Default Tamim Iqbal is incapable of taking singles

Apart from some of his aggressive and classy shots, he becomes too defensive.
Dont seem to enjoy the game ans incapable of taking singles.

This is not a complete batsman, obviously not for a national side.
If he cant LEARN that, try some new muscles.

i don't think many of the BD players are capable of taking consistent singles at this level, either that or they just don't look to take singles. ashraful and aftab can do it but aftab usually chooses to go for the bigger shot and even though ashraful isn't afraid of singles he doesn't often stick around long enough to make a difference. definately something the whole team needs to work on so we probably shouldn't single (nice pun aye haha) anyone out.

haven't seen any of this NZ tour and heard tamim''s technique has improved so maybe now he looks like he can play at this level, but going by his T20 performance there is no way you could confidently say he looks like he can play at this level. granted it's a different format, but a class player is a class player no matter what format they're playing. not that he doesn't have the potential but he has a way to go to be successful at this level.

this is an interesting topic, I thought this until the second odi against nz, he had a solid start filled solid boundaries but after the bowlers had altered their lines and boundaries weren't on he changed gears and showed good technique to nudge the ball around to score singles and rotate the strike. He even showed that in todays match.

This singles thing, would it please the Dhaka Crowd ? Or Chittagong or anywhere in BD? Fotafot dui char ta boundary na marle abar player hoilo naki ?

Tamim's got strokes, but his head is not in the right place yet. Going back to mid eighties to upto now, I can't remeber too many BD players being crazy about taking those isngles in ODIs. Must be a Bangladeshi thing. Ek laaf e baro haat progress korte giye we fall down harder. Koto coach elo r gelo, amader ei boundary only strategy keo paltate parlona. Well, that, and prothom ball e NAAK, CHOCK, MUKH bondho kore bat chalaonor shobhab. Ei duto basic jinish shudhdho korte parle we can start seeing more positive results. *sigh*

the only player I know who could take singles AFAIK was Nannu. I remember one match in Ctg Cricket League where he scored a 80 odd with a single boundary.

Its not only Tamim rather a huge problem for whole team. Every single player is always looking for boundaries which is not a good sign and this is not good cricket. They have to learn to take singles under pressure, so does big teams.

Yeah, well said, that is the final solution.

Tamim is almost a shoe in for the first test match. I am curious to see how he reacts to three slips and wide space in front of his eyes. People think in test matches, single don't matter much. Wrong. Rotating strike is a big thing in test cricket nowadays and unable to rotate strikes put additional pressure on a batsman when he can't find boundaries. Just look at the India-Aus test. Indian batsmen put additional pressure on themselves when they couldn't find singles. Aussies on the other hand found one with ease. Its a issue with our whole team, not only Tamim. Other than Ash and Aftab, noone is willing and confident enough to take a cheeky single once in a while.

Yup!! Most of the BD players do not like to take/be singles. They like couples. Ei laigga Biya'r dhum laiga gasey. Waiting for the news of Tamim, Shakib, Ash, Rasel, Razzak getting married.

singles!!
couples!!

I wish they were so eager to turn singles into couples in the field also.

Tamim looked better and sure for test. In test you don't need to score fast but need some one who can negotiate the fast bowlers. Where as batsmen!!! like Tusher, mehrab, Mushfiq, sakib had no clue... they reminds me of those old days...

he'l improve for sure, its just another very hard skill he needs to work at, lets not forget, ashraful had the same problem when he started off..
