Buying an iPhone for use in Bangladesh
Folks, I need help. I want to know where I can purchase an unlocked iPhone that I could use with Bangladeshi sim cards. A cousin back home wants one, but as far as I know, iPhones are sold only with two year AT&T contracts. Some websites are selling the unlocked versions for $900, but thats a lot of mula. Are there any alternatives? I know "unlocking" an iPhone can be done for around $50 bucks ... but I'd need an iPhone first which I cannot purchase without AT&T. Am I missing something here? Help!

You can't get an unlocked iphone for less than ~$7-800 in USA AFAIK.
I have an iphone, while I like it, its no where worth more than $200 IMO. If you are going to spend more than that you are pissing away money. Specially now that they are announcing 4G next month. Not to mention, iphone is tied down with att in USA, if you use your phone with other network outside the country that is not tied down to an official Apple affiliate, you won't be able to take advantage of some of the features of iphone that makes it unique, ie, push notification, visual voicemail, app-stores (I think). Then you will need to jailbreak your iphone to take advantage on some of those features in a limited fashion. But you can't update your phone to the latest firmare after you jailbreak.
Too much hastle, not worth the money, time or effort. Its just novelty device.
I suggest get an android phone unlocked. No limitation and the new android OS rocks! As soon as my contract expires I am dissing my iphone.
Nexus One unlocked will run you ~$550 (with tax).
Also you can get an unlocked iphone in BD for the same price $7-800 bucks.

Oh cmon, I know it's not the best looking phone but ugly is pushing it. It's actually really nice when you hold it in your hand. But what's really good about the Pre is not what's outside but what's inside. The webOS is arguably the best mobile OS out there. If you want a true mutitasking phone, there is nothing remotely as intuitive as the webOS. This thing makes Android look like a bad metaphor for Windows and we know the iPhone OS can multitask as much flying cockroaches can be considered birds and Apple's lame attempt to add multitasking in iPhone OS 4.0 isn't going to change that.

you can buy an Iphone from Ebay for 300+ and unlock it yourself. Its not that complicated, the only thing is before you buy the iphone you have to make sure its not firmware 3.1.3. Firmware 3.1.3 is the latest firmware and unlocking software for that is not out yet. As long as its not that firmware you should have no problem unlocking it. Mine had one of the older firmware when I bought it but I upgraded to 3.1.2 firmware. There is a website which has all available firmware for Iphone. Before you unlock your phone you can easily upgrade to 3.1.2 and use blackra1n to unlock it. There are plenty of videos on youtube.
If you don't wanna buy from ebay try this site. This is where I bought it from.

it took me 5 mins to unlock mine by following a youtube video. its really easy to be honest. you shouldn't pay for unlocking it.
and bro look around kijiji for good deals. for a 3g you shouldnt pay more than 300. 3gs around 400.

The best thing about iPhones are the cases. I feel like buying an iPhone just so I can put it in that^. But unfortunately the case costs just as much as the phone.

Have you guys seen some of the HTC products? Superb. I love the HTC HD2. Only problem is they are MS based. However, Android will be added in a month or so..

I'm using a HTC Hero at the moment and I must say it is excellent. Mind you it is my first smartphone so I have nothing to compare it against. I have Android 1.6 on mine. Can't upgrade to 2.1 as my network providers haven't got the update yet.

HTC Desire dude... see if you can get your hands on that; but they probably havent released it for the US market. Its the google nexus one (which is made by HTC) with slight changes: senseUI and an optical trackpad for instance.

The calf won't produce any milk for a while. Wait for 5g and I am sure that calf would have grown into a beautiful shade cladding strapping cow by then, for all your dairy needs

HTC have had Android based phones since 2009. I have a HTC Eris (a.k.a HTC Hero). It is not top-of-the-line but it does the job of a typical smartphone pretty good. "Nexus One" is much more powerful specification-wise but has some spotty support history due to issues between T-Mobile and Google. As of May, 2010 "HTC Incredible" (a.k.a Droid Incredible) is the most powerful android phone in US market. Sprint EVO, also by HTC, is coming out in June and should have more powerful features including first phone with 4G capability. Not sure about the network performance though, it being on Sprint .. ;-).
