Default BD A put up a brave fight

From Dailystarnews.com

After two heavy defeats Bangladesh A went down fighting in a high-scoring thriller against the Kenya Cricket Association (KCA) in their third and final limited-overs match at the Ruaraka Sports Club ground in Nairobi yesterday.
Chasing a massive KCA total of 303-6, the visitors fought gallantly before finishing 12 runs short of the target.

Openers Rafiqul and one-down Javed Omar led the valiant chase laying the platform for the second wicket.

Rafiqul, playing overseas for the first time, scored a dazzling 112 and experienced national opener Javed contributed 90.

The tourists were in sight of a victory when they were comfortably placed at 256 for three in 44 overs. But disaster struck at that point and the second string national side let slip a wonderful opportunity to end the dismal one-day campaign on a high note.

Earlier, electing to bat after winning the toss, KCA captain Steve Tikolo blazed his way to 168.

The victory completed a clean sweep for the home team. They won the first one-day by 92 runs and scored a nine-wicket win in the second match on Saturday.

Although Sanwar Hossain's men lost all three matches, their Sunday's performance was in sharp contrast to their dismal show only a day ago when they were shot out for only 90.

Bangladesh A will play their last tour match, a three-day affair, against the same selection starting at the same venue tomorrow.

Default 256 for 3 after 44 overs

In the end we reached 291. Not bad eh ? The performance has been all over the charts (no results though) with the 90 in the second match, 226 in the first and now this 291.
We need to groom some effective bowlers for our second string teams. Kenya always plays DHUMA DHUM so it's no surprise that they scored this many runs against such weak bowling but I still can't accept it.
Golla came back well with two good innings and Rafiqul as on opener has scored lots of runs in the league matches and for the A team. The lower order missed experience, A Rafique or a Shujon could have pulled it off. They needed 48 runs off 36 balls with 7 overs in hand. Still, good job reaching 291. I bet we wet some pants there.

Default Kenya A

If Bangladesh were to play Kenya A with only a couple of their reg players (like we have Golla and Ash in the A team), the results would have been the same. Off course, I don't know if Kenya has any extra players besides this 12-18.

This was a great build up for the Kenyan team for the three nation tournament with Australia and Pakistan and the Champions trophy.

I am worried about our boys in the tournament. Apart from the guys playing in Kenya, the other national players are getting little or no match practice.

Default KCB

They have shown time and again the maturity to schedule important matches for their players. Sandip Patel (I believe) have been the coach of the team for the last 4-6 years. That goes to show their patience as well and as far as I know, Kenya has a great chance of becoming the 11th test nation by June next year and I look forward to it because they will be our first TEST triumph. We might lose the series but we will WIN a match.

Kenyan players play upto their
potential regularly. But the
frustrating point is Bangladesh
very seldom play to a level
they are capable of. One player
score good, three other
score zero. Why this mental
block?

I think the Kenyan players have
less mental pressure, as they
don't have a large cricket fan as
Bangladesh, whose great expection
put tremendous pressure on the
players.

I think Tehsin's suggestions should
be followed. Bangladesh A and under-19
teams should play lot of cricket. This
should allow the talented players
to sharpen their skills, build
up their mental strength and adjust
to different conditions.

It is not fair to ruin the talents like
Ash, Taposh, Marsi etc by including them in the test team without proper
practical training.

May be for the next 5 years, we should
reduce the number of Test series and
increase tours for A and under-19 teams.

Default SAME AGAIN

There had been no tournaments like the SAARC trophy (last one was just before the 1997 ICC tournament) since getting One Day status.

In those tournaments, Bangladesh National Team used to play 50 over matches with India A, Pakistan A and SriLanka A teams.

Since Bangladesh getting test status, Nepal should have been following this tradition, yet so far they have not. Also instead, Bangladesh Cricket Board should ORGANIZE SAARC tournaments that would be consisting of 4 or 5 day matches with these teams - while Bangladesh team should be the Bangladesh A team.

And we also see that two test teams' A sides or U-19 sides play 'Unofficial Test Matches' with each other.

Tehsin, I don't think Kenyan team was that much scared after watching Bangladesh A team 'putting up a brave fight'. They were always confident that they were gonna win and so they did.

In fact, watching the scores, I now firmly believe that what this A team was trying to do was just copy their national teams of the past.

We have already seen the results of the first two one day matches. They were exactly the same as in 1997 One Day tournament. There was no third One Day International back then in 97.

But there was one match in 1994 ICC trophy when Bangladesh National team lost to Kenya by 13 runs or something.

[It only indicates that since 1994 and 1997, nothing has improved dramatically or domestically - infrastructure-wise for Bangladesh.]

Here is the scorecard:

Default Notice this

Atfer seeing your last two posts about the repeat 'scores' I was expecting this.

Notice something here, none of the players from our ICC Trophy 1993/94 team have managed to stay on the team wih Bulbul, Akram and Moni being the last ones to go this season. However, Otieno (30), Odumbe (33), Tikolo (31), and Suji (31) are still the nucleus (sp) of the Kenyan team. Youtake 'em out and the Kenya does not have a national team.

Other notable players in the team are as follows:
Hitesh Modi (31), Ravindu Shah (30), Onyongo (29), Angara (31), Odoyo (24), Tony Suji (26), Brijal Patel (25). The younger ones (below 30) being the less influential ones and pretty much there to make up the eleven.

This is where Bangladesh holds the key to forge ahead as a test nation. Between the two, Kenya will be in trouble once the 30-something players start to retire. Their strenght however lies in the teamwork and solid character of the more experienced players.

I will look forward to the BD A vs the REAL KCA team to get a glimpse at the future of Kenyan cricket against ours.

Before anyone gets to excited about our prospects or too eager to write me off, let me also add that Kenya has a good 3/4 years to pick up a future Tikolo, Ravindu, Suji, Angara ......

Ravindu Shah (a specialist batsman and a successfuly makeshift opener) and Thomas Odoyo (a quick bowler and turning out to be a specialist middle order batsman) are enough to win matches against Bangladesh's Ashrafuls and Rokons.

KCA XI dismiss Bangladesh ‘A’ by 12 runs
By Alari Alare

Skipper Steve Tikolo smashed over one and a half century as the Kenya Cricket Association (KCA) XI beat Bangladesh “A” by 12 runs in a one-day match at the Ruaraka Sports Club.

Tikolo shot 168 runs and build a big third wicket partnership of 155 with Thomas Odoyo (55), to push the score from 47 for two to 202 for three, before Mohammad Anwar Hossain caught him off S.

Al-Zabir’s delivery in the 40th over. During his stay on the crease, Tikolo visited the boundaries 18 times and towered a six from the 152 balls which came his way.

Kenya on winning the toss piled up 303 runs, for the loss of six wickets in 50 overs proving elusive for the Bagladesh bowlers.

Topas Baishya claimed four Kenyan wickets including successive wickets of Kennedy Obuya, Ravindu Shah, Steve Tikolo and Maurice Odumbe during his 10 overs bowling spell.

In reply, Bangladesh posted 291 for the loss of nine wickets in the allotted 50 overs with their opener Javed Omar and number three batsman Rafiqul Islam putting up a second wicket partnership of 201 runs in the game.

The partnership was however broken in the 39th over when Jimmy Kamande sent Omar back to the pavilion

The partnership pushed Bangladesh score to 223 from a mere 22, resulting from the fall of the first wicket (Hannan Sarkar) who was bowled by Joseph Angara.

Bangladesh batted extremely well and at one time had the game in their hands.

Angara stole the show, claiming four Bangladesh wickets, including Sarkar, skipper Mohammed Sanwar Hossain, Topash Baishya and Anwar Hossain to complete his bowling analysis of 4 for 42 in eight overs.

Today is a rest day as the matches resume tomorrow when the visitors face-off with the KCA Development team in a three-day match at Ruaraka Sports Club.

KCA XI score third win over Bangladesh 'A'
By PETER NJENGA
Captain Steve Tikolo hit unmatched 168 runs to lead Kenya Cricket Association XI to a deserved 12-run victory over Bangladesh 'A' at Ruaraka Sports Club yesterday.

His individual contribution and another 55 from Thomas Odoyo raised Kenya's tally to 303 for six in 50 overs.

Bangladesh replied with 291 for nine in their 50 overs during this match held under overcast conditions.

Kenya won the toss and elected to bat with openers Ravindu Shah and Kennedy Otieno Obuya scoring 16 and 17 runs respectively before being dismissed by T. Baishya who also sent Tikolo and Maurice Odumbe (23) packing.

In reply, Rafiqul Islam hit the second century of the day with a tally of 112 runs followed by Javaid Omar (90).

Islam re-discovered his form after a poor showing of 18 during Saturday's match between both teams at the same venue.

In comparison, Obuya had an indifferent outing compared to Saturday's when he recorded an unbeaten 58 (which included eight boundaries) in his unbroken second wicket partnership of 78 with Hitesh Modi.

The morale boosting victory was a follow up of Saturday's huge nine-wicket victory Kenya recorded in this series, a build-up for the high profile triangular between the "Tusker Boys", world champions Australia and Pakistan which starts on Thursday at the Nairobi Gymkhana.

Default Inquilab reports

* Sanwar Hossain will be included in the tour of South Africa for sure.

* Nannu's fitness and fielding is the only reason for not including him - either Physio (Trainer?!?) Gavin Benjafield or John Gloster says that his fitness and fielding is very poor.

* If I include my word and the words of Inquilab reports then - As per the evidence that I have shown on this messege board - the scorecards - that our previous national teams in 1994 and in 1997 were - Para Mohollar - team. (Exact words of Inquilab is: The Kenyan team has lowered the standard of our Bangladesh A - the second string side of a test playing nation - team into - para mohollar team) - which in my words a little bit of exaggeration.

Ektu ghurie bolle - It is the infrustructure, the pitch condition - everything off the field that are required to play the game of cricket - of the current Bangladesh is such that nothing has improved since 1994 and even 1997 and so both our national team then and our BD A team now were and are para mohollar team.

Source: http://www.dailyinqilab.com/august26/pdf/s1.pdf

* Number of tours abroad by Bangladesh A team will be decreased.

* BCB president is not happy himself regarding the performance of the two Pakistani coaches, but he will come to a decision after watching them for 6 more months.

* BCB president and the selectors are regretting for announcing the names of the ICC Champions squad so early - stating also that players who are already in the ICC Champion's squad have not taken this Kenya tour seriously.

Default Players and the BCB

I think it is really good that they have a contract system based on how players do. If you cant flog them, then atleast dont feed them unless they give results.

2 PAKI coaches not good. Why. It is too soon to comment let alone evaluate them.

Default Coaches

I don't see why BCB is not happy with the two Pak coaches. While most of us weren't reallt crazy about the idea to begin it, I don't think we have any other choice at this stage. With the world cup looming, I would not make any drstic change to the management.

Coaches alone can't bring results unless he is a strong personality like Gordon. Unless BCB can manage to bring Gordon in within the next ouple of weeks, I think they could learn to keep their remarks/thoughts to themselves.

Maybe there is a bright side to it. We have no idea what's going on. What if the players are beginning to warm up to the coaches ? What if they are starting to listen and apply (ok, that 90 in th second match do not support this 'what if') themselves ?

Default Sarwar Imran

I always liked his style and was wondering what he was doing for the team now. Is he cut off from the team because he belongs to a certain political group like Saber does ?

BCB can have Sarwar work with the two Pakistani coaches and I have a feeling he will be able to get more out of the players then most folks.

Gordon was great. However, when he came to BD, he had a hungry team. Now, we have some crummy arses sitting there and picking up their fat paycheck. They did not have to perform to earn that check.

I am looking forward to the effect of the new pay system. I am not clear about how BCB wants to do these but anything that does not automatically make (most of) them rich is a good start. Players like Sumon, Pilot, Golla and Monju deserve the steady check but Ash, Rokon and others need to work for it.

I hope its what we talked about. 50,000 tk. per 50 runs or 3 wickets. 100,000 tk. per century or 5 wickets.

I still like your spanking idea over pay system. Thats bound to work.
