to play big shots in the first 10 ov.

Saw him bat below 5 few times he looks unsure what to do. Although this match I thought he did well, had he gave in like Mahmudulllah Riyad did and soon after got out cheaply then BD would’ve been out for less than 200 runs. He did take time, took on right ball to hit. Shame he had a brainfart in the end, that double which was never a double run there. Had he stayed till the last ball BD could’ve got to 240+.

He has many weakness. Seems very lethargic at times, has some sort of easily satisfied mentality and seems like hasn’t fixed his batting issues. He needs to work harder on his game and fitness and come back. He needs to bat long sessions domestics, he needs to be told to focus harder, better extra!! More you train, better your game will improve. You have talent, the making of a good player but every top players work millions times harder than the ok, good, or rubbish players. You must work harder on your game, batting, fielding, running, match awareness needs to improve by watching a lot of videos of how top class players done it.

Should he permanently be tagged as T20 specialist only?

Averaging 17.68 in 38 T20 matches with a highest score of 51 doesn't sound like a 'T20 specialist' to me. In his defense, most of our batsmen suck at that format.
Don't be a blind fan, be rational

I have been one of Somya's biggest fans from early days. I really saw a huge potential. He has wonderful hands guiding the square cuts and off drives. His timing and power is world class. He showed that he is not afraid to face genuine quick.

Where he severely lacked is making improvements in his game when the technical deficiencies are discovered and exploited. Where he lacked is showing determination and grit in the face of adversity. With all the experience he had, his cricketing IQ remains low. Again and again, he fails to read match situation or bowler's plan.

Honestly, I don't see much hope. It is one thing to have the raw potential. It is completely another thing to have grit, heart and aspiration to reach the potential. I think, he should be left out of national team for the time being but be given the resources so that he can work on his game and mental aspect. He needs to show immense improvement on his game in domestic cricket for another consideration.
