Default State Of Fast Bowling In The World Today

Like many of you, I grew up watching Wasim, Waqar, Ambrose, Walsh, McGrath, Lee, Donald. Not sure whether we ll get to see that level of pace talent again, but if you are evaluating the current state of fast bowling in the world.

Which team has the best fast bowling unit in the world today? Not just an individual pacer, but a collective group of quicks.

South Africa. Steyn, rabada, philander, morkel, they had Abbott.

Aussies pretty good with Starc and hazel wood as well as guys like Pattinson, bird etc

NZ decent with southee, boult, Wagner, Henry, Milne.

It doesn't help with 350 par pitches it's disgraceful and will harm the game in the long run, 300 should still be a good match winning score, not below par, which kid is going to watch bowlers going at 8 an over and think, wow I want to be that guy

India has been investing heavily in its pace bowling since 1987, when they got Dennis Lillee, formed MRF Pace Foundation.

But probably for the first time, they have a heck of a pace bowling unit. Bhuvanesh, Yadav, Bumrah, Shami. All 140+, all good with new ball, old ball, death bowling. You can even add Pandya to the list who too can reach 140, pick wickets in crucial times.

The way we were bundled out in the warmup was no accident, it was bowling of the highest quality. New Zealand also suffered the same a few days ago.

Yah mighty impressed with the Indian bowling, although to me it seems they transformed a bunch of average to above average bowlers into fine world class bowlers by coaching. Yadav, Bumrah, Bhuvi (only Shami from what I remember always bowled well) were all average. But as time went by they have become a strong bowling unit. The weapon all of them have is not only pace but movement off seam and in the air.

It's a shame though, how we have regressed since Walsh took over. During Streak's era our bowling unit was one of the best going around at that time. Now eventhough we have the talent it seems like we haven't kept them on a tight leash and now it is in total disarray almost. I would really like to know what happenned to Taskin.

I think Kohli backing and giving confidence to pacers helped them as well, even upcoming guys like thampi, khejroliya, shardul, ankit, siraj, chaudhary, avesh, nathu, sangwan can all clock high pace and have better control.

With fizz, taskin, rubel, al amin, Abu hider, saifuddin, rabbi, shahid BD can have a pretty solid pace unit in all formats.

To me if you really want to divide all the pacers from Bangladesh into different tiers, the result will be:

1) National Team
- Mashrafe
- Fizz
- Rubel
- Taskin

2) The A Team
- Shafiul
- Rabbi
- Al Amin
- Abu Hider
- Shuvashish
- Shahid

3) Rookie/Upcoming
- Shafiuddin
- Mohammad Azam
- Mohammad Anik (Taskin's rival)
- Ebadat Hossain (there was another guy from the pacer hunt who impressed me but couldn't remember his name after lotsa tries)
- Mohammad Rana
- Nahid Islam (the U-19 Left armer, I think that's the name who bowls faster than Mustafiz and swings it more)

If you ask me, guys like Anik, Ebadat and Shafiuddin are more talented than the A team and Bangladesh need to invest in them more. Guys like Rabbi and Shafiul should be put in discards list forever but that's just my opinion.

India has easily one of the best pace attacks right now. I really love the variety they have in their fast bowling department. Bhuvi, Shami and Yadav r simply superb.

It's amazing what happens to a team when the captain backs his fast bowlers. Kudos to Kohli for that, one of the reasons he succeeds is because he has that great cricketing brain and great knowledge. He is where he is because he learns everyday and really reads and plays cricket like a mechanic builds a car or an equipment and a scientist devises an experiment.

Not only that, even the fast bowlers understand their role clearly they know that they offer something different and captain thinks of them as attacking option a wicket taking option, so that in itself is a boost to any bowler ,he tells them to go for wickets, which is heartening to see.

You are spot on, Dhoni with all his greatness as a captain treated fast bowlers horribly, favored line length trundlers over the faster ones, it is really heartening to see that finally we got rid of the likes of Vinay Kumar, kulkarni and Mohit Sharma.

All the pace attacks will be judged how they perform in the CT...the top 8 sides in the world, flat belter wickets...this will seperate the men from the boys.

I would have to say the Aussies are #1 followed closely by SA. NZ's pace attack in ODIs is vastly over-rated. India I'm on the fence about...will have to see where the numbers fall.

Pakistan's could be decent with Hasan Ali and Amir. Ours should also be competitive with Fizz, Taskin, Rubel and Mash.

Sri Lanka have no pace attack to speak off...their quickest bowlers Chameera and Kumara both go at 8 an over and weren't even picked for a global ICC tournament.

With all improvements, India would still rank behind Aus and SA by a margin.

That assuming they are even as good as we think they are. Since the 2015 World Cup:

Shami averages 25 with a decent econ, and Bumrah is excellent stats but has played even fewer games than the Fizz.

Bhuvi and Umesh both average 40+ with Umesh's economy rate at an astouding 6.81.

All that being said, Shami-Yadav-Mohit formed a fearsome unit in the group stages of the WC of course they got to bowl to UAE, ZIM, IRE, and PAK in their group but still.
