Doel laptop hits market Tuesday
UNB, Dhaka 
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the first ever Bangladesh made laptop Tuesday morning. The inaugural function will be held at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre at 10:30am. The laptop branded as “Doel” with four different models priced at Tk 10,000, Tk 13,500, Tk 22,000 and Tk 26,000 are made by the state-run Telephone Shilpa Sangstha (TSS) in collaboration with 2M Corporation Ltd, Dhaka and TFT Technology, Penang, Malaysia. A telecommunication ministry official said the date for marketing of the laptop has not been fixed. “At first, several thousand laptops would be supplied to various government institutions for public services,” the official said. He also said in future, the government has a plan to export the laptops after meeting the local demand.

BANFAN - it clearly states only the cheapest model(tk.10000) will come with android(I imagine it being basically a netbook)....whereas the tk27000 model(14") will have a i3 processor and Linux.
At that price it is without doubt a bargain in Bangladesh. The fact remains, no one with any sense will touch the 1st version, hell probably not even the 2nd version of this product, while TSS sorts out bugs/manufacturing issues and what not. But it is without doubt a very good initiative. We have to start somewhere.... BASSMAN - I seriously doubt it'll be on sale for the general public by then, and even if it is...why would you want to purchase something so new? Think of it as Chinese cars....sure they're cars, but I'm not sure I'd be spending money on one yet. PC prices are very competitive in Bangladesh, but I don't think laptop prices are as good...Best Buy/Currys/Ebay easily have better deals for bottom and high end stuff. Nasif - meh...Samsung lawyers couldn't tell the difference between their tablet and the iPad in court...if it works for them, why not us :d

Thanks for the prompt reply and advice. Quite surprised at the response rate as a girl a few days asked about a laptop and guys just flooded with answers ASAP.
Anyways, my current laptop connection socket needs replacing and that alone costs about 100 so thought of buying a notebook instead. Cheers

BASSMAN just got his knickers up in a wad as they say. The generic question about laptop choice will always garner billion and one opinions by the geekified many that inhabit this forum. Information about the DOEL has been hard to come by other than the propaganda from mohan jononeti launching the product - not many people know the details and the paucity of responses to your questions is a direct function of that. Had your name be Dassmoi instead of Bassman, that wouldn't have helped in this case at all - other than iDumb coming in to make a snide comment.

নর্থসাউথ ইউনিভার্সিটিতে ঢুকতেই প্রশ্ন ছিল, কোন গেইম খেলবেন? টোকেন নিয়ে যান। বোঝাই যায় নর্থসাউথ ইউনিভার্সিটির কমপিউটার ক্লাবের আয়োজনে আইটি এক্সপো২০১১ পর্বে চলছে জমজমাট গেম প্রতিযোগিতা।
এ ভার্সিটির কমপিউটার ক্লাবের ইনচার্জ মাশরুর রাজিব বাংলানিউজকে জানালেন, এবারের সাইবার অ্যাথলেটিক গেম প্রতিযোগিতায় সারাদেশ থেকে প্রায় আড়াই হাজার গেমার অংশ নিয়েছে। সাইবার অ্যাথলেটিক ভবিষ্যতে আন্তর্জাতিক প্রতিযোগিতা হয়ে উঠবে বলেও জানায় রাজিব। ২৭ নভেম্বর থেকে শুরু হওয়া এনএসইউ আইটি এক্সপো২০১১ শেষ হবে ২৯ নভেম্বর। এ প্রদর্শনীতে আছে ১১টি করপোরেট স্টল। এর মধ্যে এইচপি, ইন্টেল এবং ক্যাস্পারস্কি অন্যতম। তবে শিক্ষার্থীদের প্রধান আকর্ষণ দেশের তৈরি ল্যাপটপ ‘দোয়েল’ নিয়ে। দেশীয় ব্র্যান্ডের ল্যাপটপ দোয়েল বাজারে এখনও বাণিজ্যিকভাবে ছাড়া না হলেও এ প্রদর্শনীতে বিক্রি এবং প্রদর্শনী খানিকটা কৌতূহলের জন্ম দেয়। এমন কৌতূহলী প্রশ্নে আয়োজকরা বাংলানিউজকে জানায়, বাংলাদেশ এমন পণ্য তৈরি করতে পারে, এ বিষয়টি শিক্ষার্থীদের জানাতেই টেশিসকে আমন্ত্রণ জানানো হয়। অন্যদিকে দোয়েল স্টলে গিয়ে জানা যায় এর ৪টি মডেল প্রদর্শন করা হলেও বিক্রি হচ্ছে দুটি মডেল। আর দুটি মডেলই উৎপাদন মূল্যেই বিক্রি করা হচ্ছে। আইটি প্রদর্শনীর সঙ্গে চলছে সেমিনার এবং প্রশিক্ষণ। ২৮ নভেম্বর সোমবার টাইগার আইটির সহসভাপতি সারওয়ার জাহান ‘প্র্যাকটিক্যাল ইম্পলিমেন্টেশন অব এন্টারপ্রাইজ অ্যাপলিকেশন ইউজিং ইজেবি৩ ইন ওয়েবলজিক’ বিষয়ে সেমিনারের আয়োজন করে। প্রতিটি সেমিনার সেশনে শিক্ষার্থীরা উপস্থিত থেকে নানা বিষয়ে জ্ঞানার্জন করছে বলে আয়োজকরা জানান। ২৭ নভেম্বর সকালে এনএসইউ আইটি এক্সপো২০১১ উদ্বোধন করেন নর্থ সাউথ ইউনিভার্সিটির উপউপাচার্য অধ্যাপক এসএএম খাইরুল বাশার। সকাল ১০টা থেকে সন্ধ্যা ৮টা পর্যন্ত চলছে এ প্রদর্শনী। SOURCE

আবারও ল্যাপটপ দোয়েল
উৎপাদন বন্ধ থাকা প্রাইমারি মডেলের দোয়েল ল্যাপটপ আগামী মে মাসে আবারও বাজারে আসছে। তবে এবারের মডেলটি আগের তুলনায় মানসম্পন্ন হবে। আর গুণগত মান বাড়ার কারণে দামও কিছুটা বাড়তেও পারে। টেশিস সূত্র এ তথ্য জানিয়েছে।
দেশি ব্র্যান্ডের দোয়েল ল্যাপটপ উৎপাদক বাংলাদেশ টেলিফোন শিল্প সংস্থা (টেশিস) ২০১১ সালে স্বল্পমূল্যের তিনটি মডেলের ল্যাপটপ বাজারে আনে। গুণগত মান দূর্বল হওয়ায় সাধারণ ক্রেতারা প্রাইমারি মডেলের স্বল্পমূল্যের ল্যাপটপ কিনে বেকায়দায় পড়েন। এর মধ্যে প্রাইমারি মডেলের দাম সবচেয়ে কম ১০ হাজার টাকা ধরা হয়। এ ছাড়াও বেসিক মডেলের দাম ১৩ হাজার ৮০০ টাকা, স্ট্যান্ডার্ডের ২১ হাজার ৮০০ টাকা এবং অ্যাডভান্স মডেলের দাম ২৬ হাজার ৮০০ টাকা নির্ধারণ করা হয়। তবে ১০ হাজার টাকার প্রাথমিক মডেলটির জন্য কোনো বিক্রয়োত্তর সেবা নেই। তবুও কমদামের কারণে এ ল্যাপটপটি নিয়ে সাধারণ ক্রেতাদের ব্যাপক আগ্রহ ছিল। বাংলাদেশ টেলিফোন শিল্পসংস্থার ব্যবস্থাপনা পরিচালক আবু সাঈদ খান বাংলানিউজকে বলেন, কারিগরি ত্রুটি মেরামত করে দ্রুতই এটি বাজারে ছাড়া হবে। আশা করছি আগামী মে মাসে এটি নতুন আঙ্গিকে বাজারে আসবে। সঙ্গে গুণগত মানও বাড়বে। ফলে ভোক্তারা পূর্ণাঙ্গ ল্যাপটপের সুবিধা উপভোগ করতে পারবেন। টেশিস সূত্রে জানা গেছে, গুণগত মান ভালো না থাকায় কম্পোজ ছাড়া তেমন কোনো কাজই করা যেত না। এমনকি এই ল্যাপটপটি দিয়ে ই-মেইলও করা যেতো না। এ অবস্থায় টেশিস প্রাইমারি মডেলের ল্যাপটপের উৎপাদন বন্ধ করে দিতে বাধ্য হয়। টেশিস সূত্রে জানা গেছে, কারিগরি ত্রুটির কারণে বর্তমানে ল্যাপটপটির উৎপাদন বন্ধ রয়েছে। বাংলাদেশ প্রকৌশল বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের (বুয়েট) বিশেষজ্ঞ টিমের পরামর্শেই প্রাইমারি মডেলটির উৎপাদন বন্ধ রাখা হয়েছে। এই টিম বর্তমানে প্রাইমারি মডেলের ল্যাপটপের পরীক্ষা-নিরীক্ষা করছে। ল্যাপটপটিতে পূর্ণাঙ্গ ল্যাপটপের সুযোগ-সুবিধা সংযোজন করার প্রক্রিয়া চলছে। আগে এতে সিডি রম ছিল না। এবার সেটিও সংযোজন করা হচ্ছে। টেশিসের অন্য এক সূত্র জানিয়েছে, যেসব নতুন সুযোগ-সুবিধা এতে যুক্ত করা হচ্ছে তাতে আগের দামে ল্যাপটপটি বাজারজাত করা সম্ভব হবে না। এ ব্যাপারে টেশিসের ব্যবস্থাপনা পরিচালক বলেন, ‘দাম কিছুটা বাড়তে পারে। তবে এ ব্যাপারে এখনই কিছু বলা যাচ্ছে না। সব প্রক্রিয়া সম্পন্ন হলেই বোঝা যাবে দাম বাড়বে কি না। আর যদি বাড়ে কতটুকু বাড়বে তা পরবর্তীতে নির্ধারণ করা হবে।’ উল্লেখ্য, প্রধানমন্ত্রী শেখ হাসিনা গত বছরের ১১ অক্টোবর `দোয়েল` উদ্বোধন করেন। SOURCE

The DOEL logo does look like DELL. Hell, it even sounds like DELL!
The Primary and Basic models look like netbooks! The Primary model is basically a Raspberry Pi with a screen , keyboard and trackpad. The only models to go for from the list are the Basic and the New Advanced model. Rest are just meh. The New advanced model has a Sandybridge i3, has a H55 chipet motherboard, has built-in HD3000 gfx and 802.11n WiFi capability - which are all decent. Hard drive should have been a 500GB HDD or a SSD  RAM should have been 4GB DDR3 - DDR3 is cheap as chips nowdays. LAN should have been Gigabit ... I thought the H55 would have provided Gigabit LAN by default ?Still, £300 ( Tk 30k )for a laptop is not bad but still kind of pricey for BD
