No info yet about XI!
Bangladesh expected in Bulawayo on Thursday
Sports Reporter
THE Bangladesh national cricket team is expected in Bulawayo at midday tomorrow for a five one-day series against Zimbabwe.
Yesterday Queens Sports Club, the traditional cricket venue in Bulawayo was abuzz with activity with workmen putting final touches to the infrastructure while at the nets and pitch, players went about their business as usual.
The magnificent grandstands on the southern and northern ends got a facelift with a new paint coating leaving the place looking sparklingly clean. There was the smell of wet paint all around the facility with scores of men in overalls doing several different chores as they went about giving the facility a facelift it so badly needed.
Coach Walter Chawaguta for a long spell let the boys work in the nets perfecting their bowling and batting and most of them looked ready for the challenge that lies ahead in the next fortnight when Bulawayo will be under the spotlight.
It will be a series of pride at stake for the two lowly ranked teams in the ICC rankings. Either will be eager to clinch the series to improve on international standings.
Zimbabwe will be eager to show to the world that development efforts following the withdrawal of 15 top players four years ago, have been on course and promising to bear fruit soon.
Zimbabwe has a sprinkling of good young players with different good attributes that should make for a good team for the future.
Rarely does a tour come Bulawayo’s way and all the matches played here from day one to the last without Harare being considered.
The atmosphere at Queens Sports Club was workmanlike with administrators squeezed for time in their day’s schedule.
Administration staff from Zimbabwe Cricket in Harare has descended on the city as have selectors led by Alistair Campbell who later held a meeting attended by coach Chawaguta, captain Prosper Utseya and other selection committee members.
They were all there including provincial and franchise managers Stan Staddon, Joshua Paul and Victor Mhlanga.
All that was written on their faces was eagerness to have the games started and running smoothly. But all this hinges on good preparatory work.
Shingai Rhuhwaya, a senior communications manager with ZC, was yesterday optimistic that all would be ready come weekend. She said no stone would be left unturned in their quest to have a good series and expressed hope that all the good work would be translated into a win by the home side.
“We expect Bangladesh in the country on Thursday (tomorrow). They should be touching down at Joshua Mqabuko International Airport at 12.30pm.
“The Zimbabwe team is already here and they have been working out at Queens Sports Club. The umpires should be arriving on Friday. Guys down here have put a lot of time and effort in ensuring that Queens Sports Club will be in tip-top condition when the games start,” said Rhuhwaya.
There is so much excitement in the city about the series which will curtain-raise for the launch of franchise cricket.

Actually if you look long enough you can trace the fingers of the man's hand. Innovative indeed.

Seems that the boys will have no net session before the first warm up game. I cant believe that they will be arriving in Bulawayo Thursday midday, playing a warmup game on Friday and then the first ODI on Saturday. This is ridiculous and I am amazed that BCB did not take this long travel from the West Indies to Bulawayo into consideration and to delay the 1st ODI until Sunday instead of Saturday. These boys will be so fatigued that they will not have time to recover. The same thing happened when they travelled to Pakistan. In that first ODI, I noticed that they were rubbing their eyes and yawning. Did'nt Siddons even think about this? After all, he is the coach and should know what is best for his boys.
Huge disadvantage for BD, whereas the Zim team is at home and practising at the nets.
