Developing Cricket in six associate countries - 1
Globilizing cricket part 1
Creative ideas for development of European Cricket.
I think one way to develop European cricket countries is finding TV rights and getting money from Television.
For this the European Countries Ireland, Holland, and Scotland should play annual triseries against each other in the three different countries and there should be 10 ODIs annually in the triseries. This should be covered by a TV channel. For say a new TV channel should be formed with union of these countries and should cover the ODI matches played in the Ireland, Holland, and Scotland. What I would suggest is a 24 hour channel of cricket for European cricket like have in soceer. this 24 hour channel should cover all the ODIs, club cricket, domestic cricket, and all types of cricket played in Scotland, Ireland, and Holland. Also, they should have interviews, prematch analysismatches and post match analysis. Good marketting and globilizing the games played all over helps to bring more money and helps quick development.
Next I would like to see Museum of Cricket in which there would be audio, video, posters of current and past players all over the world.
Another way of promoting developing countries is having trump cards, Tshirts, team materials, mugs, etc having players pictures.
Also, it would be nice to have seperate coaching schools for batting, bowling, and fielding in some country of Europe and different players giving tips and coaching to the students from age 8 to 25.
Next increase the days of matches for European developing countries. say, they should play 15 to 20 ODIs per year against themself and test playing nation. Next they should play around 5 test like 5 day matches, next they should play five 4 day matches. like wise a total of 20 + 25 + 20 =65 to 70 days of international cricket against the other developing countries in Europe and other countries like Kenya, Canada, etc. Also, each country should play 4 to 5 ODIs against test nation countries(2 to 3 countries a year).
like Australia-England, England-Pakistan there should a good opposite team formed for the European countries like Scotland-Ireland or Holland- Ireland and they should play more cricket.

Creative ideas for development of Kenya, Bangladesh, and Zimbabwe.
One way for development is to play more games say 25 ODIs in a year. They should play atleast 225 to 250 ODIs in a span of 10 years not 125 to 150ODIs in 10 years.. I think Kenya, Bangladesh and Zimbabwe should play a triseries every year in the 3 countries like Australia and Newzeland is currently doing.
Second, before playing aganist major countries like Australia, England, India, Pakistan etc... they should play a series of 3 ODI in their country aganist associate countries or developing countries to get enough match practise and build up the confidence of players.
Another problem seen in most countries is lack of pool of players to select from. If 2 to 3 players get injured, its impossible to get experienced players or players of caliber. There should be atleast 20 players to be choosen from who has 25 to 30 ODI experiences.
Marketing and globlizing of the games. All the games played should be well marketed and the television should show the matches all over the world. Eg, Bangladesh people living in America or Africa should be albe to watch the matches through television or through internet.
Cricket Accademy. There should be a good cricket accademy or cricket college providing education to the players.
Registered players. There should be alteast 1000 players across the country who are registered and playing club cricket in different states.
Hunting for players. A program to hunt talented players like Speedstar hunting for fast bowlers, "Unbreakable wall" hunting for most consistent batsman "safety hands" hunting for best catchers and best fielders. There should be a program to hunt the new talents through out the major cities and should look for new talents and the winners should be send to Australian Accademy or cricket accademies and the potential players should be selected to the team
Junior cricket. There should be Under 13, Under 15, Under 17, and Under 19 teams and these team should have atleast 35 to 50 days of international cricket during a year.
A teams and B teams. There should be A teams and B teams and they should play atleast 35 to 50 days of cricket and the pontential playes should be selected to the team
Domestic cricket. Different players should be send to play domestic cricket in different countries like India, England, Pakistan, Australia, Westindies etc. This will bring exposure of playing in the different country and country picthes and will help when play major series in the countries.
Importing club players according to the condition. This is to increase the quality of game. For eg can hire 10 to 15 club cricket in a year from different countries who are spinners to assist the spin bowlers of Bangladesh and also to improve batting against the spinners. Can do same with the fastbowlers.
Exporting players to different countries to study the condition. Can send upcoming talented players to MRF pace accademy and some cities of India to study bowling. Can send players to Australia and hire some club cricket bowlers there for say 15 days to 25 days to bowel against the batsman.

Also, introducing cricket camps not only for the international players, but also domestic and club players.
Setting an Accademy for batsman, fielders, spin bowlers, and pace bowlers in different parts of the countries. Hiring guest coaches throughout the year for 5 to 10 days.
Inviting associate countries to play in the domestic cricket and also to play 2 to 3 ODIs a year.

All great points but some things must be accounted for.
For BD getting 1000 players in club cricket is a piece of cake. But for Kenya and Zimbabwe it is not easy. The shear number of population is not there. However, with a smaller number amazing things can be achieved if resources are properly utilized. (Maldives soccer team, Bd club teams use to defeat them by the margin of 9-0, 10-1. Now they are ranked ahead of Bangladesh in FIFA rankings)
The difference in talent level between the elite countries and Zim, BD and Kenya are not that much. But the later lacks of experience. Playing each other would give match practice but other than that nothing. To improve one must play with a higher competition. There is no alternatives. That's why simply on potential BD test status was given. Without this Bd wouldn't be able to tour and play against NZ, Aus, SA or England.
I agree with the coaching clinics, talent search etc. I also want the pitches to be consistant and not flat. Currently the uneven bounces are killing the matches.

Uganda, Namibia, Kenya.
Scotland, Ireland, Holland, Denmark.
Bermuda, Canada, USA, Argentina.
UAE, Nepal, Malaysia, HongKong.
Test playing nations with money concern: Pakistan, WI, BD, Zim, NZ.
Global Cricket need money. ICC needs to continue do the ground work on these countries. So developing the associate members six and beyond, a huge step for the test nations who are solvant, would be to support ICC's plan for WC, Champion's Trophy etc.

Saqlain Musgtaq will play for Ireland in C&G Trophy:

btw I don't think that the English would like to see cricket becoming popular in Europe. If that happened they could lose their continental supremacy in a 20/30 years time as it happened before for football and rugby!

well one way to make cricket globilize is making more countries play cricket and quality cricket than the present 10 test playing countries. If only play more cricket then only more people will know more about the lesser playing countries players names.

I'm not optimist about cricket development in other countries. It is a complicated game and people need lot of time to understand and appreciate it. I think that's why it is only diffused in countries that were former british colonies: the game was brought there ad people learnt to love it.

IMO, when a country tours England, why not play a few tour matches (still ODI's) against Ireland or Netherlands and other countries in Europe.
When touring West Indies, a few ODI's against Bermuda, USA or another ODI country in the Americas.
When touring South Africa or Zimbabwe, play a few ODI's against Kenya, Uganda or Namibia.
I am aware not all of the countries above are full ODI countries, but you could have a first class (3 day) match against them still.

Excellent point Battye. Another point is may be these associate counrties can participate in closest leagues (Nepal to join India or BD league - Scotland, Holland, Ireland joins English county - Burmuda joining WI - Namibia, Kenya joing Zim or SA - Malay, HongKong, PNG joining the Australian league) May not be in their top league but more cricket would certainly allow these countries get a feel for the real deal. For Canada, USA and Argentina I have no answer. They are just too far apart. ICC can bear some of the cost.

This is not possible. In the tight international schedule, the only way to fit these extra matches is dumping pre-series practice matches. But all teams would prefer to play practice matches in the country of main series. Practice matches not only provide necessary match practice, but also helps the tourist players to get accquainted with the local conditions. So the idea of dumping practice matches wouldn't attract any big team who have a tight international schedule.

Well one match played to associate countries is not going to do any harm
for eg countries touring England can play one or two ODI against Holland, Ireland, and Scotland. usually two countries tour the country so they can play 2 ODI during the tour against these country. Also, England can play 2 ODI a year against any of these countries.
Another way is to call these country to play in other countries against the domestic clubs and give one or two international matches when other countries play match in the country
For eg. We can call Ireland, Scotland, Holland, Canada, Bermuda, etc to play against the domestic clubs.
Then just before a series we can get some match practise against these country say one ODI or 2 ODI and when a country like Pakistan or Australia plays Bangladesh, they can play aganist any of the country which is in Bangladesh for one ODI.
If these are done by all countries then the associate countries will get a couple of international matches and also get experience against the international countries.
These international matches should be televised and should be provided to their countries and also the country they tour. Because it is televised before the international tour, there will be no additional cost for carrying the equpments such as camera and these camera can be used for the series also..

One big suggestion and easy way to globilize games in the associate countries is to play a minworldcup of 20/20 cricket for say 10 days in which around 20 to 30 matches played by the 6 associate countries.
20/20 will attract crowd and money and the money can be used for development of the countries.
