The pacers are not being ostracized. Just look at Mash and see how well he bowled in this ODI series so far. He came back from a long break and still bowls with accuracy and got Gayle twice. Unfortunately, Rubel/Abul is no where near Mash. Why give them repeated chance when we know very well we could play Sunny who will perform better.

Up until the mid 90s, in ODIs the opening batsmen would play it sound and safe. Then the SL openers (Kaluwithrana/Jayasuriya) changed the dimension of the game by attacking and that became the norm now. Some time back, no one would open bowling with spinners. But not slowly that has been adapted by many teams. You do what works for you. If Rubel/Abul performed, then we would drop a spinner and go with 3 seamers.

Yes pace bowling is a major issue in Bangladesh but its certainly solvable. First alter a lot of your Cricket pitches and make them fast and bouncy so that not only it encourages our fast bowlers but our batsman can play the short pitched ball with ease which I'm sorry to say, has been our downfall. Question; why do you think the 4 subcontinent teams have have the best spinners compared to the non-subcontinent teams? - its because of their pitches that's why!

Pak doesn't have pitches like SA/Aus....all dead pitches too. But they keep producing pacers and they are effective even in dead pitches. So pitch isn't a big issue for producing pacers.

Bring Zia instead of Naeem and Sunny instead of Rubel.
Zia can bowl 3-4 overs as Rubel-Raju does that for us.
Including Sunny will increase our bowling strength.Let Zia come at number 3.Hope he wont disappoint us.

I agree with playing Elias instead of Rubel. Obviously it would make our attack more unbalanced but if it can give us a better chance to win, then why not? It's not like Abul or Rubel were really effective anyways and even Mominul looked a better option compared to Rubel. Playing just 1 pacer may not work against other teams but why care about that now? We should focus on winning this series and it's clear WI still don't have a clear idea on how to play our spinners.

I thought that Sunny was in the squad. We were playing 2 spinners in every match and we had only 2 spinners in the squad? That was a decision then.

I think they can get away by using 1 pace bowler in the last 2 matches considering the pitch will still remain the same. Just need to hope we win the toss for once and field first. Rahman can bowl some decent medium pacers anyway so I agree with your selection.

It's easy to bypass issues by calling it a naturally gifted thing. But I'm sure, they have some system to do that, environment to encourage that or incentives for doing that so it's the result of something that can be done. A skill set can't be so much naturally gifted and genetically passed down, skill is something that needs to be acquired, well, some people might have advantage in learning something faster. Otherwise, Gavaskar's son should have become naturally another Gavaskar and Imrans son another Imran...when you give so much to natural gift, that has to be more genetic as well....

Dead pitches encouraged them to master the art of generating more pace, control, accuracy, movement through air etc....pitch comes into effect only after the ball pitches.

Just imagine West Indies lost the toss and had to field second and leave with all that regret.

lol.. Something to laugh about..Just saw it on cricinfo : (3rd Odi ) http://www.espncricinfo.com/page2/co...ry/595403.html

"Close encounter
Tamim fielded in front of our gallery for a large portion of the West Indies innings, but was not received well by the crowd, especially after he reacted late to a shot and then let another couple go without so much as moving in the ball's direction. However, one valiant save was all it took for him to regain the crowd's support.
Sunil Narine, fielding near us during the first innings, was given directions to Narayanganj, a small city close to Dhaka, and told that Tamim and Mahmudullah would send his deliveries there."

Goodluck Tiger..Lets hope tamim and Mah. both can deliver and we can scure our series victory tonight....

In 70s and 80s India was weak in Pace attack, only Kapil was a class ! Now India has quite a few world class pacers and it was possible for their long term planning to produce pacers. Legendary Dennis Lily helped India through MRF academy to produce good quality pacers . We need that type of Academy in our country to produce pacers.

Pakistani fast bowlers eat a lot and Bangladeshi's don't. The difference between the 2 sets of fast bowling countries is the knowledge on how the body works and what you can do to benefit yourself if you're a fast bowler. The only fast bowlers of Bangladesh that have worked on their bodies are Mashrafe and Nazmul who are clearly two of our best fast bowlers at the moment so no surprises. The others like Rubel and Shafiul are too fragile and skinny and despite having played for over 2 years of International Cricket, we have yet to see them improving their physique.

Mainly because Pakistanis in general have physical structure better suited for pace bowling. 95% of the amatuer/teeange Pakistanis (Not professional) have crap batting technique (Hit or miss) but 25% of them can bowl at high pace (130+). On the other hand you will often see a teenage boy with great batting technique in Bangladesh in each para team (Most of them leave cricket due to lack of opportunity/society/education) but you will hardly find genuine quick bowlers.

@BANFAN: Yes your points are somewhat true but trust me, bowling fast on these slowish low wickets will get you bored in no time which is natural for the human mind where as bowling on fast bouncy wickets will encourage you to bowl for hours all the time again natural for our minds. That's why altering some of our pitches will provide a good start in producing very good fast bowlers. Other factors like, speed, height, weight etc are beneficial but not crucial.

Firstly, he bowl fast because they can physically.

More than dead pitch, the Pakis prefer bowling fast because anything slow will result in ball dispersing (Trust me, I have played 4 years with them) by the blind swings of the Pak batsman in genereal. But when you bowl fast then the batsman (blind sloggers) face trouble.

Bishwajit Roy

It seems that this winter has not been too cold on the Bangladeshi newcomers as the addition of Shohag Gazi, Mominul Haque and Anamul Haque has provided a boost to the national side. The trio already made their arrival felt but they have also seen both sides of the coin following Bangladesh's defeat in the third match after two convincing wins in Khulna. After the four-wicket loss in the third game at Mirpur, the million dollar question is: will Bangladesh be able to win the series against the formidable West Indies?

Without doubt the winter would be more remarkable for the three newcomers if they can be part of a series-winning team and contribute something to the success. It however will not be an easy task even though the home side is leading the series 2-1 and showed some character even in defeat as West Indies' top performers like Marlon Samuels and Sunil Narine showed their class in the third ODI. A carefree Gazi, a smart Anamul and a shy Mominul were however confident enough about winning the series and they were hopeful that the dream can come true today when the fourth match will take place at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur, starting at 2.30pm.

While Bangladesh captain Mushfiqur Rahim was reluctant to speak to the media on the eve of the fourth game yesterday, a rest day for the Tigers, his young brigade were however eager to express their determination and all three were praying that their skipper calls rightly at the toss for the first time in the series. Unlike the third game the pitch for the fourth game could be a batting paradise, in which case batting second will be much easier under lights, so luck at the toss is important for both teams in the day-night affair. . . . . . . .http://www.thedailystar.net/newDesig...php?nid=260179

A real belief in the team: Jurgensen
Naimul Karim

It was a top-notch all-round performance by the Tigers in Khulna that gave them the two crucial wins over the West Indies in the beginning of the series. However, with the visitors having pulled one back on Wednesday, courtesy of a brilliant century by Marlon Samuels, the question that lingers in the minds of the thousands of Bangladeshi supporters is whether the hosts can keep their calm and pull off at least one win in the coming days.

Interim head coach Shane Jurgensen, who has been with the team for close to two years now, certainly thinks so and claimed to have noticed a positive change in the attitude of the players in the last couple of series.

“I think there's a real belief there. The boys know that we missed out on a little opportunity on Wednesday. What's changed in this team I think is their belief. We stumbled upon the Asia Cup and did well, we won against Ireland in the T20s and winning creates a good habit,” said Jurgensen in an interview with The Daily Star yesterday. “The team now understands what we do well when we win and what we didn't quite get right when we lose. That's a good sign,” he added. . . . . . . http://www.thedailystar.net/newDesig...php?nid=260181
