Sakib has been a great find for us, perhaps the all-rounder we always wanted that Alok couldn't become. I think he has the mentality to be a good test batsman and hopefully prove it in the upcoming matches.

What's really disappointing is Mohammed Ashraful's stats. To average 21 after over a hundred one-day internationals, given his talent, is very, very ordinary. Talent is all well and good, but results are more important. Given his experience he should have stepped up a long time ago.
Of even greater concern is that his average seems to have stabilised around the 20 mark over the past 50 matches - it's no longer trending upwards or downwards (click on thumbnail below).
We don't want Ashraful's name to always be associated with the word "potential" - because all potential means is that you haven't achieved success yet, you're still a "maybe". He really needs to step up this year, otherwise it will become apparent that for all his talent, he's just a 20-average player, and we all know he's better than that. But actions speak louder than words, as they say.

I whole heartedly support you. Ash is really overrated in the BC forum.

I personally think the whole team is overrated

Good effort. But I am missing scoring rates. That's important for ODIs.

So, Javed is there among the top.....i think we need strike rate for ODIs to get the real picture also
Same kind of stats for test matches will also be nice...

pre-2002 stats against zimbabwe can be counted in these stats. until 2002, zimbabwe used to be a major team until the strikes broke out in wc 2003.

This should be one of the most necessary thread in this section. Commendable stuff, TheWatcher. But I think the Strike Rate is a crucial aspect gone missing here.

Guys, I know that strike rate is an important factor in one-day cricket. Unfortunately, cricinfo's statsguru does not give you the S.R.

The problem with Zimbabwe is that they never really maintained a standard, their performances always fluctuated a lot. Also, even in their golden periods, they never managed to break into top eight teams. So, I thought performances against Zimbabwe, even from the Flower-Streak era, should not be categorized as same as the performances against any top eight team.

why is this off sticky ? I for one think that it should be there, as it can monitor our batsmen's performance, without going out of sight.

Thanks a bunch to Mahir for calculating strike rates and %runs scored from boundaries for qualifying matches played since 2005 NatWest series. Those stats are now added to the first post.
