Default A great thread by a great fan ?

I was searching through for BD domestic cricket stats and came across this site where this staff member named 'Jungle Jumbo', who's apperantly aged 15-16, not a Bangladeshi and nor has any link to BD, is maintaining a thread full of stats of literally every domestic tournament in Bangladesh.

Here's the message he posted on his thread-

"As Chubb already has a Zimbabwean thread I thought that the Bangladeshis also deserve a thread. I am not Bangladeshi myself nor do I have an link with Bangladesh, I meerly have an interest in what was until recently the worst first class league in the world."

The thread is located at - http://forum.cricketweb.net/showthread.php?t=15850

It seems to be active for over a year and very up to date, it's not even stickied. I don't know whether all this information is readily available on TC or elsewhere, I just thought it's remarkable that even a non-Bangladeshi invests so much interest, time and effort into Bangladeshi cricket. I'm not sure if he's even aware of BanglaCricket, perhaps one of our mods can extend an invitation to him to join us.

That's all.

We should. Didn't think of it when I came across his posts as I was updating the domestic section here:

Current/Forthcoming Domestic Fixtures

Season Tour/Tournament Date
2006-07 National Cricket League, FC Winter 2006-Spring 2007
2006-07 National Cricket League, OD Winter 2006-Spring 2007

I remember ATMR actually providing a link to that forum earlier in a thread here in BC. If I can remember correctly, that thread also had the same title as this one! Quite ironic stuff. Thanks HB anyway for bring this up.

Maaaan ! This guy kept record of everything that were going on with Bangladesh domestic leagues and development teams over last one year !

I see already quite a few BC celebrity members (cricman, James90, Miraz, ....) have subscribed to his thread.

yes, i was quite surprised to see the kind of stats that the guy had on that thread, and the kind of interest that domestic cricket in bangladesh generates among so many bideshis. i also noticed a few known nicks there

I came accross the forum and the particular thread in early December 2006. The forum is quite neat and there is lot of enthusiasm about Bangladesh Cricket. I was not aware that Jungle Jumbo is not a Bangladeshi. Haven't seen the first post. Its a real surprise for me that a non Bangladeshi is following Bangladesh domestic cricket with such passion.

About similar thread in Banglacricket, I think we are a bit more enthusiastic in opening threads. We have separate threads for each domestic comepetitions (sometimes more than one thread for each competition). In cricket web forum, there is very few Bangladeshi member or members making post about Bangladesh cricket. So, they are not opeining many threads and discussing in one thread and they also have staff members dedicated for each test playing nations domestic season.

IMO, the way we are doing is fine.

Now, we can make a sticky thread for Bangladesh doemstic cricket and another one for Bangladesh international cricket. We can only post the summary result of each match on these threads. Normal discussion with enthusiasm can be done by opening different threads but we will always update those two threads.

Just a thought.

We can either have a new sub-forum (under BD cricket) dedicated to all domestic competitions, so that we don't have to cram too much into one thread. OR have a single sticky thread in this forum dedicated to domestic tournaments only, Miraz bhai being our statsguru seems like the right person to do it. If one of our mods can kindly tell which option is better, we should go ahead with it.

I am ready to do the job but I believe TheWatcher is more appropriate person to do that. Moreover, he is a staff member

Very well, let's see if mods give the green light to a new sub-forum.

Miraz, I am flattered But as Dr Z said, if you quit your ambition to be the leader of opposition, we can take you in. Then you yourself can be the super knowledgeable staff member to take care of all this.

My opinion is that (which has nothing to do with my staff status) we go with the current domestic cricket threads as it is now. Putting them in a new discussion sub forum will mean those threads will get less hits. There is no need to make them sticky either- as long members are participating, those threads will stay at top.

What I suggest is that we create an archive section for threads that are exclusively related to domestic leagues, development teams tours and tournaments, and talent hunts. This way it will be easy for us to look back for a certain tour or season when we want to. For example- from time to time, I go look for what McInnes said about a certain player on a tour, but I have to do quite bit of digging to find them out. This kind of info exclusively belongs to BC and should be preserved well.

This way, at the end of each tour or season, we can request an admin to move related threads to archive section and don't have to be afraid of losing valuable writing analysis from Miraz.
