It seems England really has a problem with batting every time they start a series. This is a golden chance for the Aussies to go one up. I still think England has the better batting lineup and will be the better team at the end of the series. This could be a fascinating contest

On paper England's the better team but then again Australia's a very good side at home. So yes it'll be an interesting series

clarke and warner are the most reliable bats. rogers has been utterly disappointing but then he looked like a fish out of water when he played his 1st test years ago and he was still a good domestic batsman, he hasn't found what he needs to at international level and the problem with that is he doesn't have the time to muck around. watson as usual is still inconsistent, bailey bombed in his first match but it is only his first match so we will wait and see. our pacers are still our strongest asset. but after the first day's play totally expected australia to get mauled in this test match.

absolutely terrifying spell from Johnson. Haven't seen a spell like this since the Steyn vs India spell in SA

great field settings from Clarke as well... he never took his foot off the pedal and the let the game drift. Superb attacking fields made sure all the mistakes from the bat went to a catcher

This rain may save the English face, if it washes out the final day at Gabba.

Whats with England ALWAYS losing the first test, if not a draw, in a series lol.

5 test match series so still a long way to go. I remember the drubbing England got in the first test against India in India but in the end won that series. They batted like a team not used to the conditions yet.

If Mitchell Johnson continues to bowl like this, it'll be a decisive and memorable comeback for Australia (5-0). 9 for 103 and 103 with the bat. That's 9 for 0 in my book! Can't touch that.

A good start to a promising series. However, cricket can seriously do without these WWE style trash talks that we're seeing by players and media from both sides. While a little bit (or even quite a bit) of on-field sledging is ok, it should never be carried out of it.

Australia is a lot more fearsome on their home grounds than India though

I think Australia should stick with Hughes. Although he hasn't lived up to expectations in Tests, an average of a 32 at the age of 24 is not bad at all. He can only get better from here. Have him open alongside Warner.

I can't imagine what our players would have done on such a pitch with a bowler like Johnson aiming at their throats.

Forget about playing in Australia, imagine our batsmen even in Bangladesh. They couldn't even handle the likes of Fidel Edwards and Tino Best. Think about Johnson, Harris and Siddle. It wouldn't be a pretty sight.
