That is definitely a valid point, nobody should be above law. I wish we had a country where this was true.

An Article, Every Bangladeshi should read, specially the young generation, who are with a view that they know it all and understand it all about politics in Bangladesh, by reading a few party based propaganda blogs or face book status.
It's refreshing to see that there are still people, who can see things from a neutral point of owe and have the courage to speak it out. Thank you Dr. Tushar.

I found that amusing in one way and frightening in another. Amusing and frightening that there are elements within Awami League (read Hasina or those who have her years) that believe any element of BAKSAL can be defended.
Between AL, BNP, and Jamaat, the country is royally screwed.

I felt the same, and I think even on that Shahbag thread you had same exchanges with ZSayeed Bhai, but he like many AL supporter too seem to still believe that BAKSAL can be defended.
There is a motivating angle within AL. That motivation contains several awami assumptions/awami twists to make it look justified, like Mujib didn't read it before signing, since he trusted the people. But then they also do trust the motivating lectures so they don't go on to read the original doc. So they get convinced that it can be defended.

Will BAL still get voted into office again on the back of this totally corrupt and incompetant rejection of foreign assistance?

Finding an alternate way to stay on power without earning votes or the voting process is the ultimate dream of our political parties. To achieve that they are willing to change constitution, administration, presidents, heads of armed forces, university, judiciary, hire goons as police, election officers etc etc. They are willing to do ANYTHING except serving the people of bd which is ironically the easiest way to get back into power.

So true!
After the fall of ershad, I really thought that we will have a robust democracy in 15-20 years. After every election I would think that the elected govt just has to do some basic infrastructure work to push economic activity, and they are bound to re-elected if they improve the livelihood of the people.

I guess this is in sync with hasina recent initiative to clear "misconception" about bakshal.
I skimmed through the article, and I saw youtube video a while back. The most hilarious part for me was in the interview text, when Mujib tried to defend one party rule comparing it to islamic governance (Khelafat Rasedin) and china. I hope he realizes that if pakistan was under one party rule before separation, then there would have been no political party like AL and hence no platform for independence.
I don't understand why Hasina would wants to bring Bakshal in spotlight now, especially in terms of politics. I just hope that this is not an indication of what's coming our way.

Personally, I am happy with the choice of Abdul Hamid as president.
Not too happy with the choice of an almost unknown person as Speaker. I wonder if anyone has any info about her success story in the child and women affairs ministry.

House is one of my favourite characters.
It could mean several things to several people.
1. Religious people are not reasonable.
2. Religion is not based on reason
3. If religious people would be engaged reasonably - then they would not be religious any more.
But then some of the meanings are fallacious - as the original statement is an if then - and not an if and only if.
so, 3 seems to be the right one.
But it could mean different things to different people.
And - religion does not need to be religion in every day word. For example - having a one-sided heavy handed theory - or to assume things of other's theories and dogmatically pass it of as such imposed if you will - that is ones opinion of others motives be it true of the others motives or not - is religion. Just like idols take on many shapes. Especially nowadays.

So at least we now know who are the defenders of BAKSHAL. This is good. Where there is a future Projonmo Chottor to go after these abusers of power, the search process will be easier.

Good read? For the unindoctrinated?
Thanks for the amusement in your transparent brazenness introducing high doctrine as a treatise of unbiased exposition.
You might as well show us the lifetime BAKSAL membership card you carry in your wallet.
It's very disingenuous.

Looks like you are not the only one who is unhappy with the speaker selection-

most young generations and 1st time voters are confused who to vote, only thing they dont want is jamat in power and thats the reason i think BAL will get most of their votes.
i myself was a 1st time voter in the last election and most of my generation voted BAL because we wanted the trail of Rajakars

I think BAL will win next election even without much cheating and stealing of votes because, as bad as they are as a government and a political party, they are the least worst of the top 4 parties in bangladesh. And no thats not a compliment for AL or says much about BD political parties.
BNP is pretty horrible as a political party and their leadership didn't even bother to pretend to not being corrupted, last time they were in charge. They did it pretty openly, proudly and I don't think much have changed for them since then.
AFA bangladesh is concerned its a no win situation.

That has always been your problem - that you cannot separate the person from the theory!
Stop taking digs at the person and make some counter arguments without the F word and such.

No.
I say this as someone who really doesn't care much for Bangladeshi politics and whose family loves and supports AL.
There is no way on earth AL will win the next election.
A couple of days ago, I was on a rickshaw. The rickshaw puller turns to me to inform me that the "Awami leader Rana" had been arrested earlier that day, and then he tells me that whenever AL comes to power, they always bring bad luck for the country. True or not, that is the perception people have of AL's rule.
The fact that there are thugs running rampant every time AL comes to power (Rana in Savar, Shamim Osman in Narayanganj, Biplob in Lakshmipur, the Jagannath University Chhatra League thugs who killed Biswajit - just to name a few of these thugs) make people think that AL is a party of thugs. Everybody in Bangladesh (except for blind partisans) think of BNP as the party of corruption. After four and a half years of thugs, if one is left to choose between a party of thugs and a corrupt party, most non-partisan people would rather vote for the people that are corrupt. If the country is ruled by corrupt people, you will get one less hour of electricity per day. If the country is ruled by thugs, you might not be left alive to enjoy whatever electricity is provided.
In spite of all the good that the PM (and her party) has achieved, all that people will remember about this AL term are Rana Plaza collapse, Biswajit killing, Hallmark scam, share market disaster and Padma bridge scandal. All these point to our PM's biggest weakness: she is loyal to a fault. Rana Plaza? Rana (and other thugs like Shamim Osman) shouldn't be allowed to don the AL's garb, but they do. Why can't the PM stop this at the grassroots level? Why doesn't she say that she won't tolerate thugs in her party? Biswajit killing was done by Chhatra League thugs. Again, why can't she say "no" to these thugs? Hallmark scam was perpetrated because these government banks had directors who were appointed based on their political identity. Why? Share market scam happened because of people like Salman F. Rahman; the PM knew this and didn't do anything to punish them, because Mr. Rahman happens to be her advisor. Padma bridge scandal wouldn't have happened if Abul Hossain knew that Sheikh Hasina would never have his back if he got caught. Sheikh Hasina went on to call him a patriot ("desh premik"). Why? Because he is an Awami Leaguer. The PM really needs to see that these people that she is loyal to just because they call themselves Awami Leaguers aren't loyal to the party; they are loyal to themselves only.
Anyway, there's no way AL will win the next election if it is a fair one. That means BNP will win by default, because there's no third option in our politics.
Some of you may disagree with me; the fact remains that almost all of you live abroad, and have very little idea about what's happening in Bangladesh. Even the ones who live here are hardly in touch with the reality in this country. The more I read these threads in BC, the more I realize that that's the case. Anyway, I didn't want to hurt anyone's feelings, so grouphug.
TLDR: AL will lose the next election.

the problem with BNP is jamat, this is the only reason they wont get much vote from the young generation
Weather BAL is good then BNP or BNP is good then BAL is totally pointless because we all know both of them are not the answer
we need a third party, but as there are none and jamat is with BNP, it'll be hard for BNP to get votes of under 30 people
