Question to Bangladeshi fans
i was looking back on the maiden test match for Bangladesh and one of the bowlers was Bikash Ranjan Das, who was a fast bowler with all the right attributes (physique and height), at this present time he is only 24, and he made his debut at 18. Does anyone know what happened to him? he, along with Mashrafe and Tapash were the late teen bowlers from Bangladesh when they first started according to cricinfo. Im just curious, thanks in advance

After an auspicious start Bikash had trouble with his form. In the last two seasons in FC league 2003 and 2004 - his wicket taking ability had diminished and he was averaging 40+. Dont know whether he has then dropped from the Divisional teams or he moved on to bigger and better things outside cricket.

Bikash last played in 2003-04 national Cricket League. He suffered injury during 2002-03 NCL and returned for Barisal but managed to play only 5 matches. He took only 6 wickets in 5 matches. He suffered stress fracture and seemed to recover but left hamstring injury saw the end of his career.
He played some club cricket in 2004-05. After that I have no trace about him.

its a shame on cricinfo, it sounds like he had good promise. i guess its like that for all the cricketers who played for bangladesh in the first few years, they just faded away without much memory. what happened to khaled mahmud did he retire? i remember he was the main man responisble for the win over pakistan in the 99 world cup, i think

ye i still remember ash's hundred 3 years ago, what an innings, i think it was in dhaka, i got a feeling he will do well again, Nafees has been quiet, he played well last year. As for Mash, he is starting to become a bit of an Afridi, making life misreable for us indians, with both bat and bowl and he still young!!! hopefully we will see some good cricket without much rain

Very sad indeed.
I still remember Bikash taking an Indian opener's wicket ... inside edge. I think he was the first pace bowler who went to Australia to get pace training. He then came back and then.. God knows what happened!

Khaled Mahmud Shujon took 5 wickets in that match vs PAK.
He is involved with our team now - Management or Selection Committee.

Bikash was really a promising pace bowler, used to play for our team, Kalabagan K.C
Bad luck !! Premature injuries ended his bright future.

As long as I remember, last premier league,no one wanted to take him,so he went to play for a 1st Division club and got a hat-trick.Then there were some reports on the newspapers about this "forgotten paceman". However,he faded away again and I dont know whether he is even playing for the 1st division club now.
I remembered some reports on him during the 1st test in 2001. They said he was posted at silly mid off because he learned sledging from aussies, and they also did not fail to mention it.It was hit me

Bikash Ranjan Das has remaned himself to Mahmudur Rahman Rana and he is now an active organizer in Cricketers Welfare Association of Bangladesh.
I posted a thread on this on March 15, 2006 based on a report published in Prothom-Alo (16 March 2006 Issue).
Read that thread here.: "Bikash Ranjan Das is now Mahmudur Rahman Rana"
