I'm surprised no one has commented.

I didn't even know we were building our own satellite.

Don’t think this was the case here, although it didn’t launch today due to problem with ground support system, they are using Falcon 9, which is a new and the most powerful rocket yet.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.the...u-1-watch-live

Indeed it is a big deal, many, including me never thought Bangladesh would launch it’s own satellite today but I was disappointed to see some Bangladeshi wearing suits or Mujib coat under the hot sun, yelling at each other, smoking cigarettes in public and roaming around the park invading personal space among the other spectators, at one point commentator had to aurge them to show courtesy.

Hope to see a successful launch tomorrow and better show from my beloved countrymen.

Quite an achievement to have a satellite in space.

Why is it called a Lunch?

It is indeed a great achievement. I also never thought Bangladesh would ever be able to launch a space satellite in my lifetime. I am extremely proud of Bongobondhu-1. Wishing for a successful shoot today!

Thank you, Captain Thinking Tank for the insight and the details from the launching event yesterday.

Allhamdullilah this is an amazing achievement and I also never thought BD would send up a satellite so soon. May this InshahAllah help our country progress.

Awami League living up to their promise of a more DEEZTAL Bangladesh.

I am waiting to hear some ludicrous Awami League fan claiming it was Bongo Bondhu's life long dream to send up a satellite in space.

I hear it is financed by Beximco. Are not they the biggest loan defaulter in the country?
Why won't they repay rather playing "drone-drone rocket-rocket"?!

This launch has a ton of hype behind it in the space enthusiast world because its the first time the Block 5 variant of the Falcon 9 rocket will be used. It will be SpaceX's most powerful rocket yet (the Falcon Heavy doesn't count, because its basically 3 Falcon 9's strapped together), and their final rocket design before moving to the next generation of rocket- the ridiculously exciting BFR.

How much input did we have in the building of the satellite? Or did we just only supply the funds

Alhamdulillah. That's a great milestone which should have happened earlier.

I don't think we have had much input in building of this satellite, but we will control the satellite fully from 3rd year onward. We have trained personnel to do that from the ground station in Gazipur. Baby steps.

What a feat of engineering this is. What orbit is it, LEO or Geosynchronous.

It was a huge deal. Much bigger than I expected.

On Friday, I saw at work Bloomberg TV livecasting the event. Today the video is trending # 1 globally.

I don’t know how Hasina govt got hold of SpaceX. But these are the positive exposure our country needs. You don’t expect these type of vision and collaboration from our govt officials and so was pleasantly surprised.

Finally the launch center was only a hour drive from me. Would have went if I knew it was that big of a deal.
