I truly dislike the name Chattogram. The change was really unnecessary.

Anyways, the REAL El Clasico should be a good contest given how both teams have been dominating this season of BPL.

I don’t know why they bothered to change the name from Chittagong. Which is more international and familiar international and people can easily pronounce it desh bidesh.

Bengalis are their own worst enemies.

The reason they changed the name is the same reason Dhaka is Dhaka and not Dacca

I thought Chattogram is the Banglafied version, the local people call it Chittagong or Chatga.

Unlike Dacca, Chittagong is not an anglicized word, it originates from the local dialect.

Okay, now this brought up something I remembered from the Fantasy league I ran a few seasons ago.

'Chatgaiya Polapains'

By Tausif I think.

The 'chat' in there. What's the meaning in this context?

Yup, I am from Chittagong and most people call it Chatga there. But the people I have interacted with in Dhaka, most refer to it as Chattogram.

In years time it will be fully covered as the new tag. Chittagong will be lost there was a bollyfilm named Chittagong, its a historic name knowng since British time in subC.

Chittagong, the name gives me a FarEast vibes, like a city in China, like how HK, Singapore sole city. A the vibe of a developed city, mega city which obviously it isn’t atm but that’s the vibe the tag gives. And when one day it becomes developed, with high sky scrappers and what not then the new name Chattogram will not compliment it well, it will sound khet.

I will miss Chittagong. But guess what it will still remain as Chittagong in my eyes. Chattogram sounds ok, but like a name of a zila or village not for the 2nd city of your country which has been known as Chittagong since time!

Stupid change imo

I don't know what 'Chat' stands for but the people who are from Chittagong are referred to as 'Chatgaiya' just like people from Dhaka are referred to as 'Dhakaiya'. That's the reason behind that name since I am from Chittagong

There is a huge difference between Dacca to Dhaka compare to Chittagong to Chattogram. It’s literally two different names. Dacca still sound like Dhaka. Chattogram doesnt sound like Chittagong. The Far east vibe goes out the window. Comes in gram bangla gramie vibes. It be fine to name the division ad Chattogram but the city should’ve remained the same. And I think all divisions should have separate names and not the names of the city.
