Default Does Shakib's WC19 make up for all his failings?

All the times Shakib threw his wicket away and cost BD matches...does this WC maturity make up for it?

I say yes. WC is at least 10x more important than meaningless bilateral ODIs. Who cares if we beat India in some Kitply Cup fixture back in 2009?

But we are on course to finish 5th at this World Cup, and can finally say with proof that we are a top 5 ODI team and the 2nd best team in Asia.

We are experience heavy, Aus is skill heavy. It will be difficult to beat AUS. If we get a SBNS type pitch then we can count on it.

shakib only plays for money
shakib should just franchise cricket and t20..
he is becoming a businessman..
he doesnt like cricket and becoming mp for fame...

I see it from a different perspective. What is lost cannot be made up. What matters is overall progress of him as a batsman/player. WC definitely holds more weight as the whole world is watching but we wont be performing at this level if we dont do well to earn it. Its like if you dont do homework, put the effort in, you cant expect to ace the exam. What i liked today is shakib specifically mentioned he started working on his batting and it is paying off. It is good to see that he is putting work behind the scene to make himself better rather than take himself for granted.

I think him not being picked for majority of the SRH matches gave him the kick he needed to pick up his slacks. All these time, he was walking around as if he is untouchable. BD team didn't care, other franchise team showed him his place for not performing. Gave him the motivation to be the old shakib who wanted to be the very best. Good for us. Win here in WC matches for his performances > any series that even we can't remember properly. Even the expert analysists are baffled by his performance.

not sure what thanking the IPL has to do with anything about what i said. Everyone needs a kick one way or not, that was probably his way. If you read the interview prior to the WC he mentioned several times that he received a kick - which he won't name - to get his act together. It doesnt take a rocket scientist to understand where he got the kick from. A player like him is not used to sitting on the bench throughout a tournament.

And most importantly, Shakib is “beyadop”! I just wish we had one more “Beyadop” like Shaib in BD.

So Ahsan... you'd rather have a Shakib who scores 1000 run in ODI than some who doesn't use tissue but finger to wipe his nose off?

Hehehe ...i would care less if someone uses his finger to wipe his butt, not just nose, as long as he performs as good as Shakib, if not more, when in BD cricket team!

That was my point, IPL snub was what led to his epiphany; if they hadn't benched him the entire season he wouldn't be in the form he is in right now. We should be glad that he was benched.

I was totally against playing Shakib playing number 3 and boy has he proved me wrong. I thought Mushfiq was going to do well instead and we know how that has turned out.

May Shakib keep on proving me wrong InshahAllah

What a thread and what timing , one thing though. It shows he had a high ceiling and could have been so much more in the past , but now he can live up to his talent and become one of the best of all time still by turning into a run machine.

i made a post ages ago saying how shakib should bat at 3. It made sense. He is experienced and has a great mental game.

No what has happened has happened. You cannot makeup for your failures. What you can do is do well with what you have in front of you and you are doing exceptionally. He is not only the best cricketer in Bangladesh but he is probably among the best cricketers in the world right now
