BD to prepare green top pitches against India
It is felt by BD officials that green pitches should be prepared for the tests against India as BD batsmen are considered better against pace bowlers than against spinners.
Green top for India

Interesting news. Seems like this green top wicket is not a bad idea at all unless it hits back our batsmen as boomerang...after all Pathan and Zahir should also be taken into consideration.

Not completely a senseless thought. In my opinion, from now onwards, BD should consider making grassy wickets for all test matches.

i'm not so sure about that.
its the pace bowlers who always get us in situations like 4/5 (u figure out which one is run and which one is wicket).
unabilty to place swings are my worst worry.

Precisely the reason why we should play on grass. If we don't know how to play swing we should create conditions to learn it. How hard can it be?

can't agree. no doubt we need to learn how to play swings. no doubt we need to create conditions to learn it. and also, it should not be very hard. still where i do not agree is, we should not create this type of pitch at the last moment just to play an important series. instead we need to create pitces like these in domestic league and get use to it playing there. we need to practice on grasstop first before we face it in real match. also, we need to keep in mind that spin is our bowling strength. our bowling lineup will not have anything to offer on that.

what's the latest news...how will they get green pitch..I don't believe it...even they do in this amount of time how they will make our "talented" batsmen play with this pitch...they can't even pace mediocar league bowlers for more than 40 balls.!!!
Only putting them in boot camp and taking off their cloths is the only solutions I see for now for these shamless batsmen. But what best I can expect from Bdeshis in sports!!!

Our weather is not suitable for green tops! Even if they bring in soil from Iceland, it won't help- it will soon become dry and be turning wickets. We just need to adapt to what kind of wickets we prepare and doctor pitches like some of our sub-continental counterparts! I think we should prepare sporting wickets!
Right now our team needs help not the grounds- we need emphasis on our batting and look into that subject more carefully and let the curator do his job properly- although by my experience, i don't think they do that quite well!
We also need to take care of our grounds, like Abahani field, i see the way it maintained during off-season and i can't figure out how they play on the same ground during the season! We don't have many grounds in BD, specially Dhaka, and whatever we have, we need to take care of them and not let that get out of our hands! Who knows, a couple of years from now- we'll probably see an apt complex or shopping complex in that corner or Abahani field where long time ago existed a basketball court!

apart from the pep talk, BD would be perhaps better off with a grassy wicket where pace bowlers get a lot out of the wicket. I am not sure about the statement that whatever is put together the pitch will crack at the end due to climate in BD. The reason behind my comment is as following:
1) In pace bowling a strength to strength comparison shows BD has smaller gap with India contrary to spin bowling. Some of the specialist batsmen in the Indian team can bowl slow ones (e.g Tendulkar, Sehwag etc.) very well. Therefore, they have depth in their slow bowling department. On strength comparison for spin, BD is miles off from India. Also if one of the two, Z. Khan, and I. Pathan are rested, the gap in pace bowling is further reduced.
2) From a batting point of view, I think BD is equally vulnerable against spin and pace, if one looks at the entire innings of a match. Evidently, I think Ashraful and Bashar play better against pace bowling. Potentially, that is a gamble though. We have done enough of those, and would one more hurt? A point to ponder.
3) Here is a soft underbelly that Indian team in my opinion has: The last time India toured NZ, I noticed NZ created a massacre with some intelligent pace bowling on a track that considerably helped the pacers.
On a batting track, India would score 500+ in a day and a half and we would loose by a innings on the 4th day. However, on a pace friendly track we have a solid chance in minimizing the gap and perhaps even show case our bowlers to justify pace friendly tracks for future tests in BD.

if we make flat pitch, tendulkar,dravid,laxman........will make a mess with their bats.if we make spinning track, kumble and harbhajan will kill us.if we make bouncy pitch, their seamers will destroy us.as long as we dont improve our game, no pitch will make any difference. but for this series, bouncy pitch seems to be best choice.we have masri, talha, and tapash who are very capable of competing with the indian pacers.

we need green wicket in the domestic league, that is the MOST important. consequence of one series is much less. But i wonder whether making a green top in the test matches will help the domectic league pitches too...
in the test matches we are amost as bad (or as good) in any pitches... so, what to loose..

I would agree with making green top pitches, provided that the wickets will be maintained for playing the domestic pitches.
P.S. I'm back, my brother will leave for UK soon and I'll get the computer for my own after a long while. The good part of it is that he has upgraded my 4-year old computer with the addition of a 64 MB Graphics Card and 80 GB hard disk space, which will let me play games that are relatively more recent.

I think making the green pitch is a very good decision. Because, I have seen the recent matches of India against Australia and South Africe. And I've seen how dangerous Anil Kumble can be. We should not worry about Zaheer and Pathan more than Anil Kumble. Anil himself can take 10 wickets of bangladesh. So, Itz a good decision. Now, Indian's are good at batting, and this pitch will favour Indian batsmen too. So our bowlers have to be careful. Indian batting line up is so strong that if our bowlers can't restrict them in a considerable amount, I won't be surprise if Indians pass 700 in any test innings.

i dont agree with your number two point. i think ashraful is better playing spins. the century that ashraful was against srilanka and which was mainly against spin attacks like murali. so if he can play murali that well i think he is pretty good playing spins.

Green top for India

Whilst I agree that we are even worse playing against spinners, nonetheless, our top batting line up are no better than our bottom order.
So, we should go for hard, fast, true pitches. Of course, if India wins the toss.. Dravid & co. could notch up 600 or so. However, if Bangladesh cricket have improved in any department , it is in bowling to a disciplined line. Apart from Tapash, all others are pretty good at it. Particularly, Mushfique, who, otherwise, is an innocuous bowler !
With hard, fast, true pitches, the match might even go to the 5th day ! That's victory for me !!

Oh brother! I just saw a clip of Irfan Khan Pathan and Zaheer Khan bowling to the Saffies in the ongoing second test! One thing is for sure, if our top order don't get their act together there hardly may be any runs for the likes of Masri, tapash and Talha to defend on a pacy wicket.
