Default Match Thread | NZ V ENG | Final | WC 2019

NZ won the toss and elected to bat.

Hopefully Guptill will come back to form and smash England.

Cricket does not feel like a global sport. So WC suddenly feels...পানসে

From CB:

All four matches at Lord's in World Cup 2019 have been won by team batting first with the winning margin increasing after every match.
- Pakistan beat SA by 49 runs
- Australia beat Eng by 64 runs
- Australia beat NZ by 86 runs
- Pakistan beat Ban by 94 runs

You can keep the BD-PAK match out of contention, we all saw what happened there,
BD was most lathergic and shamefully shambolic that day.

Or maybe just outclassed by Pak batting and then bowling

No other team sport other than soccer is really globally popular. Not rugby(same as cricket, not universally popular), Not Basketball(many might know basketball players but often doesn't follow nba, basketball 'WC's..lol), Not kabaddi(our nat sport), Not Hockey(same status in India as cricket is in UK) lol. These sports are often popular in certain countries but its not universall. You might argue Basketball's popularity in China or Rugbys in NZ or IRE, Hockey in Canada but its same story as Cricket in India then..right.

Only problem in Cricket is compared to other sports its unknown outside of its elite countries. People heard about Basketball, rugby even if they dont play. Thats because Cricket is unpopular sport in 'globalised'/elite part of the world aka western world. If crickets elite were not Ind,BD,Pak,Sri,Afg but Swi,Fra,Ger,US etc then cricket would have been more noisy in world stage. We south asians watch anything western and even follow too. But they dont..so cricket is ignored.

But rugby, basketball, etc are becoming increasingly popular around the world and regulatory organisation controlling the sport is in favour of expanding the game.

Japan has a rugby team consisting completely of native players, not kiwi, Aussie and South African expats. Wheras ICC has driven the Kenyan and Irish team in to the ground. Cricket has become extremely popular in countries like Nepal and PNG and we aren't willing to give them the opportunity to play bigger sides.

Our CWC model doesn't even allow all full members an opportunity to qualify.

Yeah Cricket is obviously falling behind its competitors. Already is in UK than 20 years back.

Last one was funny. Did you see his reactions, when he gave the wrong desicion he was nudging his head that he was damn sure. Then when it was overturned, he was doing the same damn thing. He seemed more disappointed than the batsman.
