27 People Dead, Mostly Children, at Connecticut School Shooting; Gunman Is Dead

http://abcnews.go.com/US/27-people-d...6#.UMt9P-ToT6Q

More than two dozen people, mostly children, were shot and killed at a Newtown, Conn., elementary school this morning by a heavily armed man who was killed inside the building, federal and state sources tell ABC News.

"The shooter is deceased inside the building," Connecticut State Police spokesman Lt. Paul Vance said at a news conference. "The public is not in danger."

Authorities said the school building is now secure.

LIVE UPDATES: Newtown, Conn., School Shooting

Sources described the shooter as a 24-year-old man armed with four weapons and wearing a bullet-proof vest.

Authorities initially believed that there were two gunmen and were searching cars around the school. It is currently unclear whether there is still a suspect at large.

The massacre prompted the town of Newtown to lock down all its schools and draw SWAT teams to the school, authorities said today.

If I was a cop, I would've shot that moron's legs, arms and then step on his wounds. Wouldn't have killed him. The shooter got a very easy death

Very sad -
Lost faith in Humanity.
Humanity is dead. 122112 - need a cleansing!

1 When the sun is overthrown,
2 And when the stars fall,
3 And when the hills are moved,
4 And when the camels big with young are abandoned,
5 And when the wild beasts are herded together,
6 And when the seas rise,
7 And when souls are reunited,
8 And when the girl-child that was buried alive is asked
9 For what sin she was slain,

10 And when the pages are laid open,
11 And when the sky is torn away,
12 And when hell is lighted,
13 And when the Garden is brought nigh,
14 (Then) every soul will know what it hath made ready.
15 Oh, but I call to witness the planets,
16 The stars which rise and set,
17 And the close of night,
18 And the breath of morning
19 That this is in truth the word of an honoured messenger,
20 Mighty, established in the presence of the Lord of the Throne,
21 (One) to be obeyed, and trustworthy;
22 And your comrade is not mad.
23 Surely he beheld Him on the clear horizon.
24 And he is not avid of the Unseen.
25 Nor is this the utterance of a devil worthy to be stoned.
26 Whither then go ye ?
27 This is naught else than a reminder unto creation,
28 Unto whomsoever of you willeth to walk straight.
29 And ye will not, unless (it be) that Allah willeth, the Lord of Creation.

just came across this news couple of hours back.. I just dont have words to describe how sick I feel. Shooting Kids in an elementary school ???

My condolences to the bereaved families.

CT is suppose to be one of the safest state in US from what I heard. Will this be the wake-up call on gun control?

Apparently the guy used a .22 caliber rifle. He had ample time to clear the cartridge and reload - magazine holding round of 5.

Mournful news. But the thing that strike me more is almost 20/30 people dies everyday in Bangladesh unnaturally - murdered, lynched, politically sabotaged and in a major number in road accidents.

Incredibly sad news. Children? Really? Is that what it takes this insane mofo to show his macho?

Can't even imagine what must be going through the lives of those effected. No one gives birth to a child thinking that their baby will face death in this manner.

Evil. Pure evil.

If a gunman massacred that many children in Bangladesh (God forbid), it will have a public outcry as well. I don't know what you're talking about here - really.

The right to bear arms is so outdated and irrelevant in modern USA society. This is just an excerpt

Quote:
The National Rifle Association (NRA) and its horde of gun nuts continually crow that it's not guns that kill people but people who kill people.

Sorry, it's not a genius thought, because in truth, what people do is pull the triggers, the bullets are the actual killers. If the idea is that people are responsible and not their weapons responsible, why not put bazookas and rocket launchers and hand grenades in the hands of people to make it possible to wipe out whole buildings of people at one time? -- all of it for the sake of an obsolete and currently stupid inclusion in the Constitution of a "right to bear arms" -- a right that no longer makes any sense except to people who make money selling guns.

We outlaw the sale of many poisons because they can be used to easily kill people, but the most insidious killing devices of all, guns and bullets, are available everywhere because in the 18th century there were backwoods people killing animals for food, and because a so-called armed local militia was thought then to be a deterrent against government tyranny.

What are you talking about bhai? Care to explain? Any unnatural death is a tragedy but going into a kindergarten and killing CHILDREN is just malicious. Nothing can beat that.

Horrific and disgusting! My condolences to the families...
Unbelievable that someone out there actually thought it was okay to open fire at children---at anyone like that. The shooter clearly has mental issues,it's an act of PURE EVIL. Copycats are very possible and that is the scariest part...

I can't even begin to imagine what's going through these parents head. This hit really close to me. I live roughly an hour away from there. Who's to say my brother's school won't be next. Even after all this they won't comr up with tighter gun control laws. Matter of fact Americans are stacking up on guns like never before, since Obama got elected back in 2008 Gun stocks have been going up and up. I dout we will any change in gun control policy. I hope I'm wrong.

Saw that live. He was clearly very emotional and even held back tears.

I wonder if he feels that way before/after he orders drone strikes with high probabilities of collateral damage that often includes school children.

Great point! Does any one think of that? Does Israel? No one... no one cares

I don't have kids and thank god my parents don't have any of elementary school age. But then again shopping malls, theatres, no place is safe. There is a price for freedom, and this price is too high.

There is a reason for US to use drones instead of giving the money to Pakistan to conduct the raid. I suggest you research on that first. Secondly, children are never the target of drones, the target are the people who would kill children (malala) and destroy their schools to protect a distorted ideology....

I suggest you stop assuming I am talking out of my posterior about this issue. I have researched about drone attacks, their effectiveness, and the collateral damage (foreseen in most cases). I don't want to derail this thread, but killings of children (and 1 out of 6 killed in drone attacks ARE children) simply cannot have any justifications - regardless of whether the killers are the Taliban targeting Malala or the tech-savvy Western armies killing potential Malalas.
