I used to think Beckham was a bit of a waste and only played for the likes of Madrid and Milan due to his celebrity status, but then I came to realise that he actually does bring value to whichever team he plays for. Otherwise he would not be in the England squad under a manager like Capello. His crossing is still as accurate as ever. He will be missed.

Beckham always had it coming. He will give you bits in the form of a nice set-piece or a nice cross, but they have happened far too sporadically for far too long.

Oh wait, he's out because of an injury eh? Tough luck, but still, I don't think England will miss much.

They kinda will. Other than Joe Cole, they dont have any other right winger good enough (unless you mean young who plays both wings).

Aaron Lennon I think is capable of doing the job. If not, Shaun Wright-Phillips, but yeah, he isn't there yet.

Lennon is a left winger. Along with Downing. And wright Phillips has completely lost himself since his late chelski days. Still needs a lot more improvement.

the right wingers, lennon, SWP, walcott..... all have pace and tricks, but not good final balls and never showed consistency.
the same goes for downing in left wing.
i think ashley young is better than all of them and he is two footed and can play on both wings. though he prefers left wing.
joe COle is not a proper winger. he is mainly an attacking midfelder, capable of playing in wide areas

I agree. Young is the only one. But I still think that since they dont have any others, they could use Young in left wing and J. Cole in Right.

Lennon is injured and a major doubt for the World Cup, SWP sucks against International full-backs and Walcott is way too inconsistent to start for a top International team which is why Beckham will be missed. Beckham raises the spirit of the team as soon as he comes on to the pitch and all the players look upto him which is why Capello has asked Beckham to accompany the team as a non-playing member.

Best team IMO.
---------------------------------Rooney-------Crouch---------------------------------
Gerrard-------------------------------Lampard-------------------------------Lennon
------------------------------------------Barry------------------------------------------
Cole-------------------Terry---------------------------Ferdinand-----------Johnson
------------------------------------------Hart------------------------------------------
If Cole isn't fit, we'll have Leighton Baines. If there's no Ferdinand, give Gerrard the armband and put in Lescott I suppose.

A win is a win, even against a side unable to defend set pieces.

Gerrard may play as a supporting forward for Rooney. So far Rooney has been unable to adjust with any of the other England strikers so Capello is trying to recreate the Man U atmosphere for Rooney where everyone plays around him. I think it's a smart move because Rooney is the only one who can take them further than the QFs and he needs to be firing at all costs.

It appears that Theo Walcott shall be missing the cut with the inclusion of Joe Cole.

Gotta say I'm surprised by Darren Bent's exclusion from the squad given the season he's had. I would have picked him over Heskey.
Also baffled to see Warnock get a place having appeared in only one England game to date. Not sure what to make of this squad to be honest.

Gotta agree. I thought Bent would be in there for sure. And all of a sudden where did Heskey emerge from? wtf....

I don't know why people are so surprised. I thought the strikers were pretty much certain. On top of that Heskey is a manager's player and is one of Cappello's favourite. Bent had no chance unless he lit the field alight against Japan which he didn't other than a couple of good runs.
Whether it is the right call or not is debatable. Bent is certainly much more of a goal threat than Heskey.
