What about the Namibia tour? Is Bashar ready?

I was gonna post it yesterday night before going to sleep that whether Mahmud would go to Namibia as he is a part of the ODI team, now that seems to be way off the mark, doesn't it?

I would like to take this chance to highlight some of the things that Mahmud had done during our last Namibia tour:-

1st match: 7 off 14 balls, 23 for 1 wicket in 5 overs

2nd match: did not play

3rd match: did not play

4th match: 19 off 41 balls, 29 runs in 8 overs

5th match: 6 runs off 8 balls, 5.2 overs & 38 runs

I would like to get your attention on the 4th match in particular, in this match, Pilot, the then captain scored 44 runs off 71balls and was man of the match, but he could not have done it and won the match for Bangladesh if Khaled Mahmud had not have scored 19 runs staying at the crease for 41 balls - WHILE CHASING A VERY LOW TARGET OF 132 RUNS. It became a very close match as Bangladesh had won that match by a margin of 1 wicket.

About the Namibia trip now - According to Reuter's report, Bangladesh is due to play the first One Day match against Namibia on 31st January. Today is 25th January. The team will leave for Namibia on 28th or 29th January.

Khaled Mashud was the captain during our last trip and he is still in the team right now - so if Whatmore or Bashar needs help, they can always go to Mashud for help or info on how the Namibia team is, or was at the time.

Whatmore will try to do experimenting during this short tour. Habibul Bashar will also be the captain for the first time in this tour.

We will lose all our hopes for the Bangladesh team if we cannot whitewash Namibia and either beat or draw the 3-day match.

With all the congratulations and welcomes, is Bashar aware of the situation at hand? Since there isn't a lot of time for him to think for the Namibia tour, so did he start thinking? The last time when he toured there, he was in bad form (he's always in bad form in One Day matches anyway) but still, he will be the captain this time.

In case because of all the dramatic news of Bangladesh cricket, you have forgotten about Namibia's performance in Zimbabwe, here's something to remind you again.

With all due respect to Zimbawe-A, our own K.R.L. (Kutubdia Rui-Mach League) adequately staffed with lungi wearing eigth-graders, could administer a spanking to ZIM-A.( How's that for a chauvanistic comment!) Okay, maybe that's overstating the situation but, the fact is that there is a huge drop-off in talent between the first and second elevens of countries like ZIM an KEN right now.

To the point though, the Namibia tour will not be a cakewalk but, I'm confident that Bashar and Co. will succeed in whitewashing them.

There's always a chance of an upset... Bangaldesh staged one in 99 WC... Mind you, it wasnt the best team we had... so if Namibia were to get better of BD in one match nothing to worry abt... (besides a kick to the player's morale)...

But for an honest opinion... BD will fare well aganist Namibia... This BD team is much improved in technique, thinking, experience than the team that toured Namibia before the 2003 WC... That WAS a blunder... that team that went to play the WC... Sujon retiring isnt...

I find it surprising that ppl expect BD to ouplay kenya with the current team and expect to be beaten by Namibia... come on ppl... u really think thats something to worry abt??? we will beat Namibia without any trouble... Inshallah... and sumon can show his cool batting once again... (ok dude... please dont let me down)...
