Default Farewell Sachin

I felt obliged to open this thread to salute the batting legend on his farewell. He has given us so many magic moments. What else to be said... Farewell Master.

"There are two kind of batsmen in the world. One, Sachin Tendulkar. Two, all the others."
- England coach and former Zimbabwe batsman Andy Flower.

Even though he is not a bangladeshi player, he should deserve a bc banner until the test finishes.

He's 40 and just recently scored a 200 in an ODI. Some of our guys will - God forbid - fall down and roll over 50 times if they last till 30.

Sachin- the best cricketer of this planet and it’s not only for his god given cricketing skill which is of course there but mostly because of his sheer passion and respect for this game. Thank u sir for entertaining us for such a long time. Tamim mama, please learn one or two things regarding physical fitness from the great little master. I want the same long term entertainment from u too.

Best of luck in the future Tendulkar. Definitely one of the greatest batsmen of all time. Great person as well. Unlike a lot of the arrogant Indian players, this guy kept steady head on his shoulders and was humble. I remember after we beat them in the Asia Cup, he said something along the lines of "I've always maintained that Bangladesh is an underrated team, they a good team."

It'll honestly be weird not seeing Tendulkar anymore in an Indian jersey. The guy IS India.

Tendulkar was there when I first started watching cricket. He was a beast back then esp the way he played at many Sharjah cups. There was a time when Sachin, Saeed Anwar and Lara were fighting for highest # of centuries in ODI. They were all around 15-16 centuries and then Sachin took off. More than a player I like Sachin as a person. Cricket is a gentleman's game and two players that lived by this code were Dravid and Sachin.

Monga's article is a good read, quite emotional.

Quote:
Tino Best, in the meantime, lobs a throw direct into the stumps at Tendulkar's end. The whole crowd goes "aye aye", which in Mumbai doesn't mean yes. It is their way of pulling someone up. Someone who is threatening their boy. Tendulkar, 40, is still their boy. They will protect him.
Quote:
For about 10 seconds, Tendulkar looks at the pitch, waits for Pujara to join him, and then walks back. He raises the bat as he does. That's his promise. Time will stop tomorrow again.

This was while watching in Gillette Sports show in BTV when my love for the game received a significant bump.

Hat's off to a man of good heart.

The most formidable run accumulator bar none! Bradman might have had the better average, Lara the more attractive style and match-winning record, Viv the more intimidating swag, Ponting the more feisty game, but in terms of longevity (powered by love of the game) and sheer hunger for runs, matched only by his own aptitude at feeding that hunger, Sachin Tendulkar stands out across all of cricket's history. Moreover, he deftly handled being THE celebrity of a populous nation and managed to profit from it without ever losing his Q-factor or soul.

India team has the batting riches to replace his production for the last 3-4 years but I doubt if they will ever replace the man and the brand.
