Default Sourav Ganguly joins Pune Warriors

Sourav Ganguly,
the former India captain, has been signed by Pune Warriors as a replacement for Ashish Nehra, who was ruled out for the remainder of the 2011 season with a finger injury.Ganguly's contract is for a period of one year
and is an IPL lifeline to the batsman after he went unsold at the player auction in January, where
his base price was
$400,000.
Ganguly will be vice-captain to Yuvraj Singh and is likely to join the
Pune squad ahead of their match against Mumbai
Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on May 4.

No, I'm Bangladeshi (West Bengal are bengali too but they fall into India according to National Geographic lol). But I'm still a massive Ganguly supporter, loved the way he got under Flintoff's skin and Steve Waugh's which is hard to do. Plus he took it up with Chappel and growing up in NZ, Chappel is pretty disliked there as well. His sportsmanship precedes him

^^^Oh I see.....

Regarding Ganguly's late entry:
This for some reason seems sort of humiliating for KKR fans...

Yeah it is embarrassing, not having a single bengal origin guy there, no matter how much they try and pass off Morgan as Tamim undergoing Fair and Lovely TM metamorphosis it won't get Bangali support

You're not a west bengal by any chance right? Chittagonian? if you are then you must have nice views chittagong is a beautiful place, G Smith goes holidaying there. I should have something in my sig saying BD cricket is my oxygen too lol, hope I'm not mistaken by anyone, I try and remain as objective as I can, sometimes i fail though

What's more embarassing though is having Shah Rukh khan as owner (Whatmore's a good coach, I just picked on him becuase of shakib's exclusion). What is even more embarassing is being called Knight Riders with no Hasselhoff on the team and no talking car-Tata and Maruti are hardly futuristic prototypes (never was a watcher of the show, preferred macgyver-would have preferred Kolkata Macgyvers-gave it a better ring IMO)

Manoj Tiwary is a Bengali. People in Calcutta call him "choto dada".

The thing about Gangs is that he is a selfish and devisive individual. When India was in the WI for the WC, all the players were in some sort of groups... Gangs was pretty much by himself and/or with some chamcha types. it makes sense that he managed to piss off non Indians as well. That is just who he is.

In fact, I live in Chittagong but I am not a Chittagonian.....I am from Lakshmipur(Part of Noakhali district before 1971) by origin.... And yes, I do agree with your words very much, imo, a team that is dedicated for Bengal must have representatives from Bengal as well......hence, it is in fact more sensible that many people from WB are not supporting the team if not all...

I don't know if he is originally from somewhere else.

His profile in CI says he was born in Bengal.

u have no idea then. shewag, yuvi, kaif, bhajji spoke openly in favour of sourav. in ipl 1 ist two teams that being announced were kkr and rcb and sourav and dravid stood in 2 sides facing each other. then the following 5 captains go and stood behind dada and the last captain warne went to company dravid who was all alone...now u do the math.

Perfect remedy for Summer revision

Was v dissapointed that Ganguly wasn't picked for KKR (though I can understand the reasoning)

Hopefully Ganguly can spark a comeback in Pune!

P.S Bangladesh_sy (how u bin bro?) and mar umpire are correct. Manoj Tiwary was born In Haora, but talks about his ancestry from Uttar Pradesh in an article (google and see). Ethnically he is Bihari, I know this because, my Bihari mate, always goes on how the best KKR local team is a Bihari deep down.

Though there is a Bengali in the team, Shreevats Goswami. But disappointingly he is not 1st team keeper.

It's a franchise, it doesn't necessarily have to have any representation from the same geographical region. Think most leagues in North America - players get traded/sign up for whoever is offering the best deal all the time.

good man, joined uni in 2009, so life away from home and regular pc and internet connections! U doing ok? Rarely see u on msn, u still on?

KKR havent played Pune yet, think it's on the 19th (when I have an OSCE! arghh) but playing in Mumbai I think...funny...no scheduled Pune vs KKR in Kolkata...haha

ATMR, hope ur kl bro, but I think South Asian mentality is different (and I know, sums me up!) where there HAS to be a connection with the locality. I've noticed this with English football, and from what you told me American leagues that it's slightly different.

Having said that, I'm a proud supporter of my local football team even though they are in Championship...no Man U/Arsenal/Liverpool for me!
