Based on performance we are poorer compared to their initial matches. But both Pak and Sri was also alike. The only problem is there was not much media coverage earlier so most games were only followed by die-hard fans going to the stadium. Rest got an idea from newspaper reports which were not always authentic enough. Also, watching someone really fail, then replays from different angles and commentating, reviews both in media and net make an awful lot of criticism and dislike which BD had to face which was not so either important or looked into when a fan checked the scorecard and read the news.

It took New Zealand 20 years to win its 1st test and almost a 100 years after playing Cricket, still a pathetic team. Fact is test Cricket needs teams like Bangladesh, Ireland not the other way around because nobody bothers to turn up or even watch it on tv. Very few teams play this old long game so its literally dyeing.

Should have added in the title..."In those ancient days of cricket" we are talking about the game, almost 70 years back, when there was only one format and comparing with a team catching up in modern days cricket ... And that too in three formats at the same time.

Why not use BC itself?

This 8 year old article is still worth reading:

Cricket Pundits and arm-chair critics all over the cricketing world have come down hard on Bangladesh?s performances in the Test arena, and repeatedly called for Bangladesh?s Test status to be revoked. One of the recurring themes in this campaign has been the comparative performance of Bangladesh and other Test nations in their infancy. It has been argued that Bangladesh?s performance has been woefully below par when compared to other teams in similar stages of their Test careers.

Answering critics

like alfurqaan says many times, "considering the circumstances, we haven't done that bad at all" within three years of our test status we almost won the multan test to mention against a strong Pakistan attack.

although, with all that has been said and with all due respect, it is about time we start winning test matches with all the current resources we have at our disposal. otherwise, we will have less and less opportunities to grow as a cricket nation if we do not start winning now. It has been mentioned so many times that it is a vicious cycle. you don't win matches, you will not play quality opposition in future. Bangladesh is that one full member ICC nation who plays the least amount of international cricket per year(apart from Zimbabwe). To change that, we should start winning some tests.
