Default Mission Impossible- Sumon in contention for 1000 runs this year?

Looking at the batting stats this year Smith of SA is on target to be the first batsman to get 1,000 Test runs this year ,he has 896 at 74.67
–Brian Lara (832 at 83.20)
- Mark Butcher (748 at 62.33)
-Herschelle Gibbs (744 at 62.00)

Our Bashar is presently fifth in the run-scorers chart with 702 at 50.14. Sumon is challenged by australian batsmen,

Darren Lehmann (640 at 80.00)
Ricky Ponting (610 at 87.14)
Steve Waugh (590 at 118.00)
Justin Langer (583 at 53.00)

For 2002, a record six players managed to breach the 1,000 run barrier. Ponting one of them from last year (1,064 at 70.93) is currently in this year's top 10.

Nothing but a spectacular show by sumon in the next test series puts him in contention. Outlandish stuff like double century?:P

298 runs from 4 innings (provided we can play them out) in 2 tests against England? Not impossible, but very difficult indeed, it would be wonderful if he can pull it off though.

Sumon only gets 4 innings to make it happen. That's 298 runs in 2 tests. It will be really tought ... if he does make it, it will not only be phenomenal (sp), it will also make us competitive against the English in the two tests.

Smith isn't getting that 1000 runs soon, cause SA doesn't have a tour on hand after cancelling Pak tour.

Bashar all the way........

298 in 4 innings, that average of 74.5 which I think close to impossible. But he might get close ( I am hoping for another 50 average series for Sumon).

Sumon might need 298 for 1000 in the year

But Sumon is only 259 runs away from 2000 in his test career

Javed also need 182 to achieve him 1000 in career

298 isn't impossible, 2 centuries and 2 half centuries will do it. Bashar can do it if he plays his natural game. Home advantage is also there.
