i'm glad we are the minnow in that group, so no easy way into the 2nd round. we have to fight for it.

I'll be there with you. We are four families going from Chicago. We'll watch both the matches in St Lucia and Barbados.

On the contrary, we are there as the #8 and Aus is the #9 based on last WC's performance. So we are actually the higher ranked team.

The WC for T20 has been structured as follows:

Group A : #1 (Pak as defending champs), #8 (BD), #9 (AUS)
Group B : #2 (SL as runners up), #7 (NZ) , #10 (ZIM)
Group C : #3 (SA as better SF), #6 (IND), Q1 (Associates Champion)
Group D : #4 (WI as other SF), #5 (ENG), Q2 (Associates runners up)

BD got #8 because IRE is not an automatic qualifier. Also last year, we would have had ZIM in our group instead of IRE had England allowed ZIM to play.

^^ remember what happened last time around when we were the higher ranked team? i'm just happy Ireland is not in our group this year. but we will have to deal with them in World cup 11.

Well I'd much rather it be us 'upsetting' PAK and/or AUS but first its up to our coaches and Players to actually show some respect to this format.

As for the true underdogs, It looks like Afg an UAE could be the shock qualifiers over IRE and NED this year. Assuming USA does not defeat Afg by more than a 4 RR difference, both AFG and UAE are off to the final four with a win carrying over.

I wouldn't be surprise if ICC figures out a way to get USA into the World T20. Didn't they rob some team off their opportunity to be at the world T20 qualifier to get USA in the tournament?

I heard Modi is planning to bring the IPL show to the US in some capacity in the not so distant future.

A few things that indicate that T20 is on its way to cause some major havoc in the current international schedules:

1. The success of US, AFG and UAE in the recent qualifiers. This will bring populartiy with the future of associates focusing probably on this format alone which will mean that Test and ODI will have reached their pinnacle as far as marketability, profitablity and fanbase is concerned.

2. IPL to expand by 2 or 3 more teams within the next couple of years. Thats another 3/4 weeks of countries less likely to schedule international tours

3. IPL to conduct 2 tournaments per year (another 6/7 weeks)

4. Scheduling of Champions League with no respect for other domestic leagues (primarily that of ENG)

Bottom line is the more ICC ignores T20, the more it will consume up the calendar because of the money involved. The trick is not to control it but to acknowledge it and blend it in with the other two formats (something the powers that be are determined not to do at the moment).

I hope PCL reaches out to the PAK players and other former ICL players to boost the quality of the league so that our players get some solid experience heading into the WC in May.

Indeed! it is the group of death and BD will be killed in the first round. No way they can beat Pakistan and Australia if they could not even make 80 runs in the 20/20 game against the Kiwis.

Are they going to England after this? if they are going, they will have a longer time in England and maybe play a bit more practice games.

Bangladesh can be good at t20 cricket if we changed our approach to it rather than going in there and hit every ball for six..that attitude wont work, we must take it more seriously and always have a game plan for each game like you would for test/odi..

remember India we bowled out for 70/80 odd against aussies and also aussies themselves out for 75 against england in 2005..I clearly remember at those times, both those teams didnt give a rats back about t20 cricket and I think Bangladesh has the same attitude now sadly

Ya, we don't really care as a team. Plus its a free license to hit for our players, which they mistake for "hit everything". Just looking at how Aussies play it now might give them some clue. Tamim should try to stay for first ten overs while keeping a decent SR of 120+.So should Sakib, Riyad and Naeem when they bat. Other than that don't know who is that capable of succeeding in T20 for us. Maybe Ash, maybe Aftab. Prob not Mushfiq...

Bangladesh can be good in all format if they can get thier attitude right.
India and australia learn quickly from mistakes. Very quickly.
But bangladesh seldom learns and they learn it very slowly

Siddons is the guy who really dont care about 20/20. Why does'nt he tell them that they have 120 balls to play and not 60. Also dont these cricketers know this. I bet if they played against some of the associate teams now, they will be beaten, especially against Afghanistan.
The best they have played is in the 2007 WC, where they progressed, now, it will take them another 4 yrs before they do it. They get a free pass because they are full members, but if they had to fight to secure a place, they will play more sensibly like Afghanistan, who went out with a purpose.

how many T20's our players play a year?? not much at all. as a team our team probably never practices with playing T20 in mind unless we have one of those one off T20 game in a series. our player play domestic T20 league but the quality is not really good and i'm not too sure if they take that stuff seriously or not. but in general our players don't get enough exposure to T20 not even close to other international teams.

SL is in the best group. No challenge there at all. they will beat NZ and Zim hands down. Now, why could'nt BD be in a group like this to at least win one match.

Zim beat Australia in 2007 T20, so i wouldn't take anybody lightly. As for NZ if Ross Taylor and McCullum get going, they can easily chase down 200+ or score 200+.
