PCL Sharjah
Guys - I will be attending most games at the PCL tournament in Sharjah and will also get to meet a lot of the players as my cousin owns a team.
I will have internet access so let me know if you need any info regarding the tournament while I'm there.

I got one, Is owning a team actually profitable? or just a way for corporations to familiarize themselves to consumers?

Thanks. And please find out how the owners get revenue. Do they get a cut of ticket sales? Or a cut of TV rights? I'm asking because this could be good information to emulate for the NCL T 20 and hopefully the NCL 4 day competition as well, for those potential investors who are browsing Banglacricket.com (not me though).

True but think of it, atleast they are sponsoring our cricket and without this money where would Bangladesh cricket be now?? Every player we produced so far in our country came to limelight, was able to exhibit their talent is through playing Dhaka league cricket.

Well I wouldn't call it "bragging rights" but yes, this isn't a financial investment. It's all for fun and the team owners don't get any revenue. It's great exposure for the companies they own and also great fun as they all either played cricket in the past or are true fans of the sport.

The questions I had and your experience, you can combine them and right an article. I am sure it will be at the front page of BC.

If possible please tell tournament committee to take some action against ATN for such a poor broadcasting. This type of broadcasting will decrease popularity of cricket in Bangladesh.

I guess the sole purpose of broadcasting these matches by ATN is to make money. Too many ads, except for the third match of the day. I watched the second half of the last match yesterday whilst Sakib;s team was batting and there were not too many interruptions.
It is very tedious to watch the first and second matches which is laced with Ads every ball, so never watch them.

why is it not being played in Bangladesh? Why Sharjah? The crowd turnout seems to be pretty poor, I am sure more exposure of the companies would have been gained if it had been held in Bangladesh plus increased revenue

Grounds were not available for the tournament. Apparently BCB need time to renovate them for the world cup. The tournament being held in Sharjah isn't good for anyone. Was a huge hassle organising it.

This tournament shall be remembered as one of the worst organized tournaments of modern day cricket. I can list 101 reasons, but some of the main issues were:
1. Half of the teams & most of the organizers didnt reach Sharjah on the opening day.
2. Ultimately the tournament had to be umpired by Paki umpires as ours didnt get visa till the end.
3. There was no publicity of the event in UAE, word of mouth and Bangladesh news papers were the only way for people to know that there is a tournament.
4. No communication & coverage with local media, even on the final day the local channels didnt cover it in their sports news.
5. Tournament started and the opening ceremony was held after that.
6. Due to shortage of time, there were three matches every day, matches went upto almost 2 am local time.
7. Even if you passed through the stadium side, there was no sign of such a tournament, no banner, no poster.. as if a hidden tournament was taking place.
8. Poor attendance, and the people atended were mostly on free passes, every official had a quota of 2/3 vip passes, so they distributed it probably even more, every person I met who watched a match, was on free pass.
9. It was just an invissible tournament in Sharjah, as if some thieves were behind it and was scared to publicize the issue.
.................
.................
I happened to be in UAE, during the tournament, except for a Bangla food restaurant, who got the food contract in stadium, it was hard to know what's happening in Sharjah. This tournament has failed to achieve anything IMO, neither it could earn money nor could drive the Mass young Bangladeshis of UAE to the stadium and inspire them to play cricket. The organizing abilities and local communication is a huge failure, What's the purpose of such tournaments, which only lowers your nation !! Could have been better in Bangladesh, atleast it could inspire some kids to pick up bat and ball.
