Default Remembering Manjural Islam Rana and Sajjadul Hasan

BanglaCricket remembers Manjural Islam Rana who died in a tragic road accident in Khulna on 16 March 2007 at the age of 22. He is unfortunately the youngest Test player to die.

To honor his contributions for Bangladesh cricket, Banglacricket earlier announced the "Manjural Rana Cricketer of the year award". We officially opened the voting for BanglaCricket awards in 16 different categories in earlier this year. Now we are announcing the official results. Members have selected Mohammad Ashraful for the "Manjural Rana Award" for his outstanding achievement in 2007.

The best domestic cricketer award is named after the memory of Sajjadul Hasan Setu who also died in the same unfortunate accident. He was a very capable first class cricketer. Members have selected Alok Kapali for the "Sajjadul Hasan Award" for his all-round domestic performance in 2007.

Congratulations to the winners. This year the awards do not carry any cash prize and only involves a certificate.

BanglaCricket and all its members are paying tributes to the departed souls of Manjural Islam Rana and Sajjadul Hasan Setu. To mark the death anniversary, we are officially announcing the BanglaCricket Awards 2007.

Rana's family is still in deepest sorrow. His elder brother, Mazhar was my class mate in university and is a very close friend. The center point of their family was Rana. Rana's father is a cancer patient and is in long term treatment. The youngest brother is still a student.

Rana has been an a wonderful boy. Unlike most of the players who has access in national team camp, he was very much sober and gentle. Used to give salam whenever we met. He has been a devoted muslim and used to pray regularly 5 times a day. He used to give all his earning to his father. It was a pleasure to have such a wonderful younger brother.

Whenever i talk with Mazhar and his other family members, i feel what type of a vacuum is created in their family after the accident!!!

Those who prays regularly please pray specially for Rana tomorrow after your regular prayer. Those who don't pray regularly please try to pray for the wonderful boy at least tomorrow.

Thank you Miraz. Just writing in another thread I remember today is the first anniversary of their death. Rana probably one of the rare breed of players who was drop after winning two consecutive MoM and definitely the most unglamorous (remember he did not have talent tag) thus least fan favorite. His deeds were rarely appreciated but failures were inflated. After Rubu I think I was his biggest fan.
Sleep in peace My Friend and Thank you for all those wonderful memory.

May Allah Subhanatala give them 'magfirat' turn their 'Kabar' into garden of Jannat.

May their family have the strength to bear the loss.

I as a BD cricket lover still can not absorb the shock of their loss.

Rana's loss is still unrecoverable.

Is it possible to raise a fund for their families? I think this would be a good support for them.

I didn't know that his father is in long-term care.

This calls for the possibility of another fund-raising activity that we can have. $10 from each of our pockets might make many things possible for the family of a cricketer that we all miss.

I hope and pray that Rana and Sajjad find peace, and that Allah gives his family the strength to fight the tough time easily.

I had the pleasure of meeting KMI Rana, the scrappy, always improving young International cricketer, and the PRIVILEGE of meeting Rana, the extraordinary human being.

Smiling, humble and generous to a fault, he will be remembered by all those he touched, often by simply being with us. Be it his family or large circle of friends and fellow cricketers, he always gave more than he never really asked for. Rare people like Rana indeed make this world a better place.

I believe like most people who got to know him - not a very difficult or time-consuming feat because with Rana, you always got EXACTLY what you saw – I too was heartbroken by the loss, and still cannot recall those feelings without a tear or two.

I felt he was unfairly dropped from the squad as did he also. But instead of bitching and moaning and being stuck inside his own depression, I saw him work twice as hard on his overall game, especially his slip fielding, and seek comfort by continuing to help other young cricketers with whatever he had and whenever he had it.

May GOD continue to bless his departed soul.

Thank you Miraz for this thread …
