Ahmed Shehzad with a 70, that's good to see. i honestly think shehzad and jamshed are their best 2 openers right now so both should get extended runs in at least test and ODI cricket.

i know but it is in my opinion that they should be. farhat shouldn't have been recalled and hafeez well i'm certain shehzad and jamshed are both better FC openers than hafeez, i realise he's an all round option but if that's the case bat him down around 7, he's really not consistent enough by Pakistan standards to be a top 6 batsman in their test team.

hopefully shehzad's 70 and 98* in the t20s has opened the eye's of the selectors to give him a longer run and a chance in test cricket. certainly better to give him a chance in tests rather than continue with farhat and even hafeez.

I've always said that they need to give Shehzad a run in all forms of the game. The guy is a quality player and if given a solid run, he can turn out to be a great player for Pakistan. Same as Jamshed. Both these players should open and have Hafeez at #3.

Imran Farhat is the luckiest cricketer in Pakistan. He and Imran Nazir got far too many chances for their repeated failures.
Pakistani batsman will look like a million dollars in Zimbabwe but performances in this series will not prepare them for results against the stronger teams. ICC champions trophy campaign was a real test of their batting ability and I hope they have more talent in the pipeline other than Umar Akmal.

^Farhat gets selected time and again because of his connection with the selectors I believe. Kind of like Tamim but thankfully he's a key member in our team. I would hate for a fringe player to be an automatic selection especially in a side like Pakistan.

probably because he's 31 and has played 40 tests averaging only 32 and 58 ODIs averaging only 30. Pakistan aren't short enough on talent to keep investing time and money on someone like imran farhat, better off investing that time and money in the younger guys like shehzad and umar akmal.

according to me Shehzad still has a lot to prove as a batsman, he was mind blowing in BPL1 & the last two T20s vs Zim,
still has a poor average of 25.91 in ODIs.
definitely a good T20 batsman, great fielder but with this batting avg in ODIs don't see anything big coming in Test.
But good luck to him.

ODIs aren't always a good indicator of how a player will be in test match cricket, shehzad has an FC average in the 40s, he's only like 21, he might have a poor ODI record but still has 2 ODI tons and as we saw recently got a 70 and a 98* in consecutive international t20 matches all be it against zimbabwe. he's in good enough form and imo has good enough numbers (with the 40+ FC average, ODI tons, 98* international t20) to be given extended chances at the international level in every format, keep in mind he's only 21.

if shehzad doesn't deserve chances ahead of someone like imran farhat then no one does (which is ridiculous because imran farhat is completely average at the international level).

look at tamim, sure he's fallen away a bit in tests now but his ODI was probably less than 30 when he got his first chance in tests, he also had an FC average in the 40s like shehzad (still does), was a similar age, and look at what tamim has done in tests, for awhile he was averaging 40 got 4 tons, still averaging 37 which isn't too bad for a 24 year old.

i think what shehzad has achieved so far in his international career and domestic career shows that he has a lot of tools to be successful at the international level including tests. he may not have been able to have put it all together yet in ODIs but he is only 21 after all.

Misbah is 39 now, I wonder if he'll retire without scoring a ODI ton, averages about 45, 120 odd matches and no ton.

Zimbabwe is a pretty decent team at home, as we know pretty well. That's why it was a bit surprising that they got hammered like that against basically a second string India team. I know India's good but I thought they would have shown better fight then that. Looks like they've come back a stronger team now. They should be able to win this game but we really can't say since Zimbabwe can collapse at any moment.
