তামিম ইকবালের মনে খুব দুঃখ। এ আর বলার কী আছে! মাত্র ৫ রানের জন্য সেঞ্চুরি না পেলে কোন ব্যাটসম্যানের মনে না দুঃখ বাসা বাঁধবে!

অস্ট্রেলিয়ায় আসার আগেই বলে এসেছেন, বিশ্বকাপে বাংলাদেশের পক্ষে প্রথম সেঞ্চুরিটি করতে চান। এত কাছে গিয়েও তা করতে না পারার দুঃখ তো পোড়াবেই। তবে তামিমকে কুরে কুরে খাচ্ছে যে দুঃখ, সেটি সেঞ্চুরি পাওয়া না-পাওয়ার সঙ্গে সম্পর্কিত নয়। দু-তিনটি ম্যাচে খারাপ করলেই সবাই যেভাবে তাঁর দিকে সমালোচনার তির ছুড়তে শুরু করে, সেটি তামিমকে খুব কষ্ট দেয়।

এই গত নভেম্বরেই বাংলাদেশের সর্বশেষ দুটি টেস্টে সেঞ্চুরি করেছেন। জিম্বাবুয়ের বিপক্ষে ওয়ানডে সিরিজেও একটা ৭৬ আছে। অথচ বিশ্বকাপে এসে দুটি ম্যাচে রান না পাওয়াতেই তাঁকে নিয়ে প্রশ্ন উঠে যাওয়াটা তামিমকে যারপরনাই ব্যথিত করেছে। পেশাদার খেলোয়াড়েরা এসব ক্ষেত্রে নিজের চারপাশে একটা বলয় তৈরি করে নেন, যাতে বাইরের কিছু স্পর্শ না করে। তামিমও চেষ্টা করেন, কিন্তু পারেন না। মানুষ হিসেবে একটু বেশিই আবেগপ্রবণ, স্পর্শকাতরও। কয়েক দিন আগেই কথায় কথায় বলছিলেন, একেক জনের ধরন একেক রকম। সাকিবকে যেমন কোনো কিছুই স্পর্শ করে না, আমি আবার সমালোচনায় খুব কাতর হয়ে পড়ি।

কোনো ব্যাটসম্যান ৯৫ রানে আউট হলে ৯৫ রান করার আনন্দের চেয়ে আর ৫ রান করতে না পারার দুঃখটাই বড় হয়ে ওঠে। কাল ম্যাচ শেষে ফুরফুরে তামিমকে দেখে মনে হলো, তাঁর কাছে প্রথমটিই বড়। এতে যে সমালোচনার ঝড়টা আপাতত থামবে। পেতে পেতেও সেঞ্চুরি হারিয়ে ফেলার হতাশার কথা বলার সময়ও মুখে তাই হাসি ফুটিয়ে তুলতে পারলেন। এত বড় একটা স্কোর তাড়া করে দল জিতেছে, এটাও অবশ্য একটা কারণ।
টেস্টে ৬টি সেঞ্চুরি আছে, ৩৮.০৯ গড়ে ২,৭৪৩ রান। ওয়ানডেতে সাকিবের পর বাংলাদেশের দ্বিতীয় ব্যাটসম্যান হিসেবে কাল চার হাজার রান পূর্ণ করলেন। সাকিবের চেয়ে মাত্র একটি ইনিংসই বেশি লাগল।

বাংলাদেশের ক্রিকেট ইতিহাসের সেরা ওপেনারের আসনে প্রায় তর্কাতীত তাঁর অধিষ্ঠান। অথচ একটু খারাপ করলেই চারপাশ থেকে এমন সব কথাবার্তা উঠতে শুরু করে যেন বাংলাদেশের রাস্তাঘাটে হাজারো তামিম ইকবাল ঘুরে বেড়াচ্ছে। এসব দেখে-টেখে সংবাদ সম্মেলনে এক সাংবাদিক তাই প্রশ্নটা করলেন, একটু খারাপ করলেই তামিমকে নিয়ে সমালোচনাটা একটু বেশিই হয় কি না। তামিমের উত্তরে অভিযোগের বদলে অনুনয়ের সুর, ‘আমি পেশাদার ক্রিকেটার। খারাপ করলে সমালোচনা হবেই, এটা আমি মেনেই নিই। তবে আমি শুধু একটাই অনুরোধ করতে চাই। সবাই যেন একটু ধৈর্য ধরে। আমি তো প্রতি ইনিংসেই ভালো করতে চাই। প্রতি ম্যাচেই চেষ্টা করি যেন এক শ করতে পারি। কিন্তু সেটি তো আর সম্ভব নয়। খারাপ সময়ে সমালোচনার বদলে সমর্থন পেলে ফিরে আসাটা সহজ হয়।’

সতীর্থদের কাছ থেকে তা সব সময়ই পান। এবার যেমন সবচেয়ে বেশি পেয়েছেন অধিনায়ক মাশরাফি বিন মুর্তজার কাছ থেকে। পাশে বসে থাকা মাশরাফির প্রতি তাই বারবার কৃতজ্ঞতা জানালেন, ‘দুই ম্যাচে রান না পেয়ে আমি খুব ভেঙে পড়েছিলাম। মাশরাফি ভাই আমাকে অনেক সাহায্য করেছেন। আজ ব্যাটিং করতে নামার সময় বলেছেন, তুই সময় নিয়ে খেল। ৬০ বলে ২০ রান করলেও কোনো সমস্যা নেই। শেষ পর্যন্ত যদি তুই ৬০/৭০/৮০ রান করতে পারিস, আমরা ঠিকই ম্যাচ জিতব। এটা শুনে আমি অনেক নির্ভার হয়ে খেলতে পেরেছি।’

তামিমকে এমন ‘স্বাধীনতা’ দিয়ে দেওয়ার কারণটা পরে জানা গেল মাশরাফির কাছ থেকে, ‘ও এমন ব্যাটসম্যান, ওর উইকেটে থাকা মানেই প্রতিপক্ষ বোলারদের চাপে থাকা। কারণ ওরা জানে, তামিম যেকোনো মুহূর্তে ব্যাটিংয়ের গিয়ার বদলাতে পারে।’ ব্যর্থ হলেই সমালোচনা—এই ভয়েই কি না তামিমকে তামিমের রূপে ইদানীং কমই দেখা যায়। কালকের ৯৫-ও ঠিক তামিমীয় নয়। তার পরও স্ট্রাইক রেট এক শর কাছাকাছি। তবে এত বড় একটা স্কোর তাড়া করতে নেমে আরেকটু আক্রমণাত্মক রূপই তো প্রত্যাশিত ছিল। তামিমের গেম প্ল্যানটাই যে ছিল অন্য রকম, ‘কোচ আমাকে বলেছেন, রান তাড়া করছ ভাবার দরকার নেই। আমরা প্রথমে ব্যাটিং করলে যেভাবে খেলতাম, সেভাবেই খেলো।’

এর আগে বাংলাদেশের সবচেয়ে বেশি রান তাড়া করে জয়ের রেকর্ডটি বলতে গেলে তামিমের একক কৃতিত্বধন্য। ২০০৯ সালে জিম্বাবুয়ের ৩১২ রান টপকে জয় এসেছিল তামিমের ১৫৪ রানের ইনিংসটির কল্যাণে। সেই স্মৃতি কাল অনুপ্রাণিত করেছে তাঁকে, ‘এর আগেও আমরা তিন শ তাড়া করেছি। আর এখানে তো উইকেট ছিল খুব ভালো। আউটফিল্ডও খুব দ্রুত, মারলেই বল উড়ে গেছে।’

স্কটল্যান্ডের বিপক্ষে জয়টি তামিমের কাছে আরও তৃপ্তিকর হয়ে উঠছে তা সম্মিলিত প্রচেষ্টায় এসেছে বলে, ‘আজ আমাদের ব্যাটিং ছিল পুরো দলীয় প্রচেষ্টা। আমি বেশি রান করেছি ঠিকই; কিন্তু রিয়াদ ভাই, মুশফিক, সাকিব, সাব্বির সবারই অবদান আছে এই জয়ে। আমাদের দল এমন নয় যে, একজনই ভালো খেলে এত বড় রান তাড়া করে ফেলবে।’

ইংল্যান্ডের বিপক্ষে তাঁর রেকর্ড খুব ভালো। সেই ইংল্যান্ডই এখন কোয়ার্টার ফাইনালে ওঠার বৈতরণিতে পরিণত। তামিম অবশ্য শুধু ইংল্যান্ডকে টার্গেট করে চাপটা বাড়িয়ে তুলতে চান না, ‘আমি যা বুঝি, বাকি দুটি ম্যাচের একটি জিততেই হবে, যদি না ইংল্যান্ড আফগানিস্তানের কাছে হেরে যায়। এটুকু বলতে পারি, ইংল্যান্ড ম্যাচের জন্য এর চেয়ে ভালো প্রস্তুতি আর হতে পারত না।’

আগামী সোমবার অ্যাডিলেডে ইংল্যান্ডের বিপক্ষে মহারণে নির্ভার তামিম ইকবালকে পাওয়া—বাংলাদেশের জন্যও এর চেয়ে ভালো আর কী হতে পারত!

only because of Fitness we are not getting tons of runs from these two guys. as soon as they hit 50/60 both SHakib and tamim gets cramps (even in nz weather!)... and they become lazy and miss the straight ball. But look at them instead of trying fixing that issue they are just becoming cry baby...

Tamim, remember the Bangladesh culture, people will tell on you because they care and are fans and want you to do well. Take it as a responsibility to atleast improve your fitness which even you know is a bad. Look at Mashrafe for example.

But the fans also need to be responsible, the way we make heroes and make them fall flat is unacceptable. We either criticize too much or praise them too highly. Time to stop that. Our cricketers are surely looking at other teams and going hold on, why can't our fans be the same. Psychology people, psychology.

The reason why people criticize him are simple. What does he mean by 2-3 bad performances resulting fans to be upset. Fans are upset because he his a talented batsman who should be having a far better average than he currently does. Yes he scored big runs yesterday but against afghans he scored 19 from 4 on a flat pitch and afterwards a duck against Lanka chasing 334 when we badly needed a contribution from him.

Agree with the point about wanting him to be his best that others people have alluded to in their posts. When my son gets a 95 out of 100 in his test and I find that the mistakes were careless ones that he could have readily spotted if he had only reviewed the whole thing before turning it in, and there was time for multiple reviews, what do I say? "Oh son, jolly delightful - a 95!"? No, I tell him "good job but can you tell me why you didn't review it even once?"

Likewise TIK - your ability is that of a 55 average player. A kid who scores a fast 100 in one of the fastest Old Trafford pitch, against Anderson, Broad et al in their pomp should not be averaging 30. He should NOT be cramping up in the 30 over mark in temperate conditions. Less Biryani and chain smoking to go with his undoubted hard work in the nets would do wonders for him.

তাহলে জানবে কিভাবে যে আপনি সমর্থন করলেন না সমালোচনা? সমালোচনার অনুপস্থিতি, সমর্থন নয়, ভাই। সে চাচ্ছে যে, ২/৩ টা 🐣🐣 মারলেও তামিম বন্দনা চলতে থাকতে হবে। তাকে অনুপ্রেরনা দিতে থাকতে হবে। তেমন বেশী চাহিদা আসলে না। সামান্য চাওয়া। উৎপল শুভ্র চালু জিনিষ, না বুঝে লেখেনাই হেডলাইন। এই সামান্য চাহিদা, অনেক বেদনাদায়ক হতে পারে।

I don't get it. Clearly he is a sensitive soul. So why isn't he sensitive to the fact that his lack of fitness (hence the euphemism of Fatty McFatty) is what drives fans nuts. And you know why Tamim? Fitness is the best example of professional sportsman's desire to excel. Everyone can be fit if they want. Not everyone can lace a cover drive on the up to a 90mph ball. So the common man sees your moobs, your bhoori, your cramping and slow singles when you hit a 50 and wonder whether you take the game seriously. Notice no one questions Mash's commitment after he adopted a fitness regime (no, not rehab, I'm talking overall fitness). Likewise - try it. Try looking like other 20 year old athletes and see if people jump on your failures as strongly.

Professional players should stop complaining about fans and crowd support and just focus on performance. With his talent and the fact that we mostly play at home grounds, he should have had a 40+ average at least. Anyways, he is still only 25/26 years old, he can turn things around if he works on fitness and mental strength.

Lol. Sorry Mufi. Professional sports is not the place for whiners. Not the place for looking for sympathy. Just buckle down, grow a pair or TWO, grow a thick skin, and do your thing.
