Default SAG T20 competition

I wonder why BCB have not yet declared Bangladesh U/21 team.

I am looking forward to see following players doing well in this competition -

Rony Talukder
Mithun Ali
Nasir Hossain
Ariful Haque

The last few lines are just to create sensationalism. Speculating is always wrong. Double wrong for journalist because views are formed from their interpretation.

Summery - PCB told BCB that there is not going to be any Pakistani team in South Asian Games T20 cricket competition. BCCI have not said anything officially, but informally they also said it's unlikely that there will be an Indian team in the competition.

Sri Lanka, Nepal, and Maldives confirmed their participation, Afghanistan is also likely to do so.

We better, it will be a big farce if the host does not field a team. No declaration from BCB yet though who may play. It has to be a U/21 team.

So let me get this straight. Bangladesh are hosting an under-21 20 overs competition.

When does it start and finish? Is it a straight knockout or group stage then knockout? I'm assuming we'll be selecting players from u-19 team as well as academy players under 21. Also we should be in the final to face Sri Lanka if results go according to the form book.

^^ The competition was supposed to start from 2nd February, with 7 teams divided in two groups. But now that India and Pakistan not participating, the scheduling should change.

I doubt U/19 players can return from NZ in time to participate in the competition.

And most of the academy team players who are eligible would be with the divisional teams for NCL. I hope they send a decent side.

Cricket has been scrapped from SA games! BOA needed participation from at least 4 nations to continue with an event and they got confirmation from only Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Maldives!

http://www.bangladesherkhela.com/ind...&editionID=909

What the heck?! Did someone forget to contact Nepali cricket board?!

I can't help but think there is a hidden agendum here. Though BOA is the organizing committee for SA games, BCB should have taken an active role to confirm participation of cricket teams from other countries. But KKR is visiting Bangladesh same time SA games is going to take place, and news is that BCB is going to make good money out of the tour. So, may be BCB is reluctant to field players such as Rony and Mithun in SA games instead of fielding them against KKR.

Do we have that much shortage of young players? U-19 not available. Academy plays KKR. We can't field another 11 of U20?
+++
The report mentions that only 3 teams confirmed participation. BD, Maldives, SL. What happened to Nepal? BOA wants atleast 4.

^^ That's the most confusing part. Reports say Nepal U/21 started their prep for the competition from last month.

Another reason BOA may want to scrap the event is that cricket stadiums are not ready yet for the competition.

PCB agrees to send U21 team to Bangladesh

LAHORE,Jan 15 (APP)- Pakistan Cricket Board has finally agreed to send Pak U21 team to Bangladesh to feature in South Asian Games being held next month in Dhaka.

PCB which earlier refused to send the team reversed the decision after a meeting between Chairmann PCB, Mohammad Ijaz Butt and President Pakistan Olympic Association, Lt Gen (retd) Syed Arif Hasan here on Friday.

PCB had declined to sponsor the tour and refused to send its team to participate in the Games.

President,POA perturbed with the earlier decision of the Board decided to meet Chairman PCB to convince him to change his mind.

Sources in POA told APP that Gen Arif explained the importance of regional Games and said Pakistan stands a fair chance to win a cricket gold.

“ He pleaded the case of sending the team to Bangladesh in a positive manner and gave a number of reasons for teams participation “,they said adding “ Chairman PCB showed a good gesture and agreed to the argument of Arif Hasan and approved the team’s participation.

It was decided that U21 cricket squad will be announced shortly.

Cricketers vow good show

The players of National Cricket Academy were given priority when the selectors picked the squad for the Twenty20 event in the 11th South Asian Games, beginning on January 29.

Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal and Maldives will be vying in the shortest version of the sport, which has been included in the regional extravaganza for the first time. However, India are not sending their cricket team in the showpiece event.

"Our main strength lies in batting as six to seven batsmen have good strike-rates and we have also good spinners in the side. We only lack in the pace department," said team manager Ehsanul Haque during the announcement of the squad at the Olympic Bhaban yesterday.

Of the 14-member squad, 10 came from the Academy, two from the national U-19 side and remaining two from clubs.

"In the age-group competition, all participants of the subcontinent are equal in terms of strength and we are expecting good competition," said the former national player.

The squad will start its preparation from January 24 before facing Nepal in the opening match in Bogra on January 31.

Anamul Haque and Sabbir Rahman, who are now featuring in the ICC U-19 World Cup in New Zealand, will join the camp upon their return.

Assistant coach Sohel Islam said that late preparation would not affect much to his side because the players were in match practice in the domestic league as well as in different competitions.

Co-ordinator Nazmul Abedin Fahim believes there is a good chance for the hosts to put up good show though Sri Lanka and Pakistan are the strong opponents in the group-stage matches.

The participating five teams will first play round-robin matches from where the top two sides will play for gold medal while the third and fourth finishers will fight for bronze medal.

About the non-participation of Indian side, Bangladesh Olympic Association vice-president and chef de mission Mizanur Rahman Manu said that India did not send their entry because of their tight schedule in the domestic league.

He, however, later said that India were not taking part in the SA Games due to lack of co-ordination between the Indian Olympic Association and the Indian cricket board.

SQUAD
Mohammad Mithun, Nasir Hossain, Rony Talukdar, Anamul Haque Bijoy, Asif Ahmed Ratul, Sabbir Rahman, Jubair Rahman, Ariful Haque, Hamdul Islam Himel, Tanvir Haider, Subashish Roy, Emon Ahmed, Sanjamul Islam and Nazmul Islam Apu.

Officials: Ehsanul Haque (manager), Sarwar Imran (head coach), Sohel Islam (asst coach), Azmal Ahmed Mithu (physio) and M Salahuddin (computer analyst).

Sri Lanka squad for the competition -

Ashan Prianjana (Captain), Dinesh Chandimal, Dilshan Munaweera, Lahiru Thirimanna, N. Mazahoor, Anjelo Perera, Kaushal Perera, Sachith Pathirana, Thisara Perera, Ishan Jayarathna, Hasitha Ilongakoon, Iresh Udayanga, Vimanga Perera, Naviln Kavikara.

http://www.colombopage.com/archive_1...3923216CH.html

Thisara Perera has already played for Lanka senior team. Dinesh Chandimal and Lahiru Thirimanna were part of the Lanka squad in Tri-series though they did not get to play. Lanka team seem to be strongest one in the competition.
