Tamim calls for spirit

Almost all the excitement of the inter-club cricketers transfer was virtually buried much before the start of the official bourse after all the big clubs ensured their targeted players. However there was no shortage of enthusiasm among the supporters on the second day of the transfer when title contenders Mohammedan SC turned up yesterday to complete their formalities at the Bangabandhu National Stadium.

Mohammedan, who have remained crownless since their last Premier League triumph in 2001, put on a huge show yesterday in the stadium arena as hundreds of supporters followed the horsecabs that carried star cricketers likes Tamim Iqbal, Mohammad Ashraful, Mahmudullah Riyad, Aftab Ahmed, Khaled Mashud and others.

"Once I would expect such scenario especially the way Mohammedan have brought us in the stadium for the players' registration and the dream has come true," said left-handed opener Tamim Iqbal, for whom Mohammedan had earlier staged a drama to snatch the specialist batsman from the grip of their archrivals Abahani.

Mohammedan, in a bid to put an end to their seven-year crown drought, have formed a fine side on paper after having signed up 10 new players as well as retaining the services of five old guards.

But Tamim stressed the need for a hundred percent effort from the players and stressed the need for spirit that was in the Abahani camp during his last year there.

"It is impossible to achieve success until all players perform together, even you form a strongest side on paper and the key of the success is team spirit what I saw in Abahani during my stay there," said Tamim adding that it was possible to emerge champions this season.

Tamim believed that Abahani, Gazi Tank Cricketers, Surjo Torun and Biman also formed good sides and Mohammedan would have to play better cricket against every side on way to their target.

Captain Khaled Mashud Pilot, who had the experience to lead Abahani and Victoria to the title triumph, believed that Mohammedan had earlier had some lacking, but this time they formed a balanced team and now need the efforts from the players.

"If the cricketers can play their own game, the success will come automatically," Mashud said, "I had earlier seen the Mohammedan players could not perform well according to their merit, and this time I will share my experience with each of the players to bring the best from them."

Hard-hitter Aftab Ahmed was much more happy to return to the mainstream cricket after his one-year exile to the ICC un-approved Indian Cricket League (ICL).

"I forgot everything of the past year after having practiced with the Mohammedan team today (Wednesday) and it seems to me that I was not out of the domestic cricket. To be honest, I feel really better after a long time, " said Aftab Ahmed.

He was also determined to return to the national fold.

"I know it very well what will I have to do and if I can perform well, it will not be hard to secure a place of the national team."

Mohammedan have signed up ten new players. They are Tamim, Ashraful, Mashud, Riyad, Imtiaz Khan, Nabil Samad, Raihan Uddin Arafat, Saqlaine Sajib and Shahajada Hossain.

Surjo Torun signed up three players including national pacer Mahbubul Alam Robin on the second day with captain Habibul Bashar and Dhiman Ghosh accompanying the three cricketers.

"I would try to retain the results what the club achieved last season though it would be challenging," said Bashar, who is all set to captain Surjo Torun this year.

Dhiman Ghosh, who was once mired in controversy amidst his comments during joining the ICL, said that he was now feeling remorse for his comments and that he was determined to return to the national fold through good performance.

Besides, Old DOHS roped in 13 players and Victoria recruited nine players on the second day bourse.

Shakib knows very well how to play "expectation card" and "the burden of fullfilling it" very well to his advantage.

Now that "on the record" MohaModon is the undisputed best team "on paper", anythung lapse would be considered as a failure. And we know very well how motin plays under pressure. If Tamim goes early,.. the rest of the batsman will run to the pavilion like "Amashar Rugi".

Looks like Biman will play with two wicket keepers to prevent any runs between WK and slips. Watch out all the national batsman, no more khocha khochi...Kohcha merecho to morecho.

This season Aftab will strugle no doubt about that. Motin will score one century early and will be virtually a non factor, actually in a way a major draggiung factor for the team for the rest of the season (after his early century against kolabagan.

Looks like the Mohamodon's nightmare of "Motin-Aftab" debacle will continue for one more year. Pilot, how good he used to be, will be pretty bad with the wicket and will be "Run Rate Buster" as a batsman.

Only Tamim will give some return back. But you never know what greed does to player's mind. Plus when he will not get any support from other superstars, I am predicting, he will get involved in some kind of fist-fight with his team mates. Motin-er Chor vs. Tamim-er Ghushi... who will win is pretty predictable. There will be no fight with Aftab as he will run for his life and will lose 2 pounds out of 20 pounds that he gained this year.

Seems like we have a prediction god here who knows everything about the future.

Why not join the national team management? The team will benifit a lot from you as you will know the outcome of the game before it starts and the player who will perform in which games.

Yes it is fans prereogative and desire to predict. As much as folks hate Mohamedans, they did fund for a super team and used their money wisely. The team can, arguably be, almost the national team!!Whilst Abahoni thought they would rock the boat with money and spend half their budget on two of their players who are not only injured but also will be called for national duty pretty soon. Hopefully, it will pay off but their bets were not risk justified, to me. Gazi Tank/S.Torun have balanced their attack with well balanced talents from Pace Hunt, BKSP etc. But at the end, it doesnt matter which star joined which team. A win on that day will be the key on our un-predictable wickets.

For fans though..One thing for sure,, This season will be the BEST season of recent domestic leagues for many reasons ( 1. Mohamedans wanting a cup after 7 years 2. Abahoni wants a hattrick 3. ICL ers want to prove their worth 4. Money awaiting for performers on IPL/PCL/XCL 5. Money, Money and more Money...)

Prediction is always a prediction, and no guarantee it will happen...

However Prediction purely based on "tia pakhi picking envelopes" or based on "known facts" its all You to decide...

1. Prediction: "This season Aftab will strugle no doubt about that."
Based on: a) Aftab's comment, "I forgot everything of the past year.."
b) Aftab's recent picture
c) Aftab's cricket related (in)activities for alst one year

2. Prediction: "Motin will score one century early and will be virtually a non factor"
Based on: a) Motin's track record for last 5 years

3. Prediction: "actually in a way a major draggiung factor for the team for the rest of the season"
Based on: a)Motin's track record i.e average and his frequency of good innings and bad innings.

4. Prediction: "Mohamodon's nightmare of "Motin-Aftab" debacle will continue"
Based on: It happened once, and nothing basically changed. So it can happen again.

5. Prediction: "Only Tamim will give some return back"
Based on: Tamim's track record.

6. Prediction: "you never know what greed does to player's mind"
Based on: History of similar greedy players in cricket and other sports.

7. Prediction: "when he will not get any support from other superstars, I am predicting, he will get involved in some kind of fist-fight"
Based on : a) Tamim's comment "It is impossible to achieve success until all players perform together, even you form a strongest side on paper and the key of the success is team spirit what I saw in Abahani during my stay there,", b) His team mate's (Motin and Aftab) past history playing for Mohamedan, c) Tamim's well known hot temper nature.

8. Prediction: "Motin-er Chor vs. Tamim-er Ghushi"
Based on: Both has shown their prefereable method to resolve conflict. One used thappor to a fan, other punched a player while disputing.

9. Prediction:" There will be no fight with Aftab as he will run for his life and will lose 2 pounds out of 20 pounds that he gained this year."
Based on: a) based on Aftab's lazy and play it safe (non cricket related) type reputation
b) Recent picture and his comment about his inactivity.

Therefore my friends "Ja rotey ta kichu hooleo ghotey"

No doubt you watch comedy central. Joka!!!

They had been trying for the last seven years, getting big fat "unda" every year in return. Ash - Aftab played for them couple of years back. The new team (tamim etc.) has been formed to avoid relegation this year.

Yes there is risk in investing so much money on injured but proven winners. But there is no logic bankrupting your club for proven slackers.

An injured tiger is more dangerous than a healthy donkey.

Now figure it out who is the tiger and who is the donkey.

New Nation is giving detailed list of players for last two days -

1st Day

2nd Day

I find it surprising how many 1st division players have been inducted in premier league this year.

Reasons may be -

1) Clubs trying to save money by hiring more 1st division players. or
2) They been scouting 1st division matches and figured the division has plenty of players better than average premier league players. or
3) Plenty of premier league players quit cricket over last 6 month and forced clubs to bring in new talents from 1st division.

BTW, Old DOHS last year brought Abul Hasan from 2nd division. He went on to become the top wicket taker of the premier league, and then was inducted in the U-19 team. So, I am looking forward to see how their new recruits do this year.

Yes fans do predict..but not what you are predicting. Fans predicts runs/wickets or win/loss but you are predicting who will have fight and who will score big on which match..blah blah..Anyways, keep doing it as long as it makes you happy.

Very interesting indeed. There's an interview of Morsalin from a few months ago somewhere on the forums, where he mentions his desire to become as good as his brother. I say learn to bowl at death, son, and replace your big bro.
