The 1999 WC Semifinal between S. Africa and Australia is considered one of the greatest matches of ODI history. The match was ended in a tie and Australia moved to the Final based on their higher point table standing on super-6 stage.
Before the last over of the match, S. Africa was 205/9 and needed 9 runs off last 6 balls to reach 214 and win the match. Lance Klusner cracked two sizzling boundaries off the first two deliveries of the over and the score was tied. S. Africa then needed just 1 run off the 4 remaining balls. No runs were scored on the third ball and non-striker Allan Donald was almost run-out while he was backing up too far and a direct hit missed the non-strikers end stump's just by an inch.
Then came the most dramatic moment of the match. Lance Klusener pulled the 4th ball of the over in back down the wicket, and called Allan Donald for a run. But, Donald somehow remained on his crease. Klusener ran toward Doland and joined him at the bowler's end. At that moment then Dobald dropped his bat (!!!) and eventually began running in a despairing effort but one that was made far too late to avert disaster.
Many of you who watched the match might still remember this dramatic turn of events. I found highlights of this match on Google video. Watch the video at the following link:
