Default BanglaCricket Squad Announced

The squad for BanglaCricket’s inaugural series has been announced with a surprise or two. Selections were formed on the recent Simulation Series, between Team Alok and Team Sarkar. Team Alok’s, Ehsan was selected for the captaincy role by chief selector James Stedman.

The main surprise in the touring squad was the inclusion of CarteBlanche, a bits and pieces player who is reasonable with the bat, ball and gloves. James Stedman spoke out on the issue, “We have included CarteBlanche because he can fill any role should it be required. Should anything happen to Oracle during the series we need someone to fill in and CB was the obvious replacement”.

Oracle is the side’s keeper chosen ahead of AgentSmith because of behaviour issues. AgentSmith was banned for a match after telling Unknown during the first one dayer, “I’ve seen better batting in the shower” and refused to play under the Sarkar name in the third four-dayer. This taken into account Oracle still probably would have been chosen as he let in fewer byes per over and overall had a better record with the bat. Oracle was only dismissed one time during the four day series and ended up with a batting average of 144.00. This was significantly boosted by a gritty 100* at Johannesburg which helped Team Alok clinch the series. AgentSmith only managed an average of 29.50 over the two matches he played with a highest score of 79.

The notable exclusions were Bdmoderator (Alok) and Nasif (Sarkar). Bdmoderator was handy with both bat and ball and successful in breaking partnerships. He was not dismissed with the bat and took two wickets with the ball. The selectors reasoning was, “We don’t think his gentle medium pace will cause a problem in the dustbowls of Sri Lanka, we are looking to him as more of a one-day player”. In the one-day series, Bdmoderator averaged 37 with a strike rate of over 90 and played some very helpful innings. Had it not been for Bdmoderator then Team Alok certainly would have lost the series. Nasif did well in both forms of the game, hitting 137 runs in the four day matches at 34.25. James Stedman also stated, “Nasif is a definite if we were playing a one-day series as he can hit out at the end of an innings”. In the shorter version Nasif averaged 39.00 with a strike rate of over 100 and a highest score of 58* made from 54 balls in Canberra.

Three fast bowlers were picked for the tour with Piranha leading the attack. Bourny3 and Chinaman were also selected. Three spinners were included which was also considered as a strange option. “We thought three spinners were necessary in Sri Lankan conditions and it was impossible to pick from the three”. Rafiq, Navarene and Zephaniah were the three spinners picked with captain Ehsan a part time option. Stedman also defended the selection of only three fast bowlers, “None of the seamers were very successful in the domestic competition and Pundit or Unknown can be used part-time if required”.

However the biggest dilemma is who will open the batting for the BanglaCricket XI. With Pundit, Unknown, Habibul_fan and AsifTheManRahman all included in the squad. Habibul_fan has already stated that he will bat down the order and Unknown is the likely option to open as he has had such success in the position. Unknown averaged 67.80 in the Simulation Four Day series with one century and two fifties. He was also top scored in the one-day series hitting a 91 in similar conditions. Unknown hit 348 runs in the one-dayers with four fifties and an average of 69.60. So the real question is who will partner Unknown at the top of the order? Pundit or Asif?

BanglaCricket Squad: Ehsan (capt.), Pundit, Zephaniah, Habibul_fan, Unknown, Oracle, Rafiq, Navarene, Chinaman, Mueid, Piranha, AsifTheManRahman, Bourny3, CarteBlanche
