So far, there has not been a century by a BD batsman. I think it will change this WC. I assume that this thread is to monitor the team performance and not to monitor how we are prepared to host the event. BTW, cricinfo has an interesting column here about how well India is prepared to host the event. We have co-procrastinators!

5 wins in 3 wc and we r talking about wining the wc..u need to win atleast 7 matches to win a world cup..we haven't won this # of matches in 3 wc and u people believe that we can win in a flash..plz dont let reality hit u in the head..

as someone said in the forums i remember "cricket is a process not a event or two"..a QF berth is the most realistic situation here..beyond that is a bonus..if we can achieve this we will be surely win the wc in the near future

and plz dont bash me without logic..if I have to eat my words i'll be the happiest person in the world..If Bangladesh wins the wc and my logic fails do i lose?..NO..if Bangladesh fails to win the WC and i am right do i Win??..NO

The way I look at it is, if we can make it to the second round, anything can happen. This BD team can beat any team on a given day. If we reach the QF, we have to do that in three matches. Stranger things have happened on a cricket field...

I think QF should be expected and not making it should be considered a disappointment. SF is not a far fetched concept given that we will have home field (barring playing SL) and our recent wins vs. NZ & SL at home. PAK and AUS doesn't appear that threatening at the moment either.

of course we're not going to win, but...

99 team was associate team, they doesn't count.

2003 team didn't even deserve to be there.

2007 team was the only decent side we had.

the 2007 squad was built well. Not as talented as the current squad but each position had the right player that when on song could bring about a victory.

TI was the slogging opener, SN (biggest disappointment in that WC) was the anchor who could score at a good pace. Aftab was the accelerator at #3 and Shakib and Mushy were versatile enough to stabilize and/or hit as well as the allrounders, Bashar was an experienced leader (granted not the best tactician), Ash was a finisher, Rafique was the veteren presence, Razzak the new blood, Mash the attacking pacer and Rasel the container. Everybody new what their role was and changes were made for match situations (Mushy at #3 vs. India).

Our team for the past 4 years has been built too defensively for my taste. Players are selected and then placed into roles as opposed to selecting the proper players to fill the roles. The approach has been more geared to save face then it has been to win. But still the talent is there and this team should be making it to the QF. If nothing else, then not to backtrack on the 2007 success.

I'm psyched for this WC, dishing out the money on the pay-per-view and the cost that comes with having the WC parties at home. Hopefully, it will be money well spent.

Lets start with the selector. (I hope you don't mind me adding this.)

I give them 6/10- In danger of failing. It would've be 5, but thinking somewhat professionally and not including Mashrafe bin Mortaza was a bold and a correct move, so it's a 6. It could've been 7, but inclusion of Mohammed Ashraful made me deduct 1 point. He is a delima

Including Shahriar Nafees was a good call. I think he deserves a chance. The guy is trying to start fresh, and everyone deserves a 2nd chance.

Another questionable pick was SD Shuvo. Looking at Shuvo's performance, how he bats and bowls, I don't think I'd have picked him. Picking players based on stats and figure is to me an incorrect move. He can't bat, he bowls half pitch-pie. Only reason he did well vs NZ was because NZ suck against spin. That performance alone shouldn't give him a spot. Although he is a decent fielder.

Not including Sahbir Rahman was also a smart move. Many BCers were dying to see him in ODI shirt, based on 3 6s that he hit vs some team I can't even remember in some tournament, that I never even heard of until then. Good to see them come out of typical bangla-selecting: "include 5 kids aged between 16-19". I can assure you, if Rahman is handled properly, but next WC, he will be a class act. Lets not ruin him like we ruin many talented U-19 kids.

I am not happy with what they've been doing to Jahurul Islam, which is a bit more personal. With couple of limited chances he showed glimpse of what he is capable of. But he was never able to settle down in the team. He was benched the whole series, and then he was dropped from the next, even though he had a decent series in Eng with w/e chances he was given. He can easily come as a backup keeper, a backup opener, or a middle order bat. Touch wood, if something happens to Rahim, who will be keeping? Siddique?

Here are some stats to ponder over:

Since 2007 WC:
BD has broken 250 only 13 times.
300 was broken 3 times (all wins) vs. ZIM (2) and UAE
270-300 accounted for 5 times (2 wins vs. WI & IRE and 3 losses to IND (2) and PAK)
250-270 accounted for 5 times (all losses including one to ZIM)

Only 4 matches have been won by chasing with a 6.00 RPO or better. 3 of them are against ZIM and one against SL (all in 2009)

It has really been our bowling that has kept us in or won us matches in most cases in the past few years.

Leaving out ZIM and WI (due to them not fielding a full strength team), our major wins since the 2007 WC include

1 vs. SL
1 vs. ENG and
5 vs. NZ

For our group:

Last win vs. IND : 2007 WC
Last win vs. SA : 2007 WC
Last win vs. ENG : 2010
Last win vs. WI : 2009 / Never if you consider full strength teams
Last win vs. IRE : 2010
Last win vs. NED : Never

With the way the pitches are acting especially at Chittagong, we don't have to worry about 300+ runs. 220-240 should be a winning score against the goras!!

But we beat them in 1997. the best innings by a Bd captain ever. Chasing a modest target of 171 Bd was 15/4 and then rain interrupted revised target of 141 in 32 overs were achived by an unbeaten 68 of Akram khan. If we lost that match there would not been any WC or test status as we were on the blink of elimination. Scorecard

^^ Durjoy opening with Athahar Ali, followed by Sanawar at one down - what a line up!

Did not we have JO and Biddut in that ICCT squad?

^ I think Biddut debuted after for BD after the 1997 ICCT. I could be wrong though.

^^ In 1996, we won the ACC Trophy beating UAE. Biddut was the highest scorer of the tourney (source).

Here is the scorecard for the final - http://www.cricketarchive.com/Archiv...02/102653.html

Politics in the selection process badly pegged us back in those years. We were really lucky to win the ICCT!

Though Ash is second in the list according to numbers of runs scored, notice how poor his average was in those matches! SN is another batsman who has done really poorly against oppositions listed here (India and SA).

Other than Shakib and Abdur Razzak, other bowlers don't have much success in those matches to talk about
