Default BD Test squad for 1st Pakistan Test Announced

Expected squad to be honest, and that just shows how poor the Nannu led selection panel is. Part of it is a lot of key players being injured too. Shadman, Mosaddek, Miraz would defintiely have replaced 3 of the deadweights who got picked.

1) Mominul (*)
2) Liton (+)
3) Shanto (sub for Shadman)
4) Tamim
5) Saif
6) Mithun (sub for Mushy)
7) Soumya (sub for Mosaddek)
8) Riyad
9) Taijul
10) Nayeem
11) Jayed
12) Ebadat
13) Al Amin
14) Rubel

Mithun and Rubel should not picked even if 100 players are injured. I'd rather have Naeem Islam and Shafiul over those two hacks. Seriously hope this is the last series for Liton and his sub 25 average. Can't wait for Riyad's retirement. Shanto's selection on the basis of BPL selection is laughable.

If Shadman, Mushy, and Mosaddek were available it would be a fairly decent squad.

Excellent opportunity for Nayeem here. He's better than Miraz, and I hope Miraz uses this opportunity to become our Shakib replacement. If he can average 30 with the bat and bat at 6-7, that will good enough.

The XI is easy to predict:

Tamim
Saif
Mominul
Soumya/Shanto
Riyad
Mithun
Liton
Taijul
Nayeem
Jayed
Ebadat

I can live with that XI, given Mushy, Shakib, Shadman would replace 3 of the deadweights. And hopefully Mosaddek will replace Riyad by the 2nd Test in Karachi.

Are we learning from past mistakes? No. Are we ready for next disaster when one or two senior becomes unavailable? No.

Not many quality players in the pipeline so it does not matter who you pick. Performance wise there will be little difference whether you send this team or A team or HP team or even Walton Central.

Not sure why some of you keep complaining about Riyad. He has been one of our better batsmen in away tours in recent past.

http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/eng...s;type=batting

It's the captain that will be the most likely dead-weight, that will sink the team.

My XI would be:

Tamim
Saif
Soumya
Momin
Riyad
Mithun/Shanto (depending on pitch)
Liton
Taijul
Nayeem/AA (depending on pitch)
Ebadat
Rahi

Don't think it is wise to have only one extra batsman as concussion replacement. I would have taken Jahurul or Naeem as the 15th member of the squad.

Yeah, they needed to take 2 backup batters and 1 backup spinner for concussion sub given PAK's pace attack.

These tests have disaster written all over it .

Mominul still living on past reputation . Would you believe it...His batting average dipped below 40! I never thought this would happen

No Shakib, no Mushy means that's half our Test batting lineup

Riyad has never been anything but mediocre in tests, mominul’s average was always going to drop, he was never a 60/50 average player, more like 40, or if stars had really aligned maybe 40-45 (which he could still achieve). He’s probably more like 35-40 average player.

Also, no guarantee that other players like mosaddek, shadman etc would do any better than the current lot, though I do agree they are players who should be given solid runs to see whether they can play at test level. The liton’s and soumya’s are still up there with the best we’ve got so don’t see any reason complaining about them, same with a guy like shanto, solid prospect, yasir as well.

Mithun and rubel (especially rubel) are the real horror picks in this squad, everyone else has a good claim for a spot one way or another.

Yeah Mominul will do well to average 40-45 from here on out. I think he can do it. He has the technique. He is a naturally attacking batsmen and he needs to do that. He will average 50+ or so at home, unless we go back to really turning tracks. All he has to do is average 30-35 away from home and he has the quality to do that.

Mosaddek is a like for like replacement for Riyad. Can't see him averaging much less than Riyad's 33.

Soumya, a case can be made for him, although he has a very mediocre FC record. But Liton is on borrowed time. He would need to make some good scores in a good fashion to maintain his place IMO.

Mithun and Rubel not even worthy of discusssing anymore.

Liton has been very disappointing, I agree that atm he is in a position where he’s pretty much on borrowed time, I still think he is up there as far as talent but he certainly has not pushed forward enough with the amount of opportunities he has been given.

No matter triple or double when playing and facing Pak, they will have tough time scoring and keeping their stumps and playing like T20. All I wish play like a test match.

Here's Domingo's line up:

Tamim
Saif
Shanto
Momin
Riyad
Mithun
Liton

https://www.espncricinfo.com/story/_...ussell-domingo

Leaving out Soumya (40+ average overseas) in favor of Mithun/Shanto is just dumb.

Even dumber choice - Rubel has been chosen over AA (our best bowler in the last Test)

Bangladesh: 1 Tamim Iqbal, 2 Saif Hassan, 3 Najmul Hossain Shanto, 4 Mominul Haque (capt), 5 Mohammad Mithun, 6 Mahmudullah, 7 Liton Das (wk), 8 Taijul Islam, 9 Rubel Hossain, 10 Abu Jayed, 11 Ebadot Hossain

Pakistan bowling first

AA makes Bumrah's action look good...thats how ugly it is. Silver lining and I'd never think Rubel's test bowling would be a silver lining.

Can't believe Mithun is in the squad. We literally have 3 batsmen of any repute in the entire top 7 with Tamim, Mominul, and Riyad. It might be a miracle to get 300 even on a flat track.
