Player injury status and availability for Domestic Cricket

On a memo dated Sunday, 26 September 2004 to BCB Officials and others, the High Performance Manager Richard McInnes gives updates and advice on the injured players. Mr. McInnes was kind enough to send us a copy. Thank you coach - chinaman.


Please find below the recommendations from Justin Cordy, National Team Conditioner (and stand in Physiotherapist while John Gloster is on leave) in relation to the players involved with the High Performance Program who are in the process of recovering from injuries. The players individually understand what they are allowed and not allowed to do in relation to their bowling workloads. It is important however that this is supported by all members of the Bangladesh cricket community to minimise the chance of repeat injuries, delaying a players' full comeback.

Masharafe bin Mortaza:

Will progress bowling workload from 80% to 100% during October, bowling every second day in spells increasing from 5 overs up to 8 overs during the month. Once he is able to bowl 8 over spells, he will then bowl on consecutive days in 6 over spells and progress this to 8 over spells prior to December 2004.

He will be available for Domestic cricket from November onwards but he must be strictly supervised and not exceed to workloads indicated in his program. It is projected he will be available for ODI cricket by late November and Test cricket by mid December if all goes according to plan and he performs the program provided to him.

Enamul Haque Jnr:

Enam is still recovering from a ruptured posterior cruciate ligament and is at least 6 weeks away from being considered for selection. The original time frame provided in England was an underestimate. While Enam is currently able to bowl, the highest risk for him is fielding and landing on his knee again, before it has properly healed. He can train in a controlled environment, but can not play matches until mid to late November.

Talha Jubaer:

Talha is available to play corporate league but can bowl a maximum of 8 overs in one spell and is unable to bowl on consecutive days. He is limited at this stage to 24 overs in a week spread across 3 alternate days.

Md Sharif:

Sharif is available for selection in all forms of cricket and is currently bowling 6 over spells at 100% intensity. He was never part of the original High Performance Squad and as such now that he is able to bowl again, he must earn selection based on Domestic cricket performances. He is still to consult with physiotherapist weekly and maintain is own conditioning work, unsupervised.

Hmmm.
Does that mean, based on this recommendation, BCB should not select Masharafe bin Mortaza & Enamul Haque Jnr for New Zealand Series to minimise the chance of repeat injuries?

This probably means that the selection people either didn't have complete info prior to the selection or they are desperately hoping against all odds here and trying to face the kiwis all guns blazing.

hmmm...clearly it is a bad idea to play Masri in the NZ test series. Enamul Jnr. must also not be rushed in. We all desperaately want to make a comeback...but lets not be rash...the selectors must heed the advice keeping in mind the longterm interests of the team and the players concerned.

One positive news is that Md. Sharif seems to have recovered fully from his injury. Hope he will prove his worth starting with the CCL.

yeah, no masri for NZ series. no way. we can't resk any more of his injury. enamul is not a vital player for us at this moment, we do have many who can replace him. so, only prospect is sharif. what the heck, we still have paposh, we just need one more quicky who is not toothless like aziz alamgir or manju. so, only sharif can perform, we might have all be need for this moment. now, nazmul and shahadat can be good prospect for the future, but they still have so many things to learn that we better not get into that. talha...... if his performance is good enough, he can play a ODI or two. probably what selectors will do is to rotate between talha and sharif for odi, and keep aziz for test.

From that i can say that Masrafee and Enamul will be ready for the Indian tour. Talha will play 2 ODIs. Possibly Sharif for 1 ODI. against NZ

If we are not getting Mashrafe, Talha, Sharif for the tests, We are going to rely only on Taposh and Tareq with the support of Mushfiq.

I would have loved to see Sharif bowl as soon as possible - but in that case, we have to sacrifice 1 pace bowler, possibly in either Tareq Aziz or Mushfiqur Rahman in the final eleven.

I'm sure Mushfique won't be dropped, due to his affair with Whatmore, as well as his batting capabilities, so the only other choice is getting Sharif in place of Tareq Aziz. Then again, we may end up making a turning pitch where we won't need more than 2 medium pacers in Tapash and Mushfique.

There is also Tareq Aziz's batting capabilities. His batting contributions helped in drawing the test match in the WI for us.

Yes but no one has mentioned Nazmul Hossain. Why cant he play in the tests.
