Default Intercontinental cup - Bangladesh A team?

Zimbabwe are sending an A team to compete in the 2009-2010 ICC Intercontinental cup, my question is should Bangladesh send one as well? imo they should, it would give some youngsters some good longer version experience.

the other teams might find that a bit disrespectful....although they may find an A team disrespectful anyway. the reason i brought this up now is because with zimbabwe sending a team it should be easier for BD to get a team in the tournament.

sorry mate didn't realise, the mods can merge the threads if they want, the situation is slightly different now as i don't think at the time of your earlier thread that A teams of test sides had competed in the tournament (i may be wrong since i know basically nothing about the history of this tournament).

i am only concerned with the cost of such action...can BCB afford this?

i would send a mixture of so called "rejects" and talented youth:

my preliminary squad:

Nafees Iqbal
Imrul Kayes
Marshall Ayub
Ziaur Rahman
Arafat Salauddin
Tushar Imran
Arafat Sunny
Elias Sunny
Tareq Aziz
Shamsur Rahman
Mithun Ali
Mohammad Shahzada
Mohammad Sharif
Faisal Hossain
Nasir Hossain
Farhad Hossain
Dolar Mahmud
Hannan Sarkar
Shruwadi Shuvo
Imtiaz Hossain
Shafaq-al-Zabir
Jahurul Islam omi
Shaheen Hossain
Shagir Hossain
Sajidul Islam
Mahbubul Alam robin(has yet to assert himself in the international scene)
Saqlain Sajib
Talha Zobair
Mohammad Ashraful (he may as well as end up captaining the A-team after being deported from the national squad)

i am sure someone else can come up with a squad 10 times better than this, just some names running through the back of my mind atm...

Definitly we should send. We can have a gambling by sending our ICL cricketers (Specialy Aftab and Kapali) to judge their current form.

What's the point Labeling it 'A' team and loading it with national team players. Wastage all the way.

Definetely! Good idea Gowza. I think Ashraful should be "rehabilitated" (according to Gazi Ashraf) through this tournament. It will be a chance to incorporate the ICL players into mainstream cricket as well.

Shahriar Nafees
Nafis Iqbal*
Nazimuddin
Mohammad Ashraful
Alok Kapali
Aftab Ahmed
Suhrawady Shuvo
Dhiman Ghosh+
Ziaur Rahman
Sajidul Islam
Robiul Islam

Johirul Islam+
Foysal Hossain
Arafat Sunny
Talha Zubaer

Best way to give our young and the rejects some much needed international action.

young-uns, yes. rejects, no.

no point in giving JO, hannan, tapash, etc a spot on the playing XI. number of matches is minimal and so this doesn't help. they could light the IC up, and it wouldn't change anything, barring a very rare exception.

i'd rather give guys like rajin (who may even warrant a side in our test XI) nafees, ex-DWs, and U19/academy boys a run.

in fact, i think the ICC needs to expand the IC to include the top 6-8 associates, as well as an A team from each of the test nations. this helps everyone out, more so the lower ranked teams, including us.

our initial 15 man team could like this:

1 Nafees Iqbal
2 SN
3 Aftab
4 Rajin
5 Alok
6 Farhad
7 Shuvo
8 Sajidul
9 Robin
10 Talha
11 Zia

X Tapash
X ???
X ???
X ???

Good idea. Noticed that the Deathly Hallows (Ash, Aftab, Alok) are in quite a few of the proposed squad. Ah, the turn of tides cometh.

Oooohhh I just love it!

Seriously, I think we should send 2 teams to it! BD-A and the BD National! I bet BD National will come back with 'zero' win and say,"we played bed kriket! Inshallah, next time we win the toss!" In the tournament they will lose to all the teams including BD-A...!
And if BD-A pulls it off being the champ, BD National, "They are our boys, same boys, their honor our honor, the pitch didn't help us this time and we played very bed kriket, we played much rash shots, 4 balls were hard to come by, next time obviously we will try to go to the next round and gain more experience and in future we will play good cricket, 20/20 cricket is obviously anyone's game!"

they've broken it into two divisions, scotland, ireland, canada, kenya, netherlands, zimbabwe and afghanistan will play in the top division whilst UAE, namibia, bermuda and uganda will play in the 2nd division.
