Shikhar Dhawan, Murali
Vijay, Bhuvneshwar
Kumar and Ravindra
Jadeja were rewarded for
their efforts as they
earned a promotion to
the Grade B list.
Surprisingly, Ishant
Sharma, who has been
struggling for form, has
been retained in the
Grade B list.

i'm always surprised when short format specialists make the A grade contract but then if they are that good and experienced then why not. kind of surprised gambhir is on the B list, they must still really think of him as a long term option otherwise i just don't see why he'd be that high. ishant should be dropped to C contract i mean come on, and murali vijay has in no way cemented his spot and it's only one format anyway so he should probably be a C. surprised ojha is a B as he barely plays. not sure why saha has a contract, reckon it should have gone to kaul, probably a bit early for samson and they probably could have gone with another keeper bat other than karthik also

as far as sehwag, zaheer and harby not being in the list.

shewag: i think they are completely done with him, he's 35, struggling a lot with form and he said he'd play middle order. i think by saying he'd play middle order he shot himself in the foot a bit because there aren't any places there, he's was probably thinking the #6 spot is open but there is a wealth of young talent to test out in that position so why pick a 35 year old who is now past his prime? his chance to get back was a strong domestic FC season, and strong performances in A team matches but with murali vijay, rahane, chand, jiwanjot singh, mukund, reddy etc i think they area ready to move on from sehwag.

zaheer: he's also 35, coming back from injury so maybe they are worried that he's not got much left in him? he's been there best pacer for years and yes they have some talent coming through but none as consistent as zaheer yet expect for maybe b.kumar. reckon they should have gone with zaheer, i would have.

harby: i think he lost out because ashwin is bowling well, ojha is bowling well, jadeja has been doing a great job. they're all younger, ashwin and jadeja also add some batting strength. he is a big leave though as he's 10th on the all time list for most test wickets career and he's only 1 behind wasim akram and 8 behind shaun pollock. realistically if he was to play another couple of seasons he could get to #6 on the list which would put him ahead of wasim, pollock, hadlee and kapil, to get there he only needs 22 wickets. the next closest of those still playing are vettori but he's pretty much done i'd say and steyn who is steaming along but still needs 70+ wicekts to reach/surpass harby.
