I hope to GOD we'll have spin-friendly pitches for ODIs 3, 4 and 5. A totally flat pitch will dramatically increase the odds in their favor.

that's what worries me about the Dhaka pitch. India onslaught in worldcup 2011, the 58 and 78 were all there

Well I think its the mentality I mean the best place in Bangladesh besides being your homeground is to score a 100 and take 4/5 wicket hauls at Mirpur Stadium (SBNS) considering its historic and the main stadium of Bangladesh so players tell to themselves they have to or want to succeed but it doesn't work somehow. People say its totally a flat deck and yes its true a lot of the time but it does offer some turn but I hope the curator can make it similar to Khulna but a bit more turn in nit so West Indies do not have to go with lots of fast bowling which is our weakness.

That's not quite a valid assertion because the assumption being made here is that all opponents are of equal strength. For a better predictive power, we will need to factor in the strength of the opposition at the very least.

Looks like a simple machine learning model could be constructed. For simplicity, we can start with the following features:
  • Oponent strength - we can use ICC rating as a value
  • Type of match (ODI/TEST/T20I)
  • Ground
Of course, we can start more and more features such as month of match, who batted first, team compositions (how many spinners vs pacers), etc etc.

Of course, the more features we have, we need to come up with some feature selection algorithm - or we may be in danger over fitting.

I just have a gut feeling that we might get best results with an SVM. But YMMV.

Bangladesh haven't won any matches against West Indies at SBNS. We succumbed to our lowest ever ODI score (58) against West Indies in the world cup at SBNS. It won't be easy to win against West Indies at SBNS due to the wicket type. We needed a slow low pitch like Khulna or Chittagong to balance the batting strength of West Indies.

Let's see whether our boys can keep the wicket type out of the equation and deliver a third win.

And we smashed Pakistani and sri lankan bowling at SBNS too(cant be bothered to count indian attack). That pakistani bowling was far better in quality than Windies

Not quite right, BD did won a T20 last year vs WI in SNBS, if you are talking about ODI then yes you are right

Because these rankings are crap. In terms of quality, we are at least in the top 2 right now. We have transformed into a formidable team over time and under an excellent interim HC, who btw is also the best bowling coach we've ever had.

Do we have a large enough training set to run an SVM?

I am very glad about that. Shows that our expectations have risen for ODI's. And justifiably so.

Things people should get a warning for the following reasons (followed by bans, from here on out):

- Opening rankings-related threads until we are in top 3
- Celebratory threads
- Countdown threads

These make us look lame! I wouldn't care if I wasn't part of this forum, but because I'm I care. I care about my image! And BC can't ruin people like me, ATMR and etc's images! BC don't have the right to do that! NO RIGHT!

As long as the wicket has some bounce and turn, I am not worried. In fact, I am not worried. Period. They boys are confident and this is our best format. Given our recent performance, I am confident that we will clinch series by the 4th match, if not earlier.
