Default Foreign National those who supported Bangladesh in '71

Lets learn some those person, who supported us at our most sacrificing and struggling history. Especially, In a month when we should be tankful to many we have lost, and to very little we still have around. In a month and perhaps in a ongoing cricket series where we see unpleasant delusion of youth, lacking dignity or is it lacking effort to learn.

So, I thought may be we should gather those articles on PA and read/learn, who knows we might come to know few things which we didnt know.

Mr Simon Dring was also the visionary behind Ekushey TV when it was first launched and basically brought a revolutionary change in news broadcasting in Bangladesh. For political reasons he was humiliated by the than BNP government and was forced to leave the country.
(what a messed up country we belong to)

There's a fantastic book on Arthur K. Blood in English available in Bangladesh. I've only skimmed through it but it effectively documents, through primary sources, his contribution to the Liberation War and his direct opposition to orders from the American Embassy based in (West) Pakistan.

I think we shouldn't forget Anthony Mascarenhas here either. He was a West Pakistani journalist of Goan origin who, at great personal risk to himself and his family, gave an interview about the genocide + atrocities occuring in the then East Pakistan to the editor of the Sunday Times. The Times ran an extensive report on it immediately, thus garnering world-wide attention. He also published two books on the war, The Rape of Bangladesh (1972) and Bangladesh: A Legacy of Blood (1986), both of which are easily available in Bangladesh and are essential reading for everyone.

"This young 28 year old boy has spent the night in jail. He is called Jean Quai and is an old OAS who has fought then in Biafra and in Yemen and he wanted to be an help to bengali refugees. That is the reason why yesterday, during 8 hours, he has immobilized a pakistani Boeing. I figure out that some among you have followed this lets call it extraordinary, suspense the whole afternoon, due to the direct cameras of Jean Claude Ditierre et d'Armand Vande, and, i must add it was itself an event, because for the first time, the television did present directly an event in a continue way, same as till now the radio channels.

Anyway, to come back to this very surprizing adventure of yesterday, Hervé Chabalier has remade the film of what occured yesterday afternoon. It was at the time 17h05, moment where Chabalier will begin his story, and it had been 6 hours while the Boeing 720 had been immobilized in Orly airport. Since 11h50, the young air terrorist threatened the cockpit pilot with his weapon, a gun. He is eager to 20 metric ton of medicine, for the bengali population, or else he "is to be blast the whole plane". 17h15 the french authorities accept the conditions of Janquet, the first medicines have already landed in Orly airport, the terrorist accept than 8 passengers, a child among them, leave the plane.

These passengers, that you can see now, will be directly transported to Paris : the journalists won't be able to reach them. On the runway, the loading of medicine begins. Anti ear infection, powder milk essentialy. 19 hour a second truck full of medicine park near the plane. But this time, the warehousmen are disguised cops. This man who dirigate the conductor of the truck, on the right of your screen, will arrest in a few time the air pirat. Ideed the disguised policemen transport into the cockpit boxes of penicillin and take advantage of a moment of unawareness of the air pilot in order to belt him and master him.

The last passengers leave the plane, go down the gangway steps hurriedly, Janquet is carried in ambulance till Orly's police office, where he is given a first questioning. The crew go back to the air terminal, few minutes later there are the very first testimonies of passengers and policemen in front of the information cameras (Mr Peyresaube):"The young man, who looked about 24 years old, has given to the hostess, stewards and us the right to take some dinner" (Journalist):" And what was his behaviour toward you, has he diriged his gun toward you?" "Absolutely not, he was excessively full of amability, very nice" (Journalist)"Did he spoke to you?" (Mr Peyresaubes)"Oh yes he did, yes yes" (Journalist):"What did he said to you? (Mr Peyresaubes): "He said to us it was to give medicine, that we shouldnt be worried, and he has placed in the back of the plane a little girl with her mother, and then we when met the people who were carrying medicine, he has allowed to leave the old men,

" (Antoine Siblo, police officer): "We have taken advantage of an inattention moment of the boy, and because I was the closest from him, we reached him in hurry, he was surprized naturally (Jounalist)"I already know" (Antoine Siblo)"And in a reflex he pointed out his gun, myself to avoid the shoot i left in a hurry, and the bullet reached the pullover and the blazer made in setton" (Jounalist):"You were dressed up like bagagists, does the crew thought once that you all were policemen?" (Antoine Siblo):"No, I don't think so, at no time" (Journalist):"What concerns the medicins, they were instantanely carried out of the plane, and transported to Paris, but in fact it is only a transit." (Marquis (aristocrat title)of Agosti from the Malta order) " These medicine were all on the order of Malta, they are all here, and we will..."

(Journalist)"What will you do of these, now" (D'Agoste)" We will, well we will carried them out to the order of Malta order, and make them land to Pakistan too, because they were themselves supposed to reach Pakistan ! ".

The Concert for Bangladesh was the name for two benefit concerts organised by George Harrison and Ravi Shankar, held at noon and at 7 PM on August 1, 1971, playing to a total of 40,000 people at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The concert was organised to fund relief efforts for refugees from East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) following the 1970 Bhola cyclone and atrocities during Bangladesh Liberation War. The event was the first ever benefit concert of such a magnitude. It featured a supergroup of performers that included Ravi Shankar, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, George Harrison, Billy Preston, Leon Russell, Badfinger, and Ringo Starr.

I am sure, they will cover Andre Malraux. He was resistance member during the 2nd World War, and the author of Le Humane Condition (1933), he was ready to parachute into Bangladesh to liberate her.

I had the privilege of receiving and allowed to put up some historical documents from the
Bangladesh Liberation Council of the Intelligentsia on Virtua Bangladesh. The Council was an organization of displaced teachers, scientists, poets, artists, writers, journalists and actors of Bangladesh who managed to escape the wrath of the Pakistani army during the war.

It was formed with the objective of supporting the war efforts of the Bangladesh Government, to press to the attention of the world our case for independence, to document crimes of the Pakistan Army, to do educational work among our freedom fighters, and to find for their members means of subsistence while they work for the liberation movement.

I had the privilege of seeing the following original letter from Andre Malraux.

Lear Levin - American filmmaker - "Muktir Gaan" film was mainly based on his footage. Editing neatly done by late Tareque Masud.

Please share on that, anyone. Though I still can remember ... we little kids were taken to the airport street [in front of PM's office] to greet Marshal Tito waving small BD and Yugoslav flag, chanting something in Yugoslav that we were taught.

I cant remember the exact year but it was few years later of our independent. Back then Bangobondho and Tito had warm friendly relation between them as I heard.

Learned something new from PA today - India was the First Nation to give Recognition to Bangladesh!

Prothom-alo today
http://www.prothom-alo.com/detail/da...06/news/206848

Myanmar Jan 13, 1972 - surprising
Nepal - 16 Jan, 1972 - not surprising

Thats one of very important question, such as... what was the stand of OIC and other Muslim block towards our liberation, what kind of propaganda they were feeded by Pakistan, for which not a single Muslim country bother to show us anykind of support. Finally, the question come why Bongobondhu had to give up the trial of 195 Pakistani war criminal, once which was agreed among Bangladesh, India, Pkistan with the support from Rassia. Someone who has detail knowledge on this regard should shed some light.
