How can we make our boys play more competitive cricket?
It seems that our boys lack match preparedness. This is probably the most important reason for the repeated failures. We need to make our players play against stronger oppositions over a sustained period of time. Our 1 st-div structure does not provide the opportunity. It has not improved over the years. If we cannot improve our domestic competition we need to think about other schemes to nurture our "talents". For example, consider sending them to play for foreign clubs and counties even if this means that BCB has to subsidize their salaries. We need to find ways to push them into county cricket. Perhaps Klopak Ruling ( http://www.ecb.co.uk/ecb/publications/kolpak-ruling,499,BP.html ) does not apply to us but there must be ways we can make this happen. Zimbabwe has four to six players who are playing at the county level. We can do other things to improve the situation. We could try to participate in international tournaments more often. Play more A-level matches. Without these initiatives we will continue to remain a laughingstock and whipping boy of the world cricket. fficeffice" />

Do any of your players play county cricket? Or even Ranji (even though the standard of that isn't great either) or the South African first class competition. Heck, even playing in NZ's first class setup would help.

No, none of them do. Sakib apparently got an offer for Nottinghamshire, but he's refused it. I personally felt that was not the greatest decision.

The Ranji trophy can easily accomodate more teams. The present structure is like 8 and 7 teams in two Elite groups, and 6 & 6 in the two groups in the Plate (lower) division. You can put say, an A team in the Elite group and a U-19 in the Plate. The competition in the Elite groups are pretty tough with most of the teams of nearly same standard.

I dont think BCCI will let a BD teams walk in to it. If they dont get anything ($£$£$£$) out of these games

we need to make serious changes in our domestic format otherwise it is de-ja-vu all over again.
more first class matches...
reorganize the domestic format...
have a system where team gets promoted(like in England from division 2 to division 1) if they do good and higher pay, that way the players will be motivated to play harder and who knows, some of them will end up on the national squad...

BCCI does not make any money out of Ranji Trophy and is in fact quite generous about it. Its income is almost entirely from sponsorships and selling of the rights to international matches. The players are paid Rs.80K and 100K for 4&5 day matches and there are no entry fees for spectators. At the most, BCB will have to bear the transportation and accomodation expenses of the players, as the rest of the teams.

BCCI had invited the Bangladesh national team to participate in Duleep Trophy, the strongest first class tournament in India. But BCB, instead of sending the national team, sent a weaker team captained by Md Ashraful, and the team failed to compete against East Zone and Central Zone, losing to East zone by an innings within 2 1/2 days and surviving similar fate against Central Zone because Central Zone preferred batting practice instead of going for the win.
BCCI has not taken this slight lying down, and if BCCI has hardened its stance vis a vis BCB in the recent years, then the origin of that can be traced from this incident.

If the Kolpak XI is allowed to play as a team, they will probably win the county championship.

No hope for BD cricket about proper deals of allocating our national players to play abroad in competitive cricket.
Nothing will happen to BD cricket like other sports...

Go for the shock treatment. First of all, take the test status away so that they can no longer feel themselves as test players.

They will still be test players, unless ICC take away the official test label from all the tests we have played so far.

I think even playing 4 or 5-day matches with Zimbabwe will help. We could also play unnoficial tests with team comprising of recently retired players. There are plenty of those around after the recent retirement spree. Also, there are a few active players who are not playing for their national teams for political or moral stands.
