BCB wants NCL on-time
Sports Reporter

The tournament committee of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is determined to start the franchise-based National Cricket League (NCL) from October 14 regardless of whether they are still lagging behind in preparing the guidelines for the new-look competition.

“We are determined to start the league as per our announced time because we want to create an opportunity for the national players to play at least two longer-version matches before the start of the home series against West Indies,” said BCB director and tournament committee chairman Gazi Ashraf Hossain yesterday.

West Indies are expected to tour Bangladesh in October-November to play one T20I, two Tests and five ODIs.

The tournament committee had exchanged views with the representatives of the divisions and Dhaka Metro regarding the franchise-based first-class tournament.

“We discussed many things. They wanted to know about their involvement with the franchise-based tournament. Hopefully we can prepare a guideline within the next seven days so that they can understand everything,” said Ashraf adding that there will be no stone left unturned to make the country's lone first-class competition more competitive and attractive.

The former national skipper was also not too bothered with the response from the sponsors.

“You can't compare this tournament with the BPL, which is completely a commercial venture. We want to start it if even two or three [franchises] can get sponsors. In that case the rest will play under their respective division's banner. We should start it to introduce real competitiveness in the first-class competition,” he added.

The opening and final matches will be day-night affairs which will take place at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur and pink balls will be used in the day-night fixt

Good to see that we're playing the WI for 5 ODIs rather than the customary 3 ODI'S against the G8. We really have to be ready this time against them this time. We have to prove ourselves in a long series.

good to see sajidul's name down for a team, had a lot of talent, hoping he can bring it back and come into national contention. also happy to see shaker ahmed there, but i hope he's focusing on bowling instead of batting this season.

http://www.prothom-alo.com/detail/da...13/news/288991

Yes I was just amazed with the idea. If they can bring 8 quality pacers for 8 teams. That will be really good for our cricket. But another thing in my mind is our local pacers will not get adequate chance to play.Still it looks a good idea to me.

When is the first round starting...and how many matches for each team? I hope its more than just 7 matches. They should have a plate league if thats the case.

NCL is going to be started on 14th. Its not far away. It will be a franchise based tourney but not much sound from BCB. First match will be a day night match. Hoping for a good tourney.
One news is Shakib will not probably play in this tourney.

Good for us. But I think they want to take revenge by a 5-0 white wash..

Timing of this season's NCL is perfect. Right before the WI series.Anamul is going to have to step up his game of he wants to make the Test Squad. Hopefully Enam will keep up his performance and take over for Razzak.

Good to see something is going right in domestic cricket. But they need new pitches, coaches and good foreign recruits... Above all, they need to find out ways to make the tournament competitive.... Or else it will just be time wasting business as usual for the cricketers.

I think they need to increase the foreign Quota to 04 players, while the national team players will not be available, to keep the league competitive and in some standard.

Agree definitely with the last para. I would say, focus on foreign pacers and off spinners.

I think we always should start our FC league in his time. All the wickets will be fresh weather will be pace friendly so some grass in the wicket will produce swing. No doubt this is the perfect time for the FC league.

I agree with you about starting early. But I would start from middle of September. And I would make it a regular thing come rain or shine. And play home an away basis for all 8 teams. That would be 14 FC per team.

Home and away is a very essential ingredient to make it popular and competitive. I dont know why BCB is not trying this. Even in current number of games its possible to restart the home and away format.
They can make two groups (eastern and western)from the 8 teams and play with home and away format.Top 4 will play in semifinal followed by final.
